  • Have a few singles by Terraplane, including this one at #27, but could never really get in to them. Only picked them up second hand, retrospectively, due to enjoying the first couple of Thunder albums so much.

To be fair it's a good remix - the original production was a tad on the sparse side.

I think that may be the 1978 UK single release which if I recall was a remix. Someone on YouTube also thinks it's a 1970s remix though they seem to think it's the 1977 US single version. I think the version I had, which was the one I mentioned a few weeks ago which was on the 12" version of 'Feels Like The First Time', was the original sparse version. But yes, it's a good remix, it makes the song sound punchier.

He actually played Wembley on the 4th of July that year. I was there and he opened with Independence Day solo, then straight into Born In The USA. Was reminiscing about that this morning, 35 years ago today, it's crazy!

Not the best quality video but some footage from the 4 July 1985 concert

Time is definitely flying by. On 13 July it will be 35 years since Live Aid. The concert that I never got to see beyond the first hour back in the day. I was in Spain on holiday that weekend, saw Status Quo start proceedings on the local TV station then whoever followed them and unbelievably the local TV station pulled away from the concert to show live bullfighting! Not a "sport" I would recommend watching. It was awful in fact but by the time Live Aid returned my mates and I were down on the beach then out on the town on the night so I missed most of Live Aid.

Bruce Springsteen was asked to play Live Aid by Bob Geldof (on the Philadelphia stage) but reluctantly refused (and regretted it afterwards) as he was coming off the back of a series of concerts not just in the UK but also in Europe. He then took a break before resuming the concerts in the USA the following month. But he did donate something to Live Aid: the stage that all the acts played on was Bruce's, from when he played Wembley on July 4 and 6 and that alone was probably worth several thousands of pounds.

                    • I've noticed that recent Rock / Metal charts have become more mainstream which largely reflects the fact that rock music in general was becoming more chart friendly in the mid 80s. I can't recall seeing so many records in the top 30 that were by acts who had made the national charts. Heart, of course, were yet to make the Gallup Singles chart. However the belated breakthrough of ZZ Top in the UK after many years of trying may have given Capitol some hope that Heart too could make a breakthrough. I have vague memories of them going back to 1975 but definitely remember 'Barracuda' being a US top 20 hit in 1977.

                      • The Cars is a ridiculous inclusion - even if you class their usual output as rock. That would mean also including Blondie, Pretenders, Costello and every other original new wave guitar act.

Plus - Chris Rea??? Love the local lad but WTF??

When do the real Kerrang! metal charts resume again? Can't believe they ever printed these charts. We're actually approaching the explosion of hair metal as well as thrash metal getting underway with Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth. So 86/87 should be much more genuine charts. By that point Number 1 magazine had the official weekly MRIB rock charts.

Well, hard to argue with that....

Too many questionable entries, especially at the top of the chart, blocking the mighty Dio (" somebody slammed the door....BANG!") from the top spot.

I've a mind to write in and complain....

                          Nope, too late now.

                            • Regarding pop records in the Metal Charts... Perhaps, they compiled those charts using the specialized Rock-oriented panel of shops, which in their turn, sold the records of some pop artists such as Phil Collins, the Cars, Bryan Adams... Compilers could use complete sales data without bothering to qualify the genre... Just a thought
I'm looking for "TOP POPS/MUSIC NOW" and "MERSEYBEAT / MUSIC ECHO" Charts to complete my 60's singles charts collection.

Was 'Creeping Death'; the first single by Metallica to make the Rock Chart? I can't recall (or have forgotten) seeing them in these charts before now.

When the single was in the charts the record was never off the jukebox. Hearing the song takes me right back to November and December 1985 when that pub was my local. Great pub, great song!

I like Brothers In Arms too but don't you think it owes a debt to Snowy White's Bird Of Paradise which was on these charts early '84?

I don't think I noticed the resemblance back in the day!

I'd not noticed it before (or if I had I've forgotten about it) but yes, thinking about it there is a resemblance. And I love 'Bird Of Paradise' too! That's another record that takes me back in time, this time to January 1984 and specifically snow - probably something to do with his name but January 1984, when the record was in the charts, was quite a snowy month in the north east and records like this remind me of that snow.
