Just a few requests for scans from the 40s in Billboard

June 15, 1946 I believe it is page 144 The Most Played Juke Box Records are completed on that page.

December 11, 1948 Page 28 Juke Box Records

December 18, 1948 Either page 37 or 38 the Record Possibilities Billboard Picks page

December 17, 1949 On American Radio History pages 24 and 26 have the very bottom of the pages missing, do you have better copies.

Thanks as always for your help

There you go. A lot I already had, and the 1949 missing I hadn't noticed - so took the time to update my own collection as well.

      • Thanks so much.

The only other one I had a query for from the 40s was August 23, 1947. It says that the Records most played on air are continued on page 132 I believe all the pages are there on ARH but can't see that on page 132 or any other page for that matter. Am I being stupid or did they just miss it out.

        Cheers

The issue on ARH has 160 pages and 160 pages exist in the ProQuest archive. I can't see it on page 132 or around that, so suspect not printed.

Thanks for all that info. This is what I'm missing from 1934-1937.

        March 27, 1937,
Missing Sheet Music but I don't believe it was published as all pages seem available at American Radio History.

        July 31, 1937, 5 Best Sellers (page 89 I think)
October 17, 1936, Ten Best Records (page 75 I think)
November 09, 1935, 10 Best Records (In weekly music notes section usual page number in the 60's)
October 19, 1935, Missing everything (Network Song Census, Sheet Music Leaders & 10 Best Sellers)
August 24, 1935, Missing Network Song Census (Usually about page 10)
February 16, 1935 to April 06, 1935 Inclusive. Missing Network Song Census (Usually about page 10)
February 23, 1935, Missing sheet music leaders as well as NSC
        December 08, 1934, Missing SML & NSC
        December 01, 1934, Missing NSC
        November 10, 1934, Missing SML & NSC
        September 29, 1934, Missing SML & NSC
        September 08, 1934, Missing SML & NSC
July 07, 1934, Missing SML & NSC (If there)

Similar information for NSC (Most Played on Air) is available in Variety magazine. I went through 1934 and they use same radio stations but the tracking week is slightly different. The only one I couldn't find for 1934 was December 04, 1934. They also start including Sheet Music best sellers, sporadically to start with but then weekly.

Any updates on the above would be appreciated but only when you have time.

        Thanks again

Just a quick one, the 1st page of Top LPs (P62) for May 18, 1968 and for that matter the 2nd page of Top LPs (P84) for Nov 02, 1968 have the coloured ink missing. Do you have a scan for those dates that are complete or was it a publishing problem at the time. Thanks as always

                      • Thank you so much kingofskifflefor posting these Billboard pages - it has saved me a lot of time and money! I read that the Feb 7, 1903 issue had a sheet music top sellers ("great success") listed under a "Music and Musicians" column. I'm not sure if that's true but was wondering if you could get the page if it does (not sure of the page but in the older issues I have the columns are either on p2-3 and p18-21). Thanks.

both showing the correct printing. They are printed correctly in Joel's 1965-69 Albums book as well, so must just be that copy that has the problem.

                                    I'm just missing a few from 1954-1957

                                    December 18, 1954 Both R&B charts (around page 36ish)

February 04, 1956 Best Sellers chart (Page 32?)

March 10, 1956 Country & R&B (P57& P59, There are torn bits on ARH ones)

                                    September 15, 1956 Top 100 (P52)

August 12, 1957 Missing R&B & Country Charts (Struggling with a page number for these)

October 21, 1957 It's a really poor copy with pages missing and rips and tears galore, Is it easier to do a section, say page 36 to page 63. If not, I'll come back to that one.

Thanks for all your help as always

                                    • Thanks for requesting and posting these missing charts. It has helped me fill in some blanks in my own collection. I have a couple of other "missings" prior to 1957 that I am hoping someone could provide (and apologies if these have been previously posted/accounted for and I just missed then)...

December 11, 1948 -- The R&B Best Sellers and Juke Box charts... I think they are both on p. 27, as it is the only missing page in the charts section.
                                      (p. 28 was previously posted with the Pop Juke Box charts)

March 17, 1951 -- The Pop Disc Jockey chart... again, I think it is on either p. 91 or 92; those are the only missing pages in the charts section.

April 7, 1951 -- The Country Disc Jockey chart... not sure of a page number since it appears the online PDFs contain all of the pages in the charts section; might have not been published.

                                      Many thanks in advance!

                                      • Maybe the omission of the Country Disc Jockey chart on April 7th, 1951 is related to what Billboard printed in The Country and Western Disc Jockey Pick on April 14th, 1951: "Owing to unforeseen difficulties in teletype transmission, there is no information available this week on the picks by Country & Western Disk Jockeys." Wikipedia's article for the #1s on this chart also uses April 14th as a source for the #1 on April 7th.

But the good news is. The C&W DJ chart of April 14th contains 9 records with a LW position: 1-8 and 10. Then on the C&W DJ chart of April 21st "Chew Tobacco Rag" by Zeb Turner enters at #9. However, while the LW position is empty, the WtD reads "2", so it's a re-entry. The aformentioned song was still "Coming Up" on the charts dated March 24th and March 31st. Which to me suggests that the debut week of Turner's "Chew Tobacco Rag" must have been the missing #9 on April 7th.

Maybe a published chart would've had tied positions, or the WtD of "2" was a typo, but I choose to believe that we just got 'lucky' by the missing song turning up in a later chart.

The above are pages I’d downloaded ages ago to fill the collection I wanted. Let me know if your still missing anything after that I’ll go back and get them.

December 11, 1948 -- The R&B Best Sellers and Juke Box charts... I think they are both on p. 27, as it is the only missing page in the charts section.

                                          (p. 28 was previously posted with the Pop Juke Box charts)

Page 27 is not those, it’s the albums sets.
