  • If shunting all Disc records down one place, couldn't Sheb Wooley be at 21?

    • The following weeks chart has the note: Editor's Note: Buddy Holly's "Rave On" was accidentally omitted last week. He was sharing No. 8 spot.

The chart then shows the original number 9 as falling form 9 to 15, so they have basically just made 2 number 8's, and kept the rest the same.

      • I'll take there wasn't a BBC Chart on 9th August 1958 since the BBC column is blank?

Woz my printed out copy of the chart has the BBC positions included as I printed this after entering the BBC positions. I suspect I did not save the spreadsheet chart again afterwards thus losing them. Apologies, will fix now.

But surely this is wrong, the same mistake that NME made in the early weeks, and needs correcting - particularly when being fed into a composite chart.

Yeah, I had to make a best interest decision here, go with Lonnie's DISC mentioned chart solution with two records at #8 then 9 and so on or accept that all records below #8 had to drop one place.

I decided DISC's solution was unfair to all other three charts, as if any of those have two records tying a position then the next chart number is omitted, ie, 8, 8, and so then 10. and therefore this called for a bona fide correction to amend the error in DISC moving all records below #8 dropping a place in keeping with all other chart patterns.

I also did not include the pushed out Purple People Eater because if the chart did not contain the error when originally published then Purple would have dropped out anyway so could not be considered for a placement.

                • This of course makes the BBC chart wrong also as it would have been calculated using the original Disc chart. Buddy Holly would also be at 8 on the revised BBC chart with The Platters at 9 and Pat Boone at 10.

Yeah David, the BBC chart was based on the original chart with the error and was never subsequently corrected. Yet another example that the BBC didn't take their chart all that seriously. Mistakes in later years suffered the same fate.

                                  • It was in autumn 1958 that 'Jungle Rock' by Hank Mizell was first released and, reportedly, sold 120 copies.

                                        • Have fun Brian! Enjoy your holiday. I was in New York last week - the New York in North Tyneside, that is. It's just north of Wallsend and is only 6 miles from Newcastle. It's slightly smaller than the one in the US too, only 1,000 people live there...

PS, I've amended that re-entry David mentioned above.

So, here is the return of the UAC.
