i bought it. still think it's the best version - it is played in the clip below (before the clip cuts off)

I'm suprised that 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn' is number 1 for 1989. I would have expected a Guns N' Roses single to be top.

19 (-) Hangin' On The Telephone - Acid Reign
20 (-) Standing In The Shadows - Britny Fox

Bon Jovi hit top spot with the fifth (and best, IMO) single from New Jersey...

Acid Reign surprisingly cover.....The Nerves, although they include the snappy guitar break from Blondie's version.

Yes, the Rock Aid Armenia single was released rather belatedly and, despite charting, got somewhat lost in the Christmas rush.

Not the most imaginative choice of track to cover either....

The Uninvited Guest (one of the many AIDS-referencing songs around at the time) is a decent enough track but the band were never really the same post-Fish...

The Uninvited Guest, is the last thing I ever bought by Marillion and also the latest thing I've heard by them. As disappointed as I was with the departure of Fish, I did really enjoy UG and the previous single Hooks In You.

Like the Aerosmith track but it's not surprising it wasn't a hit here! The subject matter certainly wasn't what fans of 'Love In An Elevator' were expecting...
    1. I strongly doubt that either group were aware of each other! That song is their best by far.

    2. By that logic it shouldn't have been a hit in America, either - though America did have far more exposure to their varied material such as Dream On, of course. I think airplay was the factor in both countries. In the UK it lacked it, in America it literally helped it chart. The celebrated video had more exposure in the US, too. It's an amazing song - only bettered by the similarly themed Jane Says by Jane's Addiction.

ITV Chart Show Rock Chart (25th November 1989)

    another recreated video

credits the fact that Sun King was coupled with a reissued Edie (Ciao Baby) after it was a US hit.

I generally managed to resist the temptation to buy a single more than once - mind you, when I started buying records in the 70s you were very lucky even to get a picture sleeve!

Even when limited edition coloured vinyl releases started getting issued in the late 70s most releases would stick to one colour. I do remember Dr Feelgood's classic 'Milk and Alcohol' getting released on both milk (white, obviously!) and alcohol (brown) coloured vinyl. I tried to get both but was half disappointed/ half relieved (cash was short!) to only find the brown one....

Incidentally, wonder what Dr F felt about Motley Crue nicking their name?

Agree re Skid Row - strong album.

Kiss never really caught on here in their 70s heyday. Even their sell out/breakout single 'I Was Made For Lovin' You did nothing. Then in the late 80s they scored an out-of-nowhere Top Five hit with the so-so 'Crazy Crazy Nights'. Very odd.

Like the Aerosmith track but it's not surprising it wasn't a hit here! The subject matter certainly wasn't what fans of 'Love In An Elevator' were expecting...

I vividly recall buying numerous variations of Whitesnakes Fool For Loving 89 and Infinite Dreams, one bleak Saturday afternoon, from an HMV in Edinburgh and my mate just thinking I was mental, buying the same two songs 3 or 4 times! He might have had a point lol

Sun King, I think is great for a bit, but runs out of steam and just kind of goes on too long.

I thought Skid Rows eponymous debut was a great album and this was a great single.

I've never really listened to Kiss, just never been my thing, couldn't even tell you what a lot of their songs, such as this one, even sound like.

Not one of my more favourite Aerosmith tracks but not a bad one either.

The Almighty were a pretty good live band, although I had a bit of overkill with them in 91/92, as I seen them about 4 or 5 times, mainly not through choice, as they turned up as openers for Alice Cooper, Megadeth and Motorhead, that I can remember.

7 O' Clock, will never exactly be a fave of mine, but its probably my favourite by them.

Crue had some good tracks on Dr Feelgood, this being one of them, amongst some crap. Never been their biggest fan but I do enjoy the odd track of theirs, like Wildside or Shout At The Devil.

It was the end of an era for Status Quo as 'Not At All' became their first single (re-issues aside) to miss the top 40 since the early 1970s. They had a phenomenal run of 32 consecutive top 40 hits. However 'Not At All' sounds tired and uninspired even by the poor standards of late 80s Quo.

Sleeping My Day away was/is a great single. They were called Disneyland After Dark at first but quickly changed it to avoid a legal challenge. They are Danish and released an album in 2019.
