Some interesting facts about the records in the chart. The Creedence record is not about somebody being mad, but about the state of the world in 1970. The band didn't know that in England in meant someone was crackers, so they had to make that clear in interviews to the music press.
The Joni Mitchell record had on the B side her song Woodstock, which she wrote afterwards, though she wasn't there! It would make number one later in the year for Mathews Southern Comfort.
Ray Morgan cashed in on the fact the Beatles had not issued The Long and Winding Road in the UK. The American version of the single was imported in the UK due to the fact many people were listening to the USA charts on the Radio or could see them in all the Music Papers at the time. However stocks of the record only meant it could reach 44 in the Real Chart.
Fairweather was of course Andy Fairweather Low's band, famous for Amen Corner and also had solo hits.Education for anyone aged 12 to 16 has made a mess of the world!

The 27 record itself only credits D.B.M. & T. who were without Dave Dee who went solo, the band abbreviated their names to prevent confusion with the old line up, but it didn't work. It had been around the top 100 for six weeks by the time it entered the above countdown.
Bread's first hit had been around for five weeks, largely on the back of being in the USA charts at this point. It would reach number five lasting 18 weeks in the charts and selling over 700K. The follow up single "It Don't Matter To Me" will only make 74 and spend just six weeks in the chart.
Missing from the top 30 are The Who - Summertime Blues which was at 15, it only got to 38 on the BMRB chart.Education for anyone aged 12 to 16 has made a mess of the world!

Elvis is still totally dominant, nothing is dislodging him, yet, but Smokey Robinson hasn't challenged seriously .. yet !
Some other faves of mine on this chart haven't had a mention yet so will do now. Joni Mitchell's wonderful Big Yellow Taxi, Hotlegs, Chicago, the sublime Make It With You from Bread, and Mama handing out advice us teenagers paid no heed to from Three Dog Night.
I bought 'em all and blasted them out .. loud !To The Definitive Music Paper Chart
