29(25) Over Under Sideways Down - Yardbirds

No surprise to see Maiden straight in at Number One, but surprised Saxon entered so low - PatG was/is one of their classics.

Hellanbach were a good band too. This was their track from the EP.

    https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...6FORM%3DHDRSC3

They were often (wrongly) dismissed as Van Halen clones and referred to as "Halen-bach"!

^ I've done a million edits on the above post so i'll just add here that the dancer in that footage - according to YT comment - is actually Andrea Wonfor, co-producer of The Tube who passed away in 2004.

Looking on Discogs it seems Alien never actually released anything outside of compilations - this and one other song. All the acts were from Newcastle apart from Black Rose who were/are from Teesside . They were the most successful/prolific and from listening to them you can tell why. I think i may have met one of them on a course once, though i'm not sure. I remember somebody mentioning their name.

EDIT: this clip of them performing their earlier hit No Point Runnin' on Tyne Tees TV is rather curious - for the dancer inserted into the performance. I didn't know Tyne Tees ever did things like that. Too early for me to see it at the time.

Thanks for continuing to post these. Music Week began printing these charts (Top 30's) on 22 January 1983 and I had no idea where it came form (assuming it was the Official Rock and Metal chart). What this does mean is that these really are 'Official' charts and the current ones can be seen as a continuation of them. I need to do more research into the genre charts now

Did Sounds print these weekly? I ask as the British Library have almost all issues of Sounds from start to 1991. Might be a smaller size of chart some weeks but if printed weekly....

Well, now I come to think of it Pat Benatar (up to Number Two!) did have an earlier album title track also called In the Heat of the Night...

Stockton stakes a claim for Ridley, too as he lived here during his youth and Blade Runner's landscape was inspired by Stockton's industrial smog.
Back on topic: there were no more In The Heat Of The Night's then?

Just as Hawkwind's 1982 re-recording of Silver Machine leaves the chart, the re-release of the '72 "live" original (complete with overdubbed Lemmy vocals) crashes back in.

Ozzy finally deposes Coverdale & Co. from the top spot.

Incidentally "Here I Go Again" was the fifth different single with that title to chart which made it, I think I'm right in saying, the most re-used title ever for hit singles. At that point there'd only been one hit called "Crazy" and two called "Angel".

I've got Fist's "Back with a Vengeance" anthology on CD and there's a lot of good stuff on there. They were particularly strong on the lyrics front (check out "Name, Rank and Serial Number" or "You'll Never Get Me Up In One Of Those").

Not sure anyone really needed yet another cover of Dion's The Wanderer though - even though Fist's single is a lot better than Quo's version a couple of years later...

The inclusion of The Cockney Rejects isn't a mistake!

After establishing themselves as a good time punk act in the Sham 69 tradition the band decided a change in direction was warranted. They brought in UFOs Pete Way as producer for a generic hard rock album called The Wild Ones which included the Kinks cover listed above and a closing track imaginatively titled Heat of the Night!

Yes, that was a good compilation album - I remember I had it on cassette back in the day.

I've also got the double cd variation released in 2008 and indeed played it a few weeks ago. It includes about twenty extra tracks but deletes a few (like Split Enz and Wang Chung) presumably for not being American enough!

Although the single was a flop the track did eventually become reasonably well known in the UK as it was included on (and gave the title to) a 1984 compilation album called 'American Heartbeat'. I think the album sold upwards of 600,000
