      • That Lady In Red is getting closer...

Yes, let's make a funk song number one, shall we? PG is a great artist but rock/metal that is not.

At least this C De B single sounds like a Deep Purple classic...

              • In fact - here's The Chart Show's metal chart from 6th June 1986 - this was shortly before Number 1 magazine started including the same or similar charts

the vid is a reconstruction of the original footage - uploader states:

"Saw this at the BFI. The episode where the dispute with the BPI over payments to artists led to many chart show videos replaced with photographs on the specialist charts."

The Dio EP is not listed as such on this reconstruction. But The Chart Show would have usually done so. Note the odd discrepancy between both charts regarding The Cherry Bombz.

                • Dio's EP is often wrongly dismissed as a re-issue of Hungry For Heaven (on the Official Charts site and the old Guinness books).

Yes, odd about The Cherry Bombz….those two singles do seem to have been released in quick succession so I guess some compiler screwed up somewhere....

When we get to '87 I think I'll post both charts together for direct comparison...

                    • A week after the above chart Queen played Wembley Stadium. I was living just a few miles from Wembley at the time and was sat in my back garden listening to the sound of the concert drift over on the wind. I can still remember seeing the inflatable figures of the band floating in the air in the distance though of course at the time I didn't know what they actually were.

I never saw (or indeed, heard) Queen play live, though I've seen so many tribute acts in my time it almost feels as if I have....

From Kerrang's review of the concert:

….Freddie bathes and splashes and basks in the attention like a gold-plated terrapin. "It's a Kind of Magic" he sings as four giant blimp Meat Loaf-sized balloons, the four Queen figures from the new LP sleeve, are inflated and let go. Two at the front are immediately deflated and let go, a third bites the dust. And the fourth - it's Freddie's, would you believe! - hovers above the crowd and takes off into the stratosphere, the heavens, where people in white wings play "Bohemian Rhapsody" all eternity long.

It must have been Freddie's inflatable figure that I saw! I wonder where it ended up?

                                • Well, at least somebody had the right idea! Had i known when i posted the archive a few weeks ago. But the chart where he's top is the one captured in history by Google images.

It looks like the charts are reverting back to the old way anyway... I counted 24 actual rock/metal singles in that last chart. Good old Zodiac Mindwarp! (and The Love Reaction?)

Here's The Chart Show's heavy metal chart for 8th August 1986:

                                    • It Bites were actually a heavy rock band - as future singles and albums would demonstrate.

Yup, wasn't implying they didn't belong in the chart - just that their belated inclusion was odd!

They probably didn't think they qualified until they heard more from them! Very messy "make-it-up-as-you-go" charts at this moment.

                                                  Kerrang!

All these charts I'm posting are from K rather than S.

S only printed a Top 20 (although weekly, of course).

Still, K itself goes weekly in a year or so...
