really strong debut for LG, I think 3rd biggest this year (still amazes me how Lana and Foos did 40K in first weeks), I hope they can make 35K at the end of the week

The Official Charts Company Midweek Sales Flash is in and London Grammar are the runaway leaders at the top of the albums chart.

The group recently starred on our digital cover, as Hannah Reid told Music Week her music industry story. Californian Soil has sold 24,675 copies so far, with 20,501 from physical, 2,991 from downloads and 1,183 from streams. AJ Tracey’s second full-length, Flu Game, is at No.2 with 5,725 sales, ahead of The Offspring’s Let The Bad Times Roll (4,893 sales). Imelda May’s 11 Past The Hour (3,747 sales) and Greta Van Fleet’s The Battle At Garden’s Gate (3,471 sales) complete a Top 5 full of new entries.

Lil Nas X is getting comfortable at the top of the singles chart, posting 20,278 sales for Montero (Call Me By Your Name) so far this week. Justin Bieber’s Peaches (15,785 sales) and Riton’s Friday (14,355 sales) are in the Top 3, ahead of Joel Corry, Raye and David Guetta’s Bed (14,620 sales) and Nathan Evans’ Wellerman (13,514 sales).

So it looks as though the Paul McCartney remix/rework project McCartney III Imagined has been excluded as a compilation - as i thought it would be. The vinyl and digital formats are out with the CD coming later.
Though the album at 10 is surely also a Various Artists thing? The first Slime Language did get to 88 in 2018, though. It's Young Stoner Life that is the label and the first listed "artist" credit online but OCC only have room for Stoner Life - the OCC report even shortens the label to YSL!

As noted above, While She Sleeps only have their digital figures counted with the physicals putting them at #4, according to them. Or maybe some physicals are distributed by other means?

Their album is at 23, presumably on downloads and streams only.

The album at number ten looks questionable and may be removed midweek.

London Grammar ploughing their way to Number 1 with new album Californian Soil

AJ Tracey, Imelda May, The Offspring and Greta Van Fleet complete an all-new midweek Top 5.

    By Jack White
London Grammar are sowing the seeds to success with new album Californian Soil, which is heading for Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.

The alternative trio’s third studio album is racing ahead of the competition on today (April 19)’s Official Chart Update, outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined. Californian Soil has notched up the most physical and download sales so far this week.

Californian Soil will mark London Grammar’s second UK Number 1 album should its trajectory continue, following 2017’s chart-topping Truth Is A Beautiful Thing. The group’s self-titled debut reached Number 2 in 2013.
MORE: Official Top 40 biggest albums of 2021 so far

The most-streamed album of the week so far is AJ Tracey’s second studio album Flu Game, currently at Number 2. Flu Game features three Top 5 singles and arrives two years after Tracey’s self-titled debut which reached Number 3.

Rock group The Offspring’s first new album in nine years Let The Bad Times Roll is at Number 3 midweek, on course to become their highest-charting album ever in the UK, surpassing the Number 10 placing of 1998’s Americana.

Rounding out an all-new Top 5 at the halfway point in the week are Irish soul/rock singer Imelda May’s sixth record 11 Past The Hour (4) and blues rockers Greta Van Fleet and their second LP The Battle at Garden’s Gate (5).
MORE: The UK's Official Top 40 biggest songs of 2021 so far

A box set reissue of Jethro Tull’s 1980 album A could send the album into the Top 10 for the first time at 8, while YSL Records compilation album Slime Language 2 credited to artist Young Thug, Slimer Life and Gunna’s is at 10.

Death metallers Cannibal Corpse could score their first UK Top 40 album with Violence Unimagined at Number 18, while the same could be said for prog supergroup Liquid Tension Experiment with LTE3 at Number 20.

Sheffield metalcore five-piece While She Sleeps are on the cusp of a fifth Top 40 album with Sleeps Society at 23, while pioneering producer/DJ Goldie is at 25 with the 25th Anniversary edition of his 1995 album Timeless.

Three more albums are also vying for a slot in this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 40 – Tom Petty rarities album Finding Wildflowers (36), Passione by British-Italian tenor Freddie De Tommaso (37) and Welsh rockers Holding Absence’s second album The Greatest Mistake Of My Life (39).

Great result for Ella Henderson after many thought she'd left it too late from her first album. I'm not mad on the new song, I find the lyrics a bit corny, but it's good to see my Grimsby girl back in the top 10.

    12 April 2021
Taylor Swift heading for seventh UK Number 1 album with Fearless (Taylor’s Version)

Plus two DMX albums are on course for this week's Top 10 following his death.

    By Jack White
The first of Taylor Swift’s rerecorded studio albums Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is on course for Number 1 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart.

Fearless (Taylor’s Version) has a lead of 11,000 chart sales on today’s Official Chart Update (April 12), with the most paid-for sales and album streams so far this week.

The original 2008 version of Fearless was Taylor’s breakthrough release in the UK, peaking at Number 5, as well as Number 1 on the Official Country Albums Chart.
MORE: Official Top 40 biggest albums of 2021 so far

Should Taylor continue her momentum, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) will become her third UK Number 1 album in the space of just over eight months following her two surprise-released lockdown albums in 2020 Folklore and Evermore. Her previous four Number 1 albums were Red (2012), 1989 (2014), Reputation (2017), and Lover (2019).

A seventh Number 1 album would see Taylor vault into third place among female artists with the most UK chart-topping albums behind Madonna (12) and Kylie Minogue (8).

Following its vinyl release, Ariana Grande’s fourth Number 1 album Positions is on track to return to the Top 40 at 2, while French composer and producer Jean-Michel Jarre is heading for his highest-charting album since 1988 with Amazonia at 4.
MORE: The UK's Official Top 40 biggest songs of 2021 so far

Following his death aged 50 last Friday after suffering a heart attack, two greatest hits collections from US rapper DMX could enter the Top 10 for the first time; The Best Of is at at Number 6, while The Definition of X: The Pick of the Litter is at Number 10.

American hip hop collective Brockhampton are in pursuit of a third Top 20 placement with their sixth album Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine (20), while London indie rock band Flyte are flying towards their first Top 40 album with their second record This Is Really Going To Hurt (25).

Also on the cusp of entering this week’s Top 40 are American rock band Cheap Trick with In Another World at 34, and Bournemouth prog group Big Big Train, with a reissue of their 2009 album The Underfall Yard at 37.
