Really disappointing result for Coldplay, after hitting 100K on debut, they are not selling much after.

Hope Dua can survive inside top 5 as Queen is closing the gap.

I think this is how YE top 10 will look like, as I don't see any more huge debuts this year

Abba GOLD sold around 800,000 in 1992, 1993 and Jan 1994. So 5,199,000 + 800,000 = 6,000,000

BPI certified 20 times Platinum.

Not sure, but I can see only Adele ending this year with sales above 600k. But who knows, maybe ABBA and Ed will get there as well.

There are a couple of things to unpack and separate here:

1. Streaming cannibalises physical sales.

2. Sales derived from streaming are made up numbers. Literally made up. A group of people sat around a table and decided that X streams == 1 sale...but there is no equivalence to be drawn easily. The fact that the UK equates 1000 streams to 1 sale should tell you instantly that ease with an abacus trumps accuracy.

3. "Sales" are in the toilet but industry revenue is increasing. How do you square that? The choice of music is vast but no longer focused on the top end of the charts.

The music industry is fine.

There is plenty of money sloshing about but the distribution may be off.

Look at the chart in this link for inflation adjusted revenue over time. It's for the US but the UK will basically be the same (Actually it will look more healthy but a quick Google search did not bring up a nice graphic )

Going by the UK OCC Charts: 10th - 16th December 2021 thread, Top 10: = (3-2, 36,067 sales) by Ed Sheeran, Voyage (4-3, 25,920 sales) by ABBA, but your update for Week 49, both albums by increased 26K from Week 48, so "=" is 10K short?

According to the Music Week Albums Report by Alan Jones in the UK OCC Charts: 17th - 23rd December 2021 thread,
Ed Sheeran surpassed ABBA in Week 50. Adele's "30" is first with 505,488 units, ''='' is third (361,942 sales) and Voyage is fourth (359,449 sales) plus it appears Vidcapper short-changed "=" by around 10k sales for Week 49, going by UK official charts sales it should have been around 326K, (not 316K) since "=" sold around 10K more than ABBA's "Voyager" in Week 49, but both albums were updated by around 26K sales. Week 48. "=" 290,000 + Week 49. 36,067 = 326,067 . ABBA 305,800 + 25,920 = 331,720.
