    15 February 2021
Slowthai out in front for this week’s Number 1 album with Tyron

Pale Waves, The Pretty Reckless and David Bowie are also heading for this week's Top 10.

    By Jack White
Slowthai is heading for his first UK Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with new record Tyron.

The rapper from Northampton’s second studio album is leading the way on today’s Official Chart Update, ahead of the pack by over 4,000 chart sales. So far this week, Tyron is the most streamed and physically purchased album. Real name Tyron Kaymone Frampton, Slowthai’s debut album Nothing Great About Britain peaked at Number 9 in May 2019.

Manchester indie rock band Pale Waves are Slowthai’s closest competition at Number 2 with Who Am I?, also their second album. Their 2018 debut My Mind Makes Noises topped out at Number 8.

Last week’s Number 1 Medicine at Midnight from Foo Fighters slips to 3, while fellow rock group The Pretty Reckless are in at 4 midweek with their fourth album Death by Rock and Roll, the most downloaded album over the past weekend. David Bowie live album Look At The Moon! is a new entry at Number 5.

Following the release of its Moonlight Edition, Dua Lipa’s former Number 1 album Future Nostalgia rises five places to Number 6. Just outside of the Top 10 at Number 11 is Taylor Swift’s Evermore, which scales the chart after the release of her new re-recorded single Love Story (Taylor’s Version).
MORE: The Official Top 40 best-selling vinyl albums of 2020

English hard rock band Inglorious could score a second UK Top 40 album with We Will Ride (20), while the 50th anniversary edition of Stage Fright from Canadian-American rock group The Band is on track to re-enter the Top 40 (21); Stage Fright peaked at Number 15 back in 1970.

Last week marked the ninth anniversary of Whitney Houston’s death, which could see her greatest hits The Ultimate Collection return to the Top 40 at Number 30.

Sia’s new album Music, which also acts as the soundtrack to the movie of the same name in which she makes her directorial debut, could sneak into the Top 40 at 34, and Headie One’s former Number 1 album Edna is set to make a return following the release of a deluxe edition at 35.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Monday Update on previous page.

Sales not in yet but i'll check later.

#14 album is actually a longer title. They've done 2 versions of their new album (actually 3 including a blu-ray). But they are different recordings so can't be combined.

The overall album title is The Absolute Universe but each edition has a subtitle. The album at 14 is the extended variation. The one at 66 is the abridged variation.
I have them on the schedule as:

Transatlantic - The Absolute Universe: Forevermore
Transatlantic - The Absolute Universe: The Breath Of Life

Another complicated new release is this combined set by Afrobeat father and son.

Femi Kuti / Made Kuti - Legacy + (Stop The Hate / For(e)ward) [combined set]

Presumably this will be classed as a compilation by OCC but that's the most popular version, outselling the individual digital only sets.

Jessie Ware's album track (with negligible sales for the new single edit) only at 97 but the album as high as 11. Highlights the difference between the two charts right there when both were top 3 on iTunes (obviously there are physicals for the album, too).

Ha-ha yes it's all gone a bit Sade-esque this week! Arlo Parks' success is I'm guessing largely thanks to saturation support from Radio 1 - Annie Mac in particular has - to put it crudely - been w*nking over Parks for months on her so-called Future Sounds show, gushing about what a wonderful new talent she thinks she is and playing her songs constantly, to the point where any positive critique I used to hear (and to an extent agree with) about her now just feels like horrible over-hyping. Mind you; stand AP or Celeste up against some of these god-awful drill/trap artists that said DJ and station also seem to fawn over on a half-hourly basis and their relative musicality and vocal quality instantly become more starkly apparent. IMHO, better these two ladies at the summit of our albums chart than the likes of Fredo and Pop Smoke.

Kinda reminds me of the stuff floating around in the mid-00s, Corinne/Katie/Dido/Norah etc. I like both Celeste and Arlo but in small doses as listening to their albums in one go is a bit snoozy.
