there are 2 tracks on the album that are very indie rock in style. Brutal sounds like The Breeders, Veruca Salt, Elastica - if you didn't know who it was you would swear it was an actual indie rock act. Good 4 U is half pop, half rock. She is listed on Billboard's Rock and Alternative songs.

Those 2 songs are rock in the same way Pink, Avril, Kelly Clarkson, Ashlee Simpson were. What i was saying is that technically speaking those 2 songs of hers are heavier than Maneskin. So is Willow (Smith)'s song.
People are amazed about Maneskin charting but the pop acts the kids are already listening to are filling their ears with harder sounds.

OCC actually has an article about these three acts and the resurgence of a rock sound on the charts:

      18 June 2021
Are we witnessing the return of rock music to the Official Singles Chart?

Olivia Rodrigo's pop-punk Number 1 Good 4 U is ushering in a new wave of rock into the mainstream.

      By Rob Copsey
While the charts have been dominated by rap and pop in recent years, Olivia Rodrigo’s four-weeks-and-counting spell at Number 1 with Good 4 U on the Official Singles Chart appears to be ushering in a wave of rock-inspired hits to the Official Singles Chart.

Rodrigo's pop-punk hit is now the longest-reigning rock influenced chart-topper since 2003, when Evanescence spent four weeks at Number 1 with Bring Me To Life.

Two more entries in this week’s Top 40 are waving the flag for the genre: Italian rockers and Eurovision winners Måneskin climb into the Top 10 for the first time at 7 with I Wanna Be Your Slave, and Willow (as in Willow Smith) enters at Number 33 with pop-punk track Transparent Soul ft. Travis Barker. Originally released in April, the song has rocketed up the Top 100 over the past three weeks and is set to become Willow’s first Top 40 single in 10 years, since 2010's Number 2-peaking Whip My Hair.

      Måneskin

While the Official Albums Chart has continued to showcase the best that rock has to offer, it’s certainly more rare in recent years for these acts to find success in the Official Singles Chart.

The likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Yungblud and rapper-turned-pop-punk artist Machine Gun Kelly have enjoyed several stints in the Top 100 over recent months and years, but it’s a significant moment to see three guitar-driven songs in the Top 40 in 2021, two of which are firmly situated in the Top 10.

Discussing the recent trend, Martin Talbot, Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company said: "It has long been anticipated that rock would one day return to the Official Singles Chart, but few would have expected it to be pioneered by an ex-Disney Channel actress and a Eurovision winning act. But that’s what appears to be happening, thanks to Olivia Rodrigo and Italian Eurovision winners Maneskin."
      2000s pop-punk-rock artists inspiring a new generation

The pop-punk sound last had mainstream success between 2002-2009, led by acts such as Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Fall Out Boy and All American Rejects.

While Rodrigo is the latest artist to top the charts with a pop-punk song, a whole wave of up-and-coming acts appear to be inspired by the sound - including Filipino-British singer-songwriter Beabadoobee, Baby Queen, and Girl In Red.

      Olivia Rodrigo

On the Official UK Singles Chart, since 2000 there have been around 30 Number 1s that broadly fall under the pop-rock-punk sound. Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers topped the chart in 2000 with political anthem The Masses Against The Classes, while acts including Oasis, Limp Bizkit, and Stereophonics all landed chart-topping rock songs in the early 2000s.

The arrival of Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys, who scored two Number 1s between 2005-2006, brought a wave of indie-rock back to the upper echelons of the Top 40, including Razorlight's America and Kaiser Chief's Ruby.

The arrival of Good 4 U at the top of the Official Singles Chart ends a particularly long absence of pop-rock-punk Number 1s. The last was over a decade ago, when Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name upset the The X Factor's Christmas Number 1 bid. The same way The Veronicas first singles were powerpop/pop-punk ("4ever").
Brutal kinda gives it away on the vocal production.
Drawing parallels between Maneskin and the acts of the past now has become almost too funny for me - they remind me a bit of Manic Street Preachers' debut album era with that glam bravado and a cover overtaking their own singles in popularity terms (Beggin'/ Theme from M.A.S.H.), another comparison that comes to mind is Silverchair (talent contest led a handsome bunch to stardom whilst being devoid of their own ideas and following their influences).

        • I'm sure that OCC article has missed some other "rock-based" number ones as well. Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You was top in 2009.

Ed Sheeran’s new single Bad Habits is off to a strong start on this week’s Official Singles Chart, currently at Number 1 on the First Look.

The song, which picked up 1.5 million streams in its first 48 hours, could earn Ed his tenth chart-topper if it holds on until Friday (July 2).

              • I thought the OCC may have given paid-for some sales figures for Ed Sheeran, I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow for that.

The single is available to buy on CD though presumably it is a limited edition.

                          • Ed's easily got number 1 but it will be interesting to see if he can hold on next week.

it's #3 on Spotify behind Olivia and Ed

not impressed by Ed trying to copy The Weeknd with synth-based horror (see video). This so-called genius just following what's popular.

                              • In all musical accuracy Tony it's not the first time Ed's sought to copy someone else's work!! Various amendments to songwriting credits for some of his past hits bear this out.

Queen’s Greatest Hits eyes return to Number 1 for the first time in 40 years

A new 40th anniversary reissue could send the collection back to the top of the Official Albums Chart.

Queen’s Greatest Hits could return to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart this week following the release of a special 40th anniversary edition – for the first time since 1981.

The popular retrospective is currently leading the Official Chart Update by over 4,000 chart sales, with 86% of its sales so far on physical formats. The anniversary re-release includes a collector’s edition of the CD with an exclusive slipcase cover, and a limited edition cassette available in five different colours.

If it holds its place it will mark the album’s fifth total week at the top of the Official Albums Chart, with its first run at the top taking place over four consecutive weeks across November and December 1981.

Released in 1981, the collection is the best-selling album of all time in the UK – in 2019 Greatest Hits became the first album ever to sell 6,000,000 copies – and has spent a whopping 952 weeks in the Official Albums Chart to date.

Meanwhile, Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie teams up with French musician Jehnny Beth for Utopian Ashes which is set to debut at Number 4, while Laura Mvula’s third studio album Pink Noise is also eyeing up a Top 5 debut as it sits at Number 5 midweek. Laura will feature on this Wednesday’s Record Club livestream in association with Bowers & Wilkins to talk all about the 80s dance-channeling album.

Further down, The Reprise Albums (1968-1971), a four-CD boxset of Joni Mitchell’s first four albums, is at Number 12, while ghillie suit-wearing post-punk band Snapped Ankles start at Number 18 with their third studio album Forest Of Your Problems. Brighton indie six-piece The Go! Team are heading for their third UK Top 40 album with Get Up Sequences: Part One at 21.

English pop-rock band Lawson return with CMD Z (30), potentially their third Top 40 album, while Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ Angel Dream (33) – a reimagined version of their 1996 album Songs and Music from the Motion Picture “She’s The One” – is set for a Top 40 entry. If Angel Dream continues on course it will chart higher in the UK than the original 1996 collection, which peaked at 37.

Finally, Marina’s latest album Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land could re-enter this week’s Top 40, rebounding 26 places to Number 39.

Is this even more late orders being counted?

Football anthems 3 Lions, Vindaloo, World In Motion and more flood Official Chart ahead of England's Euro 2020 semi-final

                                          By Rob Copsey
Football anthems including 3 Lions, Vindaloo, and World In Motion are scaling the Official Singles Chart Top 100 as England prepare to take on Denmark in the Euro 2020 semi-final this Wednesday (July 7).

Following England's victory over Ukraine in last Saturday's quarter-finals, England fans are revving up their support by streaming and downloading classic and brand-new football anthems.

3 Lions by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds is leading the way at Number 6 in the latest Official Singles Chart Update, up 16 places from the previous week. If the track continues its momentum (particularly if England win their semi-final game), it could give the track a fifth stint at Number 1, extending its UK chart record.

Meanwhile, Vindaloo by collective Fat Les - a Number 2 hit in 1998 - is currently at Number 40 and heading for its first Top 40 entry since 2010, when it re-entered at Number 32 around the World Cup. Another golden oldie, New Order's chart-topping Official World Cup 1990 song World In Motion, sits at Number 57.

Further down, rap duo Krept & Konan are currently placed at Number 73 with Olé (We Are England ’21), their "unofficial official" England Euro 2020 song that midfielder Declan Rice has thrown his support behind. Finally, Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline, which has become a favourite to play after an England victory, is at Number 85.

Expect these to climb - and possibly more football songs to enter - the chart, should England win against Denmark in this week's semi-final.

                                            • Sales must be really low if Lawson and Go Team are top 30. What is a snapped ankle?

                                              • If #5 album is selling less than 2k, I think sales are in their critical form. Tony's on the Moon to see Marina still rising and yes she would be top 10 if not the delays, shame

                                                • Wouldn’t it be 3 Lions’ fourth stint at #1, not fifth as the article states?

Album sales are tiny but nice to see Jack hanging about and Laura top 5.

                                                  • Well if we're including 3 Lions 98 it would be fifth as there was a 5 week gap between its first two times at no.1 in 1996. (then 2018).
