Any estimates yet for YTD Week 31? Looking for 2022 YTD sales, hip-hop as usual but if I can get my hands on a Top 200 YTD chart it would be awesome regardless of the year tbh

I noticed a recent major discrepancy between Billboard's units and RIAA's units.

RIAA certified Beyonce's "I Am... Sasha Fierce" 6x Platinum today, along with re-certifying all its eligible songs.

However, Billboard claimed it was at 8.19 million units last month.
At 8.19 million, the double-LP set I Am…Sasha Fierceis Beyoncé’s highest in album equivalent sales.
    https://www.billboard.com/music/rb-h...ut-1235103589/

Although RIAA uses a 1500:1 album sale ratio for all streams, and Billboard uses a 1250:1/3750:1 depending on the tier, there is no way a difference that large would result especially with an older album released pre-streaming era.

So which one is more closer to the truth?

I Am.. Sasha Fierce's pure sales: 3.3 million

Individual track equivalents (song units divided by 10):
    If I Were A Boy - 650K (certified 6x Platinum)
    Halo - 950K (certified 9x Platinum)
    Disappear - 25K
Broken Hearted Girl - 75K (certified Gold)
Ave Maria - 75K (certified Gold)
    Satellites - 25K
    Smash Into You - 25K
    That's Why You're Beautiful - 25K
    Single Ladies - 950K (certified 9x Platinum)
    Radio - 25K
    Diva - 250K (certified 2x Platinum)
    Sweet Dreams - 350K (certified 3x Platinum)
    Video Phone - 150K (certified 1x Platinum)
    Hello - 25K
    Ego - 150K (certified 1x Platinum)
    Scared Of Lonely - 25K
    Why Don't You Love Me - 25K
    Poison - 25K
    Honesty - 25K

= 7,149,000~ estimated units with RIAA

I generously put all the songs at halfway to the next certification (i.e. a song certified 1x Platinum for 1,000,000 at 1,500,000) because she did not certify these songs as soon as they reached their eligibility. The last time she did a full career re-certification was over a decade ago. Many of these have likely already reached their current eligibility years ago, and are were well on their way to the next certification.

7.149 million units estimated puts her closer with RIAA (6-7 million) than it does with Billboard (8.2 million). In reality, the album is probably just below 7 million (6.90-6.99 million) and thus it was 6x Platinum with RIAA. Mind you, I was generous with a few songs more than likely.

Billboard's number is confusing, but I believe sometimes when they reference total equivalent units in articles at times they add in un-official video streams. These numbers do not count with RIAA, and they also shouldn't count with Billboard (Billboard 200 only includes official video streams). However, Luminate/Nielsen also tracks un-official streams til this day and shows equivalent units totals with official streams and additionally also with un-official streams to those who have access to their numbers. They show various different breakdowns. Thus I believe Billboard quoted the number with unofficial video streams added in. However, Billboard should only be referencing the total with just official streams.

The staff member who wrote that article is not apart of the Chart department, but Editorial department, so it is understandable why they incorrectly quoted a number that should have not been quoted.

I would still put it in the 550k-600k range. It was at 400k in March 2021, and I think it has moved 150k~ units since.

HITS also publishes a weekly-updated YTD Top 50, however for the most recent week they reference numbers via their HITS Album Chart. These numbers are slightly different from Billboard/Luminate official numbers they receive because they estimate the last 1-2 days of the tracking week to publish the chart Friday (Billboard/Luminate's numbers for the tracking week do not get finalized until Sunday once said tracking week ends). Thus, there will be a difference of units by a few thousand for albums.

    2022 YTD Albums Week 26 / Mid-Year
    • December 31, 2021 - June 30, 2022
    • HITS currently gets their data from Billboard/Luminate due to them buying out Alpha Data, so their YTD numbers are exact Billboard/Luminate numbers.

Oldbloke's last post (on this thread anyway) was May 28th.
Oldbloke's location on his profile at ukmix is listed as Loughborough, England. While locations don't always mean anything, it seems a bit random for someone from another country to choose a location which isn't particularly well known, even to many people within England.

Looking at his Pulse profile (for melody56, his username on those boards) he says in his early posts, back in 2008, that he is from England. His early posts were also of the UK, not US, charts and include a post that was copied from long-defunct UK music board CHC Media (the board that splintered off into BuzzJack in March 2007 and then closed down later that year). I'm assuming he was also a poster there.

One of his early posts at Pulse reads:

I live in England, and started buying the UK music papers in the mid-70's, and began collecting the charts they printed. These also included the "USA" charts, some were Billboard, others Cashbox. They were never the complete chart, just the top 30. 40 or 50. In the 80's, PC's and spreadsheets arrived, and I began my computerized collection of music charts. Eversince, I have been gradually building up this collection.
I wonder if the 56 part of his username at Pulse is a reference to the year he was born? It would possibly tie in with him starting to buy music papers in the mid 1970s as he would have been around 19/20.
