      • What an outlook. The whole Top 5 is a parade of duds. I'm so out of touch these days.

        • ^ Musically I'd have to agree with you on the whole, certainly about the top five, although oddly among the whole 20, there are four of that lot that I do have on my '2022 Singles' streaming play-list (6, 8, 11 and 12)!

Stereophonics look set to claim eighth UK Number 1 album this Friday with Oochya!, the Welsh rockers’ twelfth studio album is currently outselling its closest competition by almost 2:1, according to Official Charts Company data.

The band – comprising Kelly Jones, Richard Jones, Adam Zindani and Jamie Morrison – have notched up seven Number 1 albums to date; Performance and Cocktails (1999), Just Enough Education to Perform (2001), You Gotta Go There to Come Back (2003), Language Sex Violence Other (2005), Pull the Pin (2007), Keep the Village Alive (2015) and Kind (2019). See Stereophonics’ full Official Charts history here.

There are a total of three new entries heading for the Top 5 this week, with Buckinghamshire-born rock band Marillion currently sitting at Number 2 with An Hour Before It’s Dark. Their twentieth studio album is on track to become their highest-charting since 2004’s You’re Gone (7) [ this is a SINGLE, you idiot!!]. See Marillion’s full Official Charts history here.

The Coral’s eponymous debut – first released in 2002 – looks set to re-enter the chart at Number 3, thanks to its 20th anniversary remastered edition. With its b-sides and previously-unreleased tracks, the re-release could see the album out-peak its best to date of Number 5. See The Coral’s full Official Charts history here.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Swedish heavy metal group Sabaton currently sit at Number 6 with their tenth studio album The War to End All Wars, Kris Barras Band bring some British blues to the chart with Death Valley Paradise at Number 8 and Kojey Radical sits at Number 9 with his debut studio album Reason to Smile.

Meanwhile, The Lemonheads' 1992 album It's a Shame About Ray is a re-entry at 11 following its 30th anniversary re-release. Dolly Parton looks set for her 15th UK Top 40 LP with Run, Rose, Run (14) which serves as the companion album to her forthcoming mystery novel of the same name. Seattle-born Band of Horses could claim their second UK Top 20 with sixth studio album Things Are Great (16), while Kawala’s debut album Better With You eyes a Number 20 debut.

Pink Floyd’s 1967 debut album The Piper At the Gates of Dawn could re-enter the Top 40 at Number 36 this week, thanks to a new mono vinyl release.

Finally, NilŁfer Yanya could see her third studio album Painless become her first to chart in the UK, at Number 38 midweek. NilŁfer will be this week’s guest on The Record Club, talking all about the making of the album from 6.00pm on Wednesday, 9 March.

                      • Music Week update posted by Martin on Haven

The Welsh band's Oochya is enjoying a strong lead, its 22,191 sales driven overwhelmingly by physical (18,745). In at No.2 is Marillion's An Hour Before It's Dark, clocking 11,833 sales. Ed Sheeran's = (5,214 sales) is closely ahead of The Coral's The Coral (4,149 sales) at Nos 3 and 4 respectively, while last week’s No.1, Central Cee's 23, falls to No.5 (3,997 sales). Further new entries to the Top 10 this week are Sabaton's The War To End All Years at No.7 (3,168 sales) and Kojey Radical's Reason To Smile (2,856 sales) at No.8.

In the singles race, Dave posts 35,043 sales for Starlight, putting it a comfortable distance ahead of Fireboy DML & Ed Sheeran’s Peru (21,996 sales in at No.2). The success of Dave's latest track is powered by impressive streaming figures, with more than four million streams across audio and video so far. Downloads account for 315 sales.

As the frame nears its close, Nos 3 and 4 are unchanged from last week: Where Are You Now? by Lost Frequencies and Calum Scott (19,280 sales) and Make Me Feel Good by Belters Only (feat. Jazzy) (17,935 sales). Down Under by Luude ft. Colin Hay (16,800 sales) completes the Top 5, while ACR continues to impact long-time No.1 We Don't Talk About Bruno, which slides one rung further to No.8 (12,851 sales).

                          • A poster at BuzzJack has pointed out that 'The Family Madrigal' has mysteriously vanished from the mids this week as it should be at number 11. I had thought it must have fallen lower than 'Surface Pressure', therefore allowing 'What Else Can I Do' to chart as one of the 3 tracks from 'Encanto' that are allowed to chart. However this isn't the case. It seems to have been removed from the chart. Assuming it has been removed at the request of the label, it is puzzling. It also is against the OCC's own chart rules!

A label can request that the 3rd biggest selling track by an artist (in this case the Encanto Cast) be removed from the chart and replaced by the fourth biggest selling track and "in exceptional circumstances" the second biggest selling track can be removed and replaced by the fourth biggest selling track. However for this to happen the track that the label has requested be removed must be below #20 and if it is the second biggest selling track it must be on ACR. Neither of these rules apply to 'The Family Madrigal'. Very curious...

                            • Martin, from both Haven and BuzzJack contacted the OCC about 'The Family Madrigal' vanishing from the charts. He got a reply:

                              Hi Martin

                              Thank you for your email

The Family Madrigal has been excluded by request of the releasing label, as they have moved onto marketing the next single and want that to appear in the Official Singles Chart

                              Many thanks

So the OCC really are making up the chart rules as they go along! The bizarrest thing is the next single would have appeared next week anyway as 'The Family Madrigal' is set to move to ACR tomorrow and would have then allowed 'What Else Can I Do?' to chart. All that happens is that 'Surface Pressure' will continue to chart while 'The Family Madrigal' is now excluded from the charts for the next 6 months.

Rex Orange County is on course to claim his first ever UK Number 1 album this week with Who Cares?

The 23-year-old singer from Hampshire – real name Alexander James O’Connor – currently leads what looks set to be an all-new Official Albums Chart Top 5.

Rex Orange County’s fourth studio album – his second to be released with major label backing – is on track to debut at Number 1, beating the peak of his previous record Pony (5).

See Rex Orange County’s full Official Charts history here.

Elsewhere in the Top 5, Swedish heavy metal group Ghost currently sit at Number 2 with their fifth studio album IMPERA. It couldbecome the band’s second Top 10 album, following 2018’s Prequelle (10).

Bryan Adams is on course for a Number 3 debut with So Happy it Hurts, his fifteenth studio album. The record could become Bryan’s eleventh UK Top 10 album to date.

Currently at Number 4, Franz Ferdinand’s greatest hits collection Hits to the Head is on track to become their sixth UK Top 10 album, potentially giving the group their highest Official Albums Chart peak since 2009’s Tonight which peaked at Number 5.

Rounding off the all-new Top 5 are The Shires, whose fifth studio album 10 Year Plan looks set for a Number 5 debut following the group’s C2C: County to Country music festival slot. The band last hit the Official Albums Chart Top 5 with 2020’s Good Years (3).

Ella is this week’s guest on The Record Club with Bowers & Wilkins, discussing the making of the album on Wednesday 16th March at 6.30pm.

British-Australian singer Thomas Headon is on course for a Number 9 entry with his Victoria EP, while American rapper & singer Lil Durk sits at Number 10 with 7220.

Another new entry could come from New York band Bodega’s Broken Equipment at Number 28 midweek. And, finally, English alt-rockers The Boo Radleys’ first album in 24 years, Keep on with Falling, sits at Number 39.

                                            • What bad timing that Sam Fender's Seventeen Going Under hits ACR on the week it had a boost from Ant and Dec. Though i suppose he wanted the album to sell.

Crash is leading the race for Number 1 this week.

Charli XCX could Crash (quite literally) into her first-ever UK Number 1 album this week.

Her fifth studio album, and last in her current major label contract, Crash is currently leading the race to top the Official Albums Chart. The record is currently the biggest seller on physical formats of the week too - 83% of its total chart sales so far. See Charli’s Official Charts history in full here.

Currently at Number 2, indie rockers Sea Girls are aiming for their highest peak in the UK yet with their sophomore album, Homesick. Welsh band Feeder are also aiming for a Top 5 debut; their eleventh album Torpedo is currently at Number 3, potentially marking their landmark tenth Top 10.

Three acts could also gain their first Top 10 entry this week; Brighton rapper ArrDee’s debut mixtape Pier Pressure (4), singer-songwriter Sam Tompkins’ debut major label EP Who Do You Pray To? (6) and US folk band Midlake with fifth record For The Sake of Bethel Woods (8).

Following the release of a new digital deluxe edition, Becky Hill’s 2021 debut album Only Honest On The Weekend could be a re-entry at Number 15. The collection previously peaked at Number 7.

Former Libertines member Peter Doherty teams up with French musician Frédéric Lo for The Fantasy Life of Poetry & Crime (22), rock icons Iron Maiden celebrate the 40th anniversary of their third album Number of the Beast (29) and Latin superstar Rosalia’s Motomami is on track to become her first Top 40 entry (32).

Juice Wrld’s posthumous fourth album Fighting Demons could re-enter at Number 33 following the release of a deluxe edition – the album previously peaked at Number 8 in 2021 - and finally, Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards’ second solo album Main Offender could re-enter at Number 35 following a special 30th anniversary boxset.
