Snowy White was a good guitarist but just didn't fit Lizzy - I remember seeing the band live during his tenure and thinking he lacked stage presence and just looked out of place.

Fastway were founded by Fast Eddie Clarke and Pete Way of UFO - Way left the band before they recorded anything but they retained the name!
Their debut album was really strong but they couldn't maintain the momentum...

It's a shame Paul Di'Anno never found any real solo success as his two albums with Iron Maiden were classics. "Heartuser" is pretty weak - anonymous and seemingly pitched at the American mainstream. He subsequently reverted to more appropriate material but seemed to spend much of his later career recording for Maiden tribute albums!

Former members of legendary rock bands entering the Rock chart in the same week: Snowy White was briefly part of Thin Lizzy, Fastway included "Fast" Eddie Clarke who had recently left Motorhead and Di'Anno is Paul Di'Anno who was lead singer with Iron Maiden from 1977-1981.

Yes, and that single is destined for a long run in these charts - I'm going to be typing a lot of asterisks...

Yes, I remember Gimme All Your Lovin and Sharp Dressed Man getting plenty of exposure on initial release but only seriously charting a year or so later. (Similar thing happened with the first two singles from Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA around the same time).

The material from Eliminator was certainly a departure from the group's traditional sound (and there's an ongoing debate around how much uncredited outside input there was!)

Still, ZZ Top have been around for half a century with no personnel changes and that just has to be a record...

ZZ Top still doing well on the Rock Chart without making a proper breakthrough on the national charts. I remember seeing the video for 'TV Dinners' on one of those Saturday morning childrens TV programmes that were broadcast in early 1984. All three singles released so far from the 'Eliminator' album had made the national Singles chart but all three had failed to get anywhere near the top 40. I wonder if the label felt at this point like it was time to give up on trying to break the band in the UK... the band had been trying for over a decade by this point to have a proper UK hit.

the period leading up to the mid 80s saw a trend for acts covering early 70s glam rock songs.

I quite liked the Rock Goddess cover of 'I Didn't Know I Loved You (Til I Saw You Rock n Roll)'.

No less than four Slade compositions in this chart....

My Oh My and Run Runaway were the bands last two Top Ten singles here (and their only two Top Forty singles in America....)

Quiet Riot's cover of Cum On Feel the Noize is still hanging on in there and Girlschool enter with Burning in the Heat:

    https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...6FORM%3DHDRSC3

Produced by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea, it's a cover of a flop Slade single from 1977 (which was titled Burning in the Heat of Love and got an airplay ban for risqué lyrics!)

Many excellent new entries this chart...

The mighty Manowar can boast guest narration by the late, great Orson Welles:

and the classy single from US Southern Rock band 38 Special single was so commercial - it could have been a huge national UK hit given enough airplay...
