Gayle surging towards her first UK Number 1 single with abcdefu on Official Singles Chart
Thanks to a post-Christmas lull, many tracks are lifting up the Official Singles Chart to new peaks - and Gayle's viral hit abcdefu is leading the pack.
By George Griffiths
17 year-old rising US pop star Gayle is heading towards her first UK Number 1 single, as break-up anthem abcdefu surges up the Official Singles Chart. As Christmas songs vacate the chart this week, abcdefu which rose to popularity on TikTok looks set to gain heavily, it first entered the chart seven weeks ago before peaking at Number 2 in December. The Texas-born singer is currently up 13 places to Number 1 on tonight’s Official Chart First Look. Find out more about Gayle here.
Meanwhile, a lot of tracks this week experience massive jumps in position in the post-Christmas lull. DJ Acraze eyes his first UK Top 10 entry with Do It To It featuring girlband Cherish, which is currently up 41 places to Number 2, it previously peaked at Number 13. Also coming up close behind, ArrDee and Sam Fender could reach new peaks with Flowers (Say My Name) and Seventeen Going Under currently tracking for the Number 3 and Number 4 positions respectively.
Last week’s chart-topper Ed Sheeran could vault back in to the Top 10 with three tracks this Friday; former Number 1s Shivers and Bad Habits are at Numbers 5 and 7, while new track Peru with Fireboy DML is on the rise, up 18 to a new peak of Number 10.

Outside the Top 10, Joel Corry and Mabel could reach a new peak with I Wish eyeing a jump to Number 11. The track previously peaked at Number 19.
A viral track from Disney’s latest film Encanto, We Don’t Talk About Bruno, could be this week’s biggest climber, tracking to ascend 54 places to Number 12. The track is performed by the film’s cast including Caroline Gaitan, Mauro Catillo, reggaeton artist Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrerro and Stephanie Beatriz.
Another track from the film - Surface Pressure, performed by actress Jessica Darrow - is also set to rise 47 places to Number 18.
Imagine Dragons and JID also look set to reach a new peak with their single Enemy, taken from League of Legends. It could rise 36 spots to Number 17. And finally, Justin Bieber’s Ghost could rise 42 spots to a new peak of Number 19, it previously peaked at Number 29.
The Official Singles Chart Top 100 is revealed on OfficialCharts.com every Friday at 5.45pm. Follow the Top 40 countdown live on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart show with Scott Mills.

He's already retired once and there's seemingly no-one to take his place this time. Even with a reset Overpass is still 'selling' less than Shivers and Bad Habits on ACR! Not sure they're going to make a 'success' out of that as a 3rd single.....
Adele (and/or her record company) are probably aiming for the longest no.1 by a solo UK female record and that's why they asked for a reset. I don't think it'd have increased by 25% in streaming compared to last week; though of course it is compared to the overall market so that might make it so.... Though I suspect they would've had to ask anyway- especially if the OCC have a moratorium on resets based on the market this week.....
Also she 'lost' the album no.1 so if she can get back the single at least she has one no.1 this week...! We know the sales of Overpass and the next 9 best-selling tracks (all starred out) makeup the streaming side for Ed... while Oh my God! and the remaining tracks count for Adele..Last edited by braindeadpj; Wed January 5, 2022, 17:40.

They must want to give it a push during early this year so it can end up being a bigger single everywhere.
With iTunes, YouTube and Streaming it's almost impossible for Global Artists to release singles/songs in diferent dates on diferent countries as they used to do before with physical singles.
Also if the album is still TOP 2 on UK charts with just this single why "burn" the next single so early?
What will the official second single from this album be? Does anyone knows?

Buzzjack suggests that Shivers would be no.1 if it was reset. Based on the Tuesday update with Shivers at 5 and Easy on Me at 9, that is probably true (though they must be fairly close as its maximum possible 'sales' would be 27.4k (assuming records 4-8 are selling almost the same.......).

He would be allowed to have the full TOP 20 with 20 songs if at max 3 were from the same album.
That's the rule and they didn't change it.
It was created to avoid that new albums that would strream high as hell didn't chart all tracks inside the charts (like still happens on US Billboard Hot 100).Last edited by MadNuno; Wed January 5, 2022, 21:35.
