Bastille look set to score third UK Number 1 album with Give Me The Future

Dan Smith and co are leading charge of all-new midweek Official Albums Chart Top 5
    By George Griffiths
Give Me The Future by Bastille could become Dan Smith and co.’s third UK Number 1 album this week, as it leads an all-new midweek Top 5.

More than doubling the weekend chart sales of its closest competition, Bastille’s fourth studio album is flying ahead on physical copies. The band previously hit Number 1 with debut album Bad Blood (2014) and Wild World (2016). View Bastille’s Official Charts history in full here.

In the Number 2 position, The Divine Comedy’s greatest hits collection Charmed Life could become Neil Hannon’s fifth UK Top 10 record, as well as his highest-charting album ever on the UK Official Chart. Read more about The Divine Comedy’s greatest hits record here.

Cambridgeshire rock band Black Country, New Road are also looking to gain their highest UK chart peak to date with second album Ants From Up There on course to debut at Number 3, while nu-metal outfit Korn’s 14th album Requiem eyes a new entry of Number 4.

Rounding off the midweek Top 5 is US indie-rock singer-songwriter Mitski with her sixth record Laurel Hell (5). Released after a four year hiatus, the collection could become her first ever UK Top 10.

Carpe Diem, the 23rd studio album by English heavy metal band Saxon, could be our final new entry in the Top 10, currently pacing for a Number 7 debut.

Elsewhere, following the release of a special-edition blue vinyl, Dave’s influential debut album Psychodrama vaults 54 slots up to Number 13. It previously peaked at Number 1 in 2019, also winning that year’s Hyundai Mercury Prize.

Following its 45th anniversary on February 4, Fleetwood Mac’s iconic album Rumours flies 15 places midweek to Number 14.

At Number 17 in the Official Albums Chart Update, Billy Bragg’s 2021 album The Million Things That Never Happened gets a boost from its vinyl release, on its way to out-peaking its original Number 44 result from last year. Welsh musician Cate Le Bon could earn her first UK Top 40 entry this week with new album Pompeii (24), while James Blunt’s The Stars Beneath My Feet (2004-2021) rockets 37 places to Number 27 following his Wembley Arena gig on February 5.

Finally, noted DJ Pete Tong’s collaborative Pete Tong + Friends: Ibiza Classics is heading for a Number 30 debut. If it holds on it will mark Pete Tong’s fourth Top 40 album.

The Official Albums Chart is revealed every Friday at 5.45pm on OfficialCharts.com and on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills from 4pm.

        • I'm curious to know what, if any, effect last night's Brits ceremony has on the charts either during the rest of this week or early next week.

The programme itself was a bit of a ratings disaster with overnight viewing figures of only 2.7m which may be the lowest ever.

I saw them say this on Buzzjack but where is the credit? The article still says "Ed Sheeran" only in the chart part. It's only the article itself that says "Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift". I was referring to the chart section only as we can't take anything they say in the write-ups as gospel these days!

Frank Turner set for first ever UK Number 1 album with FTHC

The album leads a barrage of new entries this week
                        By Carl Smith
FTHC could become Frank Turner’s first ever UK Number 1 album this week, as it leads a barrage of new entries in the midweek Top 10.

Currently leading with more than double the weekend sales of its closest competition, Frank’s ninth studio album FTHC – an initialism for Frank Turner Hardcore – is shooting ahead on physical sales. If it holds on it will best Frank’s highest-charting albums to date, Tape Deck Heart (2013), and Positive Songs For Negative People (2015) which both reached Number 2. See Frank Turner’s full Official Charts history here.

Sitting at Number 2 in the latest update, alt-J’s fourth studio album The Dream looks set to land the group their third Top 5 on the Official Albums Chart following 2014’s This Is All Yours (1) and 2017’s Relaxer (6).

Slash and Myles Kennedy are also looking to claim their highest UK Albums Chart peak to date with their fourth collaborative album 4, which is on course to debut at Number 3. The album is on track to out-peak their 2018 release Living The Dream (4) and become Slash’s highest-charting UK album to date outside of his Guns N’ Roses success. See Slash’s full Official Charts history.

James Morrison rounds off this week’s Top 5 with his Greatest Hits (5), potentially James’s fourth Top 5 album and sixth Top 40.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Viola Beach’s self-titled album is set to re-enter the chart at Number 7, following a special vinyl release. The posthumously-released album debuted at Number 1 in August 2016, after the group suffered a fatal incident alongside their manager in February of that year.

Brooklyn-born rockers Big Thief look set to bag their first Top 10 album with fourth studio album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You at Number 8, and Pearl Jam guitarist Eddie Vedder could see his third solo studio album Earthling enter at 9.

Outside the Top 10, Joy Division’s 1981 compilation Still could land at Number 12 following a special 40th anniversary vinyl reissue; the collection originally peaked at Number 5 on its release.

Further new entries could come from US rock band Spoon’s Lucifer On The Sofa (26) and Oregon retro country band The Delines’ third studio album The Sea Drift (29). Finally, Roger Taylor’s sixth solo album Outsider (32) could re-enter the chart thanks to a limited edition picture disc.

                        • Wow. Kim Petras is at 96 on albums. It wasn't top ten on iTunes so must be getting decent streams.

And The Joker and The Queen IS credited to Ed Sheeran only. As i said. Doja Cat creeps in with one of TWO covers of Hole's Celebrity Skin released this week.

I was just looking at the First look update that the OCC published yesterday. I notice it's still just Ed Sheeran on the OCC top 100 update. The OCC just list whatever credit is on the main version of the track that all downloads and streams are linked to so the label may have to change this by nominating the Ed and Taylor version as being the main version of the track.

                                • Good sales for Frank Turner though album sales will be extremely front loaded. He should have sold enough to hold off Ed Sheeran who should end up at #2.

They may not count for either. The CDs will only count for the UK charts if they are shipped to a UK address. They will only be counted towards the Hot 100 if they are tracked by MRC. I don't know if MRC would be tracking these sales.

For the second week running Ed has a belated guest act who is not credited by the OCC.
They played the original Bad Habits on Radio 1. Presumably it's on ACR but might get a reset. I'll decide on Friday if the (terrible!) BMTH version is popular enough to have a brackets credit on the weekly thread.
