    • So the standard version of Midnight has 13 tracks but the 3AM version has 20 so how are they calculating the streaming? Are they just using the standard 13 tracks so streams of track 1 and 2 are averaged to that of 3-13 or are they including the top 3 bonus tracks from the 3AM version? This will push the average down to some extent as tracks 14-16 (the top 3 from the 3AM version) are going to be less streamed as they are not on the standard album?

Also since The Car only has 10 tracks, Midnight automatically gets up to 30% more streams (and possibly 60% more if they include 16 tracks). Of course the benefit is likely to be less than that as not all tracks are likely to be streamed the same.

The chart rule about qualifying tracks when there is both a standard version and deluxe version is:

In all cases, qualifying tracks will be those from any registered album format track listing. In the event where a release has both standard and deluxe versions, the track listings will be aggregated and de-duplicated to create the qualifying track listing.
The top 2 tracks will then be "neutralised" to the level of the average of the next 14 highest streamed tracks.

'The Car' potentially loses out on streams as it has less tracks to attract overall album streaming sales. On the other hand the top 2 tracks could potentially be "neutralised" to a lesser extent. Again, it depends how quick streaming totals drop away once you get to the 11th most streamed track on Taylor's album.

I do hate that word "neutralised". However it's what appears in the OCC Album Chart Rules book.

        • Thanks Robbie.
I agree neutralized is not really the right word. Reduced or modified would be better.

          • So they already do reduce the streams of the top 2 tracks which in most cases are tracks 1 and 2 on an album for the albums chart. So this works for the albums chart but they should reduce the streams of the first 2 tracks on the singles chart, as well. Because those tracks tend to be the highest and are not always justified.

Lavender Haze is track 1 on Midnights and is 2nd highest purely because it's the first track. You can see why the Lana track is 3rd highest despite being lower down the album. In the case of Arctics the first 2 tracks are singles so it's clear why they'd be high (as is track 3 Anti-Hero on Midnights). Not every artist puts their best tracks at the front of an album, though so sometimes the casual stream effect looks odd on the singles chart.

Well you cannot really make a generalization like that. In the case of Adele and 30 wasn't it I drink Wine and Oh my god that also made the top five.. and those tracks are way down the tracklist!

It just transferred to albums because that's the only real physical market left. It's true that Arctics are less popular in the States so it wouldn't be a battle for her there. As you say - in these times when everyone is strapped for cash only the hardcore can afford every single format. I doubt that is many people in these days. And her fans aren't all kids like BTS fans who feel they must have them all.

Those figures are so huge that you can see that it's more than just a format hyping issue. And watch it in week 2 and 3 - she will probably still outlast The Car because her album is more accessible than theirs. Baffles the heck out of me that people that would never buy lounge music go crazy for this stuff just because it's them. Where are all the these people when Jarvis does a lounge album? Where is all the airplay when Jarvis does a lounge album?
You really underestinate the Swifties - Images of mass buying were all over Twitter when Folklore dropped - a lot of people bought all the CDS and later bought more signed copied and vinyl.

                          • I wonder if Taylor can pass 200K? Arctic Monkeys seem to be heading for around 118k to 120k.

                            • It is quite a feat that Kylie could end up with a new peak purely through a vinyl reissue (albeit with low sales).

                              • She could easily pull 140-150k pure sales. And 1-1.1 in the US. Wow! That's already over 1.2 million in pure sales from just two countries.

                                • According to Buzzjack's 'sales' breakdown is:

                                  Taylor
                                  70,761 CDs
                                  58,300 vinyl

so 130,681 of physical product (137,146 of real sales)

                                  Arctic Monkeys

                                            31 October 2022
The Beatles’ Revolver re-release challenges Taylor Swift’s Midnights in race for UK’s Number 1 album

A very special re-release of The Fab Four's most sonically innovative record is looking to displace the record-breaking Midnights. Can it?
                                            By George Griffiths
After a record-breaking arrival last week which saw her claim an Official Chart Double, Taylor Swift has found herself up against none other than The Beatles in the race to keep Midnights at Number 1.

As Midnights lead track Anti-Hero leads the Official Singles Chart charge, could Taylor make it another week at the top of both the Albums and Singles charts? She has some tough competition, from one record-breaking Official Charts act to another!

At Number 2, this week’s highest possible re-entry could come courtesy of The Beatles, with a special new Deluxe re-issue of Revolver. The seventh studio album from the Fab Four is notable for its innovative and avant-garde production style, which is considered a turning point in the Beatles’ career. Revolver originally debuted at Number 1 upon its 1966 release.

Michael Ball & Alfie Boe team up once again for Together In Vegas (3), which could become their fourth consecutive Top 3 album as a duo. They’re followed by acclaimed British DJ Fred again.. who, after producing hits for the likes of Ed Sheeran and Stormzy, is close to netting his first UK Top 10 album with Actual Life 3 (4), and British rock band Massive Wagons with Triggered (5).
MORE: The Beatles' Official Charts history in full

Further new entries inside the Top 10 look set to include Foo Fighters’ new greatest hits collection The Essential (6), Tom Odell’s fifth album Best Day Of My Life (7), Paul Weller’s ambitious triple-album Will Of The People (8) and Blue’s Heart & Soul (10), which could become the boyband’s first UK Top 10 album since 2004.

Just outside the Top 10, rising British pop star Dylan could make a massive debut with her first major-label mixtape The Greatest Thing I’ll Never Learn (11), following a string of viral singles. Hereford rockers The Hunna also issue their self-titled fourth record, aiming for their first Top 40 entry in four years (13).

Further down, Canadian-American rock band Palaye Royale head towards their first Official Charts entry with Fever Dream (24), the vinyl release of Calvin Harris’ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 could see it return to the Top 40 (29), and Garbage celebrate their longevity with greatest hits record Anthology (31).

And finally, spooky season may be coming to an end today, but The Damned team up with Hammer Horror for live album A Night Of A Thousand Vampires at Number 35 midweek.
