Presumably we're potentially looking at one of those daft situations where a still-strong seller is suddenly removed from the published chart as three newer tracks all released close together outsell it probably for one week only - I am referring of course to Olivia Rodrigo's 'Drivers Licence'. It'll be back in short order and will probably stay charted for a tediously extended time, but it still jars with me that a clearly singular chart run gets interrupted temporarily by a totally arbitrary and artificial rule that says it can't appear if there are three or more tracks from that artist that were consumed more. It is especially noticeable with big hits.

Rather bad Midweek positions for the ESC tracks considering their hype is more likely to go down the further the week goes. I miss the times when there were tons of ESC entries high up on the charts everywhere the week after the contest.

Great news for James but i am not sure he can keep the momentum and stay in top 40 (fingers crossed) unless he gets a promo slot this week.

It's really difficult with streaming, most ESC entries are doing great on iTunes.

    Any updates for Duncan?

^ Very curious that Tix is as low as 99 when it was the second biggest song on iTunes on Sunday. Not getting streamed as much.

Eurovision winners Maneskin and UK entry James Newman on course for Official Singles Chart Top 40

More entries from Iceland, France and Ukraine could impact this Friday's Top 100.

    By Jack White
Eurovision Song Contest winners Måneskin and the United Kingdom's entrant James Newman are on course for places in this Friday's Official Singles Chart Top 40.

As of today's sales flash (May 25), Embers by UK representative James Newman is currently at Number 36 and on track to earn the highest-charting 2021 Eurovision song on the Official Chart. The track is also the third most downloaded song so far this week.

A Top 40 single would be the latest showing of support for James, who has said he will "focus on the positives" after coming last in the competition last Saturday (May 22) with zero points.
MORE: Where every UK Eurovision entry has charted

At the other end of the Eurovision leaderboard were Italian rock band Måneskin, who took home the trophy with a total of 524 points. Their winning song Zitti E Buoni is just behind James at the midweek mark at Number 37.

Further down in the Top 100, six more songs from the contest are heading for UK chart placements, the highest of which is Iceland's Daði Freyr who finished fourth with 10 Years. Number 49 currently, the song could still secure a Top 40 finish by Friday, and would be his second song to do so following Think About Things, his song intended for the cancelled 2020 competition that then went viral on TikTok.

France's Barbara Pravi - who finished second - is at 65 with Voila, while Finland's post-hardcore entrants Blind Channel are at 68 with Dark Side. Ukraine's Go_A are at 80 with electro-folk number Shum.

Finally, Cyprus' pop banger El Diablo from Elena Tagkrinou lands at Number 92, and Norway's representative Tix is at Number 99 with Fallen Angel.

Yes, it's like The Breeders and Veruca Salt (that will be Daniel Nigro - her co-writer/producer who was once in an an alt band)! Sadly, the album is mainly in the style of the first two singles. Hence why on this occasion listeners have gone off track 1 quicker than fans usually do.

Last week's No.2, the American singer's Good 4 U (32,667 sales) has raced into an early lead ahead of BTS' Butter (21,588 sales), while Tion Wayne & Russ Millions' reigning chart-topper Body (21,491 sales) falls to No.3,

Kiss Me More (13,917 sales) by Doja Cat ft. Sza is up 4-3 and Rodrigo's Deja Vu (13,528 sales) ascends 11-5. Meanwhile, The Galantis/David Guetta/Little Mix collaboration Heartbreak Anthem (9,210 sales) debuts at No.8. Gary Numan's Intruder leads the chasing pack on 15,530 sales, followed by Twenty One Pilots' Scaled And Icy (No.3, 10,889 sales) at No.3, All I Know So Far - Setlist (No.4, 8,438 sales) by Pink and the reissued Loveless (6,080 sales) by My Bloody Valentine, which completes an all-new Top 5.

Olivia Rodrigo set to score Official Chart Double with debut album SOUR

Plus Gary Numan, Twenty One Pilots and Pink are set to claim big Top 5 entries.

    By Helen Ainsley
Olivia Rodrigo is set to go straight to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with her debut album SOUR.

Leading today’s Official Albums Chart Update (May 24), SOUR is already 7,500 chart sales ahead of its closest competition, and the most-streamed album of the week so far.

If the album stays on track Olivia could also be set to score the coveted Official Chart Double, as her latest single from the collection, Good 4 U, sits at Number 1 on the latest Official Singles Chart update.

At Number 2 at the midweek point, Gary Numan’s 22nd studio album Intruder could become his seventh total Top 5 album, including Tubeway Army’s 1979 Number 1 Replicas. Intruder is currently the biggest physical release of the week so far. Gary will join this week’s Record Club with Bowers & Wilkins livestream to talk all about the collection.

Elsewhere in this all-new midweek Top 5, Twenty One Pilots are on track for their third Top 10 with Scaled And Icy (3) while Pink’s concert film companion album All I Know So far: Setlist (4) is the most downloaded release of the week so far. The star’s 2010 Greatest Hits… So Far!!! Could also make a Top 40 return, currently up 28 places at 39.
MORE: The Official Top 40 biggest albums of 2021 so far

Rounding off the Top 5 is My Bloody Valentine, with their 1991 album Loveless (5) thanks to a full catalogue reissue which dropped on CD and vinyl on May 21. The band’s other two studio albums also feature in the midweek Top 10; their 1988 debut Isn’t Anything (8) and 2013’s MBV (10).

Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys starts at Number 7 with latest solo effort Seeking New Gods, while American pop-rock band Waterparks’ fourth album Greatest Hits could land a Top 20 debut at Number 14.

Finally, Bristol-based musician Penfriend – real name Laura Kidd – is at Number 36 at the halfway point with her first album under the moniker, Exotic Monsters.

I know... this mixed up bettween singles and albums is stupid. Album tracks that aren't hits and none that never heard the album even heard the songs became TOP 10 Hits when they are less known than almost any other TOP 40 Hit that didn't hit the TOP 10. It's insane and not logical as those songs are everything but hits. Album tracks shouldn't qualify as singles.

    Music Week:

The Official Charts Midweek Sales Flash is in, and Olivia Rodrigo has surged to No.2 in the singles chart.

Rodrigo's latest cut Good 4 U is all but assured of being the week's highest new entry, with sales of 26,422, but is a distant second to Tion Wayne & Russ Millions' reigning No.1 Body, which has sold a further 42,606.

Kiss Me More by Doja Cat ft. Sza is close behind at No.3 on 25,414 sales, followed by Montero (Call Me By Your Name), which drops 2-4 on sales of 24,719 and Save Your Tears (22,167 sales) by The Weeknd, which consolidates at No.5.

Meanwhile, Paul Weller maintains a healthy lead at the top of the albums chart. Fat Pop's 23,787 sales puts it almost 10,000 copies clear of nearest challenger The Off-Season (14,134 sales) by J Cole. Last week's No.1 Life By Misadventure (10,892 sales) by Rag'N'Bone Man is at No.3 and the Top 5 is rounded off by two new entries: Delta Kream (No.4, 6,709 sales) by the Black Keys and Daddy's Home (No.5, 6,684 sales) by St. Vincent.

Fat Pop has moved 22,073 copies so far to put Weller clear of the chasing pack, which is led by J Cole's The Off-Season (9,239 sales). However, with strong streaming sales of 8,546 so far, The Off-Season could yet become a serious contender to the top spot.

Elsewhere, Rag'N'Bone Man's Life By Misadventure (7,933 sales) dips 3-1, while St Vincent's Daddy's Home (5,845 sales) and Delta Kream (5,816 sales) by the Black Keys are new entries at No.4 and No.5 respectively.

Tion Wayne and Russ Millions are racing towards another week at the singles summit. Body has shifted 24,075 units to sit almost 10,000 copies ahead of Lil Nas X's Montero (Call Me By Your Name), which holds at No.2 with sales of 14,141. Doja Cat ft. Sza's Kiss Me More is just 20 sales behind at No.3.

Anywhere Away From Here (11,888 sales) by Rag'N'Bone Man and Pink advances 9-6 in the wake of their BRIT Awards duet, while another BRITs 2021 performer, Olivia Rodrigo, is the highest new entry at No.8 with Good 4 U (11,099 sales).

Paul Weller chasing sixth Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with Fat Pop

    J. Cole, St. Vincent, and the Black Keys are heading for high debuts in this week's Top 10.

Paul Weller is leading the race for Number 1 on this week’s Official Albums Chart with Fat Pop.

The Modfather’s 16th studio album has notched up the most CD and vinyl sales of the week so far and holds an overall advantage of almost 13,000 chart sales over his closest competition.

Should The Jam vocalist hold onto his momentum, Fat Pop will mark Weller’s sixth UK Number 1 album, and second in less than 12 months following historic 2020 chart-topper On Sunset.

Hot on his heels at Number 2 is J. Cole with The Off-Season; The North Carolinian rapper’s sixth record is far and beyond the most streamed album so far this week, and is on track to become his third Top 10 entry, and joint-highest charting, matching the peak of 2018’s KOD.

Rag’n’Bone Man slips to Number 3 with the current Number 1 album Life By Misadventure, but has racked up the most downloads across the last 72 hours of the sales window.

Funk album Daddy’s Home from GRAMMY-winning US artist St. Vincent is at 4 and on course to achieve her best chart placement ever in the UK, and rounding out the Top 5 at 5 are the Black Keys with their covers album Delta Kream.

One more new release is in line for a Top 10 finish and that’s The Ides of March, the seventh solo album from Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy, which is Number 7 midweek.

English actor and musician Matt Berry is eyeing his highest charting album to date with psychedelic record The Blue Elephant (11), Nicki Minaj’s 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty is orbiting the Top 20 following its first-time streaming release with three extra tracks (13), Jorja Smith is back with her new ‘project’ Be Right Back (14), and David Gray is looking to pick up an 11th Top 40 entry with his Irish-inspired album Skellig (15).

A belated 50th anniversary edition of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s Top 5 album Deja Vu occupies Number 20, two spots ahead of Mercury Prize-nominated jazz group Sons of Kemet with Black To The Future at Number 22.

Paul & Linda McCartney’s chart-topping 1971 album Ram could charge back into the Top 40 for the first time since January 1972 following a vinyl reissue (27), and finally, electronic duo Morcheeba could claim their first Top 40 entry since 2005 with 10th record Blackest Blue (28).

Weller's album is actually called Fat Pop (Volume 1) but on digital listings the subtitle is excluded. David Gray is the physical release of an earlier digital album.
