    06 April 2021
The Snuts take on Demi Lovato for Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart

Dry Cleaning, David Bowie and Lil Tjay are also looking to make Top 10 appearances.

    By Jack White
The Snuts' debut album W.L. is battling Demi Lovato's seventh studio record Dancing With The Devil... The Art of Starting Over for Number 1 on this week's Official Albums Chart.

On today (April 6)'s post-Bank Holiday Official Chart Update, the Scottish rising stars are leading the pack, racking up the most vinyl and download sales of the week so far.

Should The Snuts hold onto their lead, W.L. will become the first debut album by a Scottish band to top the Official Albums Chart in 14 years. The View were the last to do so in January 2007 with Hats Off to the Buskers.

The Snuts have taken to social media to drum up support for their album; their post features frontman Jack Cochrane photoshopped as William Wallace in Braveheart, with the band saying they are ready to "embark in the biggest fight of our lives."

Just 1,100 sales behind at Number 2 is US powerhouse vocalist Lovato, on track for her highest-charting album to date in the UK with Dancing With The Devil; her previous best was logged in 2019 with Tell Me You Love Me which peaked at Number 5.

Dancing With The Devil... has the most CD sales of the week so far, with four exclusive cover sleeve deluxe editions available exclusively in the UK.

Completing an all-new Top 3 at the halfway mark are South London post-punk outfit Dry Cleaning with their debut album New Long Leg.

The next in a series of David Bowie live albums, David Bowie at The Kit Kat Klub (Live New York 99), opens at 6, while The Fratellis' sixth album Half Drunk Under a Full Moon is at 7 - potentially the Scottish rockers' fourth Top 10 record.

The most-streamed new release of the week so far is Destined 2 Win by US rapper Lil Tjay, currently placed at Number 9.

Roxy Music's Bryan Ferry could claim his 22nd Top 40 album with Live at the Royal Albert Hall 2020 at 12, while Canadian rock group Godspeed You! Black Emperor are on track for a third Top 40 record with G_d's Pee at State's End!.

Finally, amid the UK's coronavirus vaccine rollout, The Vaccines' 2011 debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? has been timely reissued on pink vinyl, and is in line for a Top 40 return at Number 33.

Rather humourous that Godspeed You! are charting well in the same week that the new Glasvegas album Godspeed flops (it's digital only until the end of the month).

Nathan Evans’ Wellerman ft. 220 Kid and Billen Ted is taking on Lil Nas X’s Montero (Call Me By Your Name) for this week’s Number 1 single following the latter’s tight Number 1 debut.

Wellerman is in the lead on today’s First Look but it’s set to be another close race, with the two tracks just 500 chart sales apart after 48 hours.

Riton x Nightcrawlers’ Friday ft. Mufasa & Hypeman stands just another 700 chart sales behind at Number 3, giving the track an opportunity to take the lead over the next few days.

Joel Corry, Raye and David Guetta could earn a place in this week’s Top 5, as BED climbs two places to Number 5. If it holds on it will become Joel’s third Top 5 hit, Raye’s second and David Guetta’s 14th.

Ava Max flies up six with My Head & My Heart, setting course for a new peak at Number 13, and finally, Leave The Door Open by Silk Sonic rises six places to Number 17, potentially landing the Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak project a new peak by Friday’s chart.

Don't know why they are crediting "(Taylor's Version)" for that when it's a previously unreleased song - the actual subtitle is (From The Vault). I just left the title without any subtitle and OCC also excluded Maren Morris from the site update, oddly.

Ben Howard aiming for second UK Number 1 album with Collections From The Whiteout

Evanescence are also on track for their highest-charting album in 10 years.

    By Jack White
Ben Howard leads the race for Number 1 on this week’s Official Albums Chart with Collections From The Whiteout.

The BRIT Award winning singer-songwriter’s fourth studio album is outperforming its two closest rivals combined as of today’s Official Chart Update after racking up the most physical sales over the weekend.

Ben Howard has previously scored one UK Number 1 album with 2014’s I Forget Where We Were, while his 2011 debut Every Kingdom and 2018 album Noonday Dream both peaked at Number 4.
MORE: The UK's Official Top 40 biggest albums of 2020

One year on from its release, Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia is eyeing up a 33rd week in the Top 10 at Number 2, while US rock band Evanescence are in at Number 3 midweek with The Bitter Truth. The Amy Lee-fronted group are in line for their highest-charting album in a decade and have the most album downloads so far this week.

Featuring members of Iron Maiden and The Winery Dogs, duo of Adrian Smith and Richie Kotzen unite as Smith/Kotzen; their self-titled debut album of blues rock music opens at Number 5.

Classical, jazz and electronica collide for Promises, a one-track collection split into nine parts from Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders and the London Syphomy Orchestra (6), while former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow is in pursuit of his first solo Top 40 album in ten years with Stargazer (7).

Also eyeing up a place in this week’s Top 10 are Assembly, a new compilation of The Clash frontman Joe Strummer’s biggest hits at 8, and Neil Young live album Young Shakespeare at 9.

London rockers The Dust Coda are heading for their first Top 40 album with Mojo Skyline at Number 11, while Christian rapper NF is at Number 14 with Clouds. First Aid Kit are also Top 20 bound with Who By Fire: Live Tribute to Leonard Cohen at Number 18.

The Cure’s 1983 compilation album Japanese Whispers could return to the Top 40 following a vinyl picture disc reissue (27), and Floridian rapper Rod Wave may secure his first Official Albums Chart entry with second album SoulFly (40).
