Bastille look set to score third UK Number 1 album with Give Me The Future

Dan Smith and co are leading charge of all-new midweek Official Albums Chart Top 5
    By George Griffiths
Give Me The Future by Bastille could become Dan Smith and co.’s third UK Number 1 album this week, as it leads an all-new midweek Top 5.

More than doubling the weekend chart sales of its closest competition, Bastille’s fourth studio album is flying ahead on physical copies. The band previously hit Number 1 with debut album Bad Blood (2014) and Wild World (2016). View Bastille’s Official Charts history in full here.

In the Number 2 position, The Divine Comedy’s greatest hits collection Charmed Life could become Neil Hannon’s fifth UK Top 10 record, as well as his highest-charting album ever on the UK Official Chart. Read more about The Divine Comedy’s greatest hits record here.

Cambridgeshire rock band Black Country, New Road are also looking to gain their highest UK chart peak to date with second album Ants From Up There on course to debut at Number 3, while nu-metal outfit Korn’s 14th album Requiem eyes a new entry of Number 4.
MORE: ArrDee and Aitch waging War for highest new entry on Official Singles Chart

Rounding off the midweek Top 5 is US indie-rock singer-songwriter Mitski with her sixth record Laurel Hell (5). Released after a four year hiatus, the collection could become her first ever UK Top 10.

Carpe Diem, the 23rd studio album by English heavy metal band Saxon, could be our final new entry in the Top 10, currently pacing for a Number 7 debut.

Elsewhere, following the release of a special-edition blue vinyl, Dave’s influential debut album Psychodrama vaults 54 slots up to Number 13. It previously peaked at Number 1 in 2019, also winning that year’s Hyundai Mercury Prize.

Following its 45th anniversary on February 4, Fleetwood Mac’s iconic album Rumours flies 15 places midweek to Number 14.

At Number 17 in the Official Albums Chart Update, Billy Bragg’s 2021 album The Million Things That Never Happened gets a boost from its vinyl release, on its way to out-peaking its original Number 44 result from last year. Welsh musician Cate Le Bon could earn her first UK Top 40 entry this week with new album Pompeii (24), while James Blunt’s The Stars Beneath My Feet (2004-2021) rockets 37 places to Number 27 following his Wembley Arena gig on February 5.

Finally, noted DJ Pete Tong’s collaborative Pete Tong + Friends: Ibiza Classics is heading for a Number 30 debut. If it holds on it will mark Pete Tong’s fourth Top 40 album.

The Official Albums Chart is revealed every Friday at 5.45pm on OfficialCharts.com and on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills from 4pm.

Don Broco heading for first UK Number 1 album with Amazing Things following physical release

The Bedford band's fourth album was originally released last year, but thanks to its physical release is pulling ahead of the competition.
    By George Griffiths
Don Broco are heading towards their first ever UK Number 1 album this Friday with Amazing Things.

The Bedford rock band originally released their fourth album in October 2021 but following its release on vinyl, CD and cassette, Amazing Things could fly all the way to Number 1 this week, having not reached the Top 40 on its original release.

Don Broco have picked up two Top 10 albums so far, Automatic (Number 6) and Technology (Number 5) plus their debut album Priorities peaked at Number 25. See Don Broco’s Official Chart history in full here.

Liverpudlian singer-songwriter Jamie Webster could also be up for a career-best chart position this week, with his second album Moments currently tracking to debut at Number 2. His previous album, We Get By peaked at Number 6 and was the first-ever Number 1 on the Official Folk Albums Chart.
MORE: We Don't Talk About Bruno heading for third week at Number 1 on Official Singles Chart

Blackpool rockers Jethro Tull are heading for their seventh UK Top 10 album and first since 1972 this week. The Zealot Gene, the band’s 22nd studio album and first of original material since 1999, is eyeing up Number 4.

There could be three further new entries in the Top 10 this Friday too. Llanelli band Scarlet Rebels could earn their first-ever Top 40 entry with See Through Blue (6), former Mansun frontman Paul Draper’s second album Cult Leader Tactics (8) could be his first solo Top 10, and Big Big Train’s Welcome To The Planet (10) could become their highest-charting album to date.

Meanwhile outside the Top 10, indie icon Jamie T’s influential debut album Panic Prevention is heading for Number 11 following a 15th anniversary re-release. It originally peaked at Number 4 in 2007.

Eels’ 14th studio album Extreme Witchcraft is cruising towards a Number 12 debut, while Scottish indie-pop duo Saint Phnx’s debut major label EP Happy Place could become their first Official Albums Chart entry at Number 13.

Elsewhere, The Longest Johns could score their first Top 40 album with Smoke & Oakum at Number 32 and Woman To Woman: Live In Concert, a live album from singer-songwriters Judie Tzuke, Beverly Craven and Julia Fordham is heading for a new entry at Number 35. It would be Tzuke’s eighth, Craven’s third and Fordham’s fifth Top 40 album, respectively.

And finally, US jazz singer Lady Blackbird’s debut album Black Acid Soul is tracking to become a new entry at Number 36.

The Official Albums Chart is revealed every Friday at 5.45pm on OfficialCharts.com and on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills from 4pm.

'Where Are You Now' by Lost Frequencies & Calum Scott is mysteriously missing from the top 20. As it can't have moved to ACR it's either taken an unexpected drop from the top 20 or there's been a chart compilation error...

We Don't Talk About Bruno overtakes Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran's Peru as the race for this week's Number 1 single heats up

Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran's path to Number 1 this Friday has been complicated by the popularity of the Encanto cast's breakthrough hit.
    By George Griffiths
We Don't Talk About Bruno by the Encanto Cast today overtakes Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran's link-up Peru as the race for Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart heats up.

In Sunday's Official Charts First Look, it seemed that Peru would become Fireboy DML's breakthrough UK Number 1 and Ed's 14th. Indeed, some huge names have been throwing their support behind the track online, from supermodel Naomi Campbell to SBTV's Jamal Edwards. However, the duo's path to the top has been complicated by the reigning chart hit from Disney's Encanto.

As it stands, We Don't Talk About Bruno leapfrogs ahead of Peru, it's currently in the lead by 5,000 chart sales as we enter the final 48 hours the race. While Peru is the UK's best seller of the week so far, the popular Disney smash powers ahead on streaming platforms.

Last week, We Don't Talk About Bruno became the first original Disney song to hit Number 1 in the UK, as well as the first Number 1 single for credited cast members Rhenzy Feliz, Adassa, Stephanie Beatriz, Mauro Castillo, Diane Guerrero, and Carolina Gaitan.

The cut-off point for chart sales to count towards the race is 11.59pm tomorrow (Thursday January 27) - so it's still all to play for.
MORE: Disney's Top 100 most-streamed songs in the UK

Encanto is also looking to take up three places in the Top 10 this week; as it stands, Jessica Darrow's ode to eldest sibling anxiety Surface Pressure is down to reach a new peak of Number 4, while The Family Madrigal could rise seven spots to a new peak of Number 8.

Lost Frequencies and Calum Scott are also on track to achieve their second Top 10 single each with the slow-burning Where Are You Now currently jumping to Number 8 after months of ascent.

Late, great rock legend Meat Loaf is also looking to re-enter the Official Singles Chart with his iconic hit Bat Out Of Hell, currently at Number 17. It originally peaked at Number 8.

Can Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran reclaim their early lead? The Official Singles Chart Top 100 is published every Friday at 5.45pm on OfficialCharts.com, with the Top 40 counted down on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills from 4pm.

Yard Act close the gap on Years & Years as this week's Official Albums Chart race heats up

It's all to play for as we count down to Friday's Official Albums Chart Number 1.
    By George Griffiths
This week's race for Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart is heating up, as the gap between Years & Years and Yard Act narrows.

Yesterday, the Official Chart Update revealed that Years & Years' Night Call was on track to give Olly Alexander his second UK Number 1 album, but now British newcomers Yard Act are inching ever closer to Number 1 with their debut album The Overload.

As of today (25 January), fewer than 400 chart sales separate Olly from the Leeds post-punk outfit. If Yard Act do manage to ascend to Number 1 this Friday, they would be the first act this year to open at Number 1 with their debut album.

Yard Act's chart sales are leaning heavily towards physical sales, with 93% of their current total made up of CDs, vinyl and cassette copies. While The Overload is outselling Night Call on physical formats, Night Call is performing strongly across digital download and streaming.
MORE: Years & Years' Top 20 biggest songs in the UK

Plus, a third act still cannot be counted out: Meat Loaf. Following the news of the rock legend's sad death last week aged 74, an influx of his most famous works have begun to re-enter the Official Albums Chart.

As it currently stands, Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell is looking to re-enter the Official Albums Chart at Number 3. It originally peaked at Number 9 during its original release window, so this would represent a new chart peak.

Meat Loaf's greatest hits collection, Hits Out Of Hell, is at Number 4 today, and is so far the most-streamed album of the week in the UK.

The Official Albums Chart is revealed every Friday at 5.45pm on OfficialCharts.com and on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills from 4pm.

So Bruno is already back to no.1 Shows how top heavy the prior chart was with the signed CDs swinging it for Peru as we hypothesized. Unfortunately Meatloaf is dropping, though good showing on albums so far.....(though of course stock is said to be low in the stores so may be primarily streaming?)

If Meat Loaf sings in at least 50% of the songs it's not removed but credited to him (hopefully will finally get a TOP 40 peak)..
I think that was a mistake. Similar compilations by the likes of Michael Jackson and Diana Ross (Love Songs) have been removed from the main chart.

There are other bizarre things on the extended top 100 on the site. Dead Ringer is classed as Dead Ringer / Bat Out Of Hell.
Bat Out Of Hell II is listed twice!

Right, Elvis Presley scored 17 while alive (as did The Beatles) but also another 4 posthumous #01 singles put him ahead with 21.

Most #01 singles in UK Single Charts

    Elvis Presley - 21
    Beatles - 17
    Cliff Richard - 14
    Westlife - 14
    Madonna - 13
    Ed Sheeran - 13

    https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...-chart__23765/

Elvis also have 17 #02 singles but technically only 9 of his songs peaked at #02 (and while he was alive).
The other 8 were re-issues from the same versions of the songs and singles that previously peaked #01. So 17 singles but only 9 songs.

The artists with Most #02 songs (and singles) are Madonna with 12 songs followed by Kylie Minogue (that had 7 #01 songs) with 11 songs at #02.

Ed Sheeran already have 5 songs that peaked #02 as well but have been more lucky as he usually hits the Top.
