I was expecting Mogwai to be much lower than number 12 so it's a pleasant surprise to see the album is still performing relatively well.

Well Jessie Ware has re-entered albums at least (at 90). She's continuously strong on physical sales and great on downloads but those streams elude her.

    01 March 2021
Maximo Park lead all-new Top 7 in race for Number 1 on the UK's Official Albums Chart with Nature Always Wins

Alice Cooper, Architects, Digga D and Lucy Spraggan are also battling for Number 1.

    By Jack White
Maximo Park are on track for their first UK Number 1 album with their seventh record Nature Always Wins, which is leading an all-new Top 7 on today (Mar. 1)’s Official Chart Update.

The Newcastle upon Tyne band are just shy of 1,500 copies ahead of Number 2 in an extremely tight race – just 2,500 chart sales separate the entire Top 5 at the midweek mark.

Nature Always Wins is on course to be Maximo Park’s first Top 10 album in seven years, and their highest charting since 2007’s Our Earthly Pleasures peaked at Number 2 on the Official Albums Chart. Look back at where all of Maximo Park’s albums and singles charted in the UK.

Maximo Park will discuss the album on the next episode of The Record Club in association with Bowers & Wilkins on Facebook Live, March 10. The Record Club is a collaborative livestream project between Record Store Day, Official Charts and National Album Day, supporting physical retailers and new releases. Sign up here.

Alice Cooper is currently at Number 2 with Detroit Stories, the bestselling album on CD of the week so far. The rock legend’s first new studio album for four years could mark his best UK chart position since 1989’s Trash peaked at Number 2.

Metalcore group Architects could claim their first UK Top 10 album with For Those Who Wish To Exist at 3, the most downloaded album across this past weekend. London rapper Digga D’s second mixtape Made in the Pyrex is the most-streamed collection of the week so far at 4, and Buxton singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan could scoop her first Top 5 album with Choices at 5.

The White Stripes’ Greatest Hits marches in at Number 6, while Neil Young and Crazy Horse live album Way Down In The Rust Bucket is a new entry at Number 7. The reissue of PJ Harvey’s Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea, lands at Number 8 midweek along with Demos - its accompanying collection of unreleased demos and rarities at Number 19; the album originally peaked at Number 23 in 2000.

US singer and multi-instrumentalist Julien Baker is heading for her first charting album in the UK with Little Oblivions (14), plus US rockers The Black Crowes could pick up their first Top 40 entry since 2001 with Shake Your Money Maker (18).

Finally, more prospective new entries come from New York pop singer Madison Beer with her debut album Life Support (24), and Dutch metal band Epica with Omega (25).

Still not sorted the JLS cock-up out I see?! I know this problem seems to have originated in the incorrect uploading of the track by streaming services and so wasn't the OCC's mess initially, but surely by now they'd have someone on the case fixing this entry. Why do I get the feeling that JLS will still be listed even on Friday's final countdown?!

    22 February 2021
Mogwai lead the race for Official Albums Chart Number 1 with As The Love Continues

Ghetts, Whitesnake, The Reytons and Ricky Warwick are also gunning for new entries in this week's Top 40.
    By Jack White
Mogwai are leading an incredibly close race for Number 1 on this week’s Official Albums Chart with As The Love Continues.

The Scottish post-rock group are Number 1 on today’s Official Chart Update – though just 1,800 chart sales currently separate the Top 3.

Should Mogwai’s tenth studio album continue its momentum, it would be their first to top the Official Albums Chart, and third consecutive Top 10 studio album, following 2014’s Rave Tapes and 2017’s Every Country’s Sun. See where all of Mogwai’s songs and albums have charted in the UK.
MORE: Official Top 40 biggest albums of 2020

Close behind Mogwai are US rock legends Foo Fighters, whose recent chart-topper Medicine At Midnight is continuing to perform well and could pick up a second non-consecutive week at the summit. Rounding out the midweek Top 3 is British rapper Ghetts; his third studio album Conflict of Interest is on track to be his highest charting yet, currently at Number 3.

Ariana Grande’s former chart-topper Positions is on course to return to the Top 5 for the first time since November following the release of its deluxe edition, currently at Number 5 and the most-streamed record of the week so far.

Two new entries vying for a Top 10 slot are Whitesnake compilation The Blues Album (9), and Yorkshire indie band The Reytons’ fourth EP May Seriously Harm You and Others Around You (10).
MORE: The Official Top 40 best-selling vinyl albums of 2020

Thin Lizzy and Black Star Riders vocalist Ricky Warwick could score his first solo Top 40 album with When Life Was Hard and Fast at 15, while British producer and singer SG Lewis is on track for the Top 20 at 19 with his debut album Times.

Editors lead vocalist Tom Smith and former Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows reunite as Smith & Burrows for their second collaborative album Only Smith & Burrows Is Good Enough (21), and Nottingham alternative rock band Tindersticks could claim their first Top 40 album since 1999 with Distractions (32).

Finally, Ronan Keating’s latest album Twenty Twenty could return to the Top 40 at Number 35 following the release of his new single with Shania Twain, Forever And Ever, Amen.

And in the interests of completeness, there is of course a video streaming chart available on the OCC site, which Tony kindly reminds us about when he posts the new charts: https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...reaming-chart/

Makes so much more sense to me to take sales out of the official chart, have it streaming only, create a new sales chart for downloads and physicals (it might even already exist I don’t know) and introduce a heritage chart where every song over one year old goes. No ACR, no “sales equivalents”, just measure everything in its own metrics.
There are already two streaming only charts too. One is (I believe) total streams

and the other chart-equivalent audio streams.

I know! It's what someone on BuzzJack said was the initial reason for the jump.

(although the heritage chart is a good idea that Billboard uses)

There's also a weekly sales chart which is downloads + physicals. Basically it's the chart compiled under pre July 2014 rules.

    https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...s-sales-chart/

It has a fair number of oldies in it these days which will be due to current tracks not having a great deal of paid-for sales. Also, as there are so few physical sales, the sales chart is more or less the same as the Downloads chart that SholasBoy has mentioned

    https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...wnloads-chart/

The physical singles sales chart - a continuation of the chart compiled under pre April 2005 rules - often has a number of random re-entries or big climbers. This week a number of Christmas singles are doing well suggesting that some online store must be having a clear out of Christmas stock. Sales required for the lower reaches of the chart are usually in single or low double figures.

There is a weekly download chart, don't think it includes physicals, but it makes for much more varied results.
