If I'm as cynical as i appear !!! and If sales are as low as they appear to create a top 100 ( especially in Albums ) Surely there would have to be in the lower reaches of the chart to have tied sales/positions.. so why isn't this happening ? Which if true and no sales figures coming forward, adds to the actual credibility of the charts ?

Unusually for Blathmaid, she actually said what was at number 18 while not playing it - but, of course, she didn't mention any of the others at all.

Today's bank holiday top 100 on RTE Gold, starting in fifteen minutes from now at 11am and running until 6pm, would seem to be the Top 100 Singalong Songs - which sounds like more of an excuse than ever for them just to pick their own favourites that seem to fit that description, not based in any particular way on sales or streaming success. But it still might well provide better background listening for the bank holiday than many other radio stations are offering!

One thing I had to play back and make sure I had heard correctly was the introduction to one of the songs higher up the chart. The presenter started talking about a song which would get everyone going at paries in the run up to Christmas - I was wondering "are they going to play Mariah Carey or something festive?" but no! He was talking about Africa by Toto.

At the moment, there are soooooo many best of albums charting in Ireland. It seems obvious to me that people listen to a bunch of Abba songs for example, and that those songs get counted together towards one album for chart purposes, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the 'Gold' album is very popular at the moment. Imo, they should only count the streams of the least popular song for album purposes.

That is how streaming works with EVERY chart. Why do you think Britney Spears TUC is charting in the UK ? Or that The Fame or Teenage Dream have been charting.

Imo, albums like e.g. 'The Fame' shouldn't chart high because people mass stream 'Poker Face' as in that case, 'Poker Face' is popular, not 'The Fame'. I think it's fair to say that if even the least popular album track (What is that? 'Money Honey' or something?) is still doing well, then yes, the album is popular, too.

Except streaming is factored into German album charts and has been since 2016 or something

Your beloved Ed Sheeran is only charting his album in the top 20 now beacuse of streaming also, it is the same for everyone these days lol and obviously all the tracks wont have the same streams.
