It's still hard to believe that, after nearly six years of doing this show, Blathnaid Treacy still hasn't grasped how to plan ahead and keep track of how the time is going so that all of the top thirty can be played in the ample time available. No competent chart show presenter sets out with the intention of playing all the hits except the number four and number three - but, having wasted time at the start of the show with a couple of "throwbacks", listeners hoping to hear these two of the currently most-streamed hits towards the end of the second hour would have been disappointed:

This is a very strange occurance. I don't stream so maybe it is up there somewhere as a "solo" record but it'd be hard to find as a CD these days. If we could see the catalog numbers it might help. If the PK version has the same tracks in the same order (and I don't know) then why aren't "sales" being combined as one.

There is still no explanation that I have seen for the Sofia Carlson album charting as a various artists album.

The album charts are just getting weirder.

Blathnaid Treacy found a new way to bungle things this week. By about two-thirds of the way through the second hour, she had played everything in the top thirty from 30 to 06 except for "Creepin'" at number 18 - and she mentioned that it was there, but that she didn't have a "clean" version and it was too early in the evening to play a "dirty" one. However, although she had said that the Brenda Lee hit was coming up at number five after Ed and Elton at number six, what actually arrived following a commercial break was the number three from Wham! - and she then just continued with the number two and number one, apparently not realising that numbers five and four had been missed. With several minutes remaining before nine o'clock, she just made a start on the Homegrown Top Twenty, and by the end of the third hour had played all of them except these three:.

In last night's Official Chart Show, Blathnaid Treacy mentioned that she will be presenting a two-hour show with all the number one of 2022 from 6.00pm till 8.00pm tomorrow, Christmas Day. I see from the schedules for the week ahead that a normal Chart Show seems set to air at the usual time this coming Friday (30th December) - but as Blathnaid is doing another three-hour show early in that day, it may be that someone more competent will be filling in for her in the evening. If past years are any indication, however, I doubt that any of the seasonal songs that will surely still fill a lot of the higher positions will be played.

So it doesn't look as if 2FM will be doing a chart of the year - but Hit 30 na hÉireann has done one. It has already been aired a few times on Raidio Ri Ra, and is likely to air on the other syndicated stations on the evening of Christmas Day - 8pm on Spin1038 and Spin South West, and 10pm on Beat102103. (Also, probably truncated, at 8am on Beat102103). Unfortunately, it seems to illustrate that, however it is compiled (I still don't know how!) it does not bear much relation to reality, as measured by the Official Chart. In last night's Official Chart Show, Blathnaid Treacy mentioned that she will be presenting a two-hour show with all the number one of 2022 from 6.00pm till 8.00pm tomorrow, Christmas Day. I see from the schedules for the week ahead that a normal Chart Show seems set to air at the usual time this coming Friday (30th December) - but as Blathnaid is doing another three-hour show early in that day, it may be that someone more competent will be filling in for her in the evening. If past years are any indication, however, I doubt that any of the seasonal songs that will surely still fill a lot of the higher positions will be played.

On the way home from visiting family I tuned into Downtown Radio just after 6 to hear the end of the NI Hit 40 countdown only to find that it wasn't on there so I retuned to 2FM to find Blatnaid was actually playing a random selection of Christmas number 1s from the last 20 or so years. When I got home just after 6.30 I tuned in online to Cool FM who it turned out were counting down the NI Hit 40 which I have posted above.

Normally DJ Hix does a countdown of the Top 10 singles before playing the number 2. This week PK didn't do that. After playing Wham at 2 he did a countdown of the Top 10 songs of the year before playing Harry Styles with As It Was. Following that he ended the show by playing this week's number 1 from Mariah Carey. Here are the Top 10 of 2022.
