Crazy! I'm curious how this will affect the charts. Especially next week, this will probably have negative impact on all the christmas songs.

Here's what the official rules say:

I guess we have to wait for the next official charts until we can evaluate how big the impact will be..

What about the rest? Where does Don't Start Now and Physical rank?

Crazy that Dance Monkey and Roller are #2 and #3 this year when they were #2 and #3 last year too

          • I'm soooo looking forward to the rule change because I want songs that are actually popular to chart high again. And we all know that some of those rap songs are not popular throughout all demographics.

This year pretty much lacked a big hit album, didn't it? Guess it has to do with many artists holding back their releases because of Corona. 'Power Up' must have sold ~ 250k copies thus far, which is great after 3 weeks but not a major result for the best-selling album of the year.

                • The official Top 100 Singles YEC are released on ilovemusic.de: https://www.ilovemusic.de/top100hits2020/

They also have Top 100 HipHop and Dance charts, the order of the dance chart is different compared to the Top 100 singles chart, though, which is odd. The description on the bottom of the YEC pages also implies that they released a weekly Year-to-date chart during the year. Does anybody visit this site regularly and knows if this is true? They also have weekly Top 40 Dance charts and Hip Hop singles chart. On offiziellecharts.de they only release Top 20 Dance singles.

                  • Wait, airplay counts to the German charts from now on? That's interesting... and could be very nice for some artists. Lena comes to my mind as a good example, who has struggled to get a real hit on the singles charts lately due to streaming, but she has done really well on airplay.

Because of all the christmas songs it's hard to spot the influence on this weeks midweek chart. But it seems that it's not that big (or maybe not yet factored in?) Airplay #1 right now is "Diamonds" which is nowhere to be seen inside the Top 100 midweeks and Airplay #2 is "Let's Love" which is also nowhere to be seen despite quite okay streaming (#136 on Spotify today). I guess we have to compare the charts (Streaming/Singles/Airplay) in January to estimate the influence of Airplay.

Same for Nico Santos, Rea Garvey, Johannnes Oerding or Ava Max.

                        -----

Angelo Kelly & Family's 'Coming Home' just reached gold after charting for 16 weeks (No. 2 peak). What do you say now about Billie Eilish's album having reached platinum recently after charting for more than 80 weeks (No. 3 peak)?

                        • This chart week was shortened by 2 days because of christmas and is only covering data from December 18 to December 22. This means data for December 23 and December 24 will be counted for next weeks chart so christmas songs will have one more shot for the top positions any Mariah Carey could become #1 for 5 straight weeks this year.

That's huge ! I always feel like the German Albums Chart tends to have much more new entries than other national Albums Chart. How is that possible ?

I guess that is because of the revenue rule. New released albums often come with expensive boxes or as an expensive vinyl version. I guess both are most of the time bought by fans soon after release and that generates a lot of revenue. Plus new releases are probably also more expensive in general, at least compared to catalog albums. In other album charts, every box of vinyl sale would just count as one sale.

                                  • That makes sense, thanks! I know that another user once asked 'Has there has been a rule change or why are there so many new releases?' and I thought like 'I get the impression, but... it's really just been (another) busy sales week .'.

I don't know most of those quick No. 1 rap singles, but at least, I heard some of the artists' names. Who is 'KASIMIR1441 x badmómzjay' though and why is that song at No. 1 for 3 weeks already?

I am going to change the thread's title. There is not much traffic here, unfortunately to warrant a new topic.

"Blinding Lights" in its 63rd week back in the Top 10 and "Ohne Dich" still at number 1. For me it's hard to say something positive about the charts.

No. 2 is a Shanty song. Sounds like a random choice, but then again, the most successful German band of the last decade sings Shanty, so it kind of makes sense ;) .

Thanks for the info. I think that 'ABBA Gold' would be eligible for a new certification as well, as its last certification (5x platinum) was back in 2008 and it has spent around 160 weeks on the German Albums Top 100 since then (plus many more weeks just bubbling under positon 100).

                                                  • Agreed! Abba's record will be certified under higher standards because of its 90s release, but 160 weeks on the chart should make it eligible for an additional gold disc, which would lift it to No. 4 on the list.
On the other hand, Genesis' and Kelly Family's albums got certified for the last time back in the 90s, so they may be up for a recertification (and an additional gold disc in 25 years is not too hard to reach) as well.
