So last night (30/12) i started to add the lower 76 - 200 figures from the wonderful weekly charts spreadsheet using kobyhadrians charts to hanboo's database.which i have copied into an excel spreadsheet. Boy did i ever underestimate how many times 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' re-entered between 83 and 85. Thank goodness no one ever had the foresight to ask hanboo at the time for an Ann Breen chart run as i might lose the will to live typing in all the times 'Pal Of My Cradle Days' re-entered. Back to adding by artist and anything that needs to be updated i can update as i go along.

Apologies, I didn't realise I had filtered the file to the chart for 23-03-1985. I'm not sure why I've filtered it to that date either. I possibly chose a random chart to make sure the filter was working and then forgot to change it back.

I've amended the file and have reuploaded it. You should be able to view all of the 1985 charts now.

Oh probably. You can use OpenOffice (which is free) or upload into a Google Drive account to similarly remove it. If your on Mac the file will open in Pages and and do the same thing.

Well.....I must be doing something wrong then, because that link in post #532 appears to contain only the chart for 23-03-1985.
I cannot scroll up or down to find the complete 1985 chart.
That's because the file is filtered. Somewhere in the excel settings - depends on your version - is a button called Sort and Filter - usually on the ribbon to the right. Press, remove filter, and there you go.

Once I've had a chance to check through it I'll upload the final version, which will also include the 1983 and 1984 weekly charts. That said, it should be hopefully free from (many) errors as it is the spreadsheet I used to copy and paste the charts I posted each day, though that means any errors in the weekly charts will be replicated here. As an added bonus, the file also contains the catalogue numbers of the 7" versions of each chart entry (or 12" version if no 7" was released).

Again, the multiplier used is 17 (more on multipliers later today or tomorrow in the 1986 thread) and the charts can also be filtered by date if downloaded as an excel file.

Thanks for the reply. My original point was that on the year end chart published in this thread at No. 33 is Wham's 'Last Christmas' (peak No.6, 6 weeks on chart, 20,902 points which equates to 355,344 sales).
A quick scan of the 1985 charts shows 'Last Christmas / Everything She Wants' started the year at No.2 and spent 33 weeks on the Top 200; the re-issue did peak at No.6 with 6 weeks on chart. The majority of its 1985 points/sales come from the 1984 original double A sided single.

I was just wondering if you will be able to make an additional xlsx document with all weekly Gallup charts for 1985 as you previously did with 1983 and 1984 ?

    Many thanks!
I will do. I'll try and do it in the next few days. The document is there already, I just need to tidy it up a bit and will then make it available to download.

'Jingo' by Candido was one of the most enduring dancefloor hits in clubs during the whole of the 1980s. The single was originally released in August 1979 and was regularly re-issued / re-pressed during the 1980s to meet demand. The track was a top 20 hit for Jellybean in 1987/88.

Marillion built up their fanbase by consistent touring, and I imagine they sold a fair few records to satisfied gig-goers. I think 'Market Square Heroes' and its B-side were both non-album tracks, which probably helped too.
(In fact, it might be interesting to plot the links between bands' tour dates and the reappearance of their singles in these charts?)
I always thought that U2 missed a trick in '85: If they had rushed into a studio and brought out a new single straight after Live Aid, I bet they could have had their first No.1. Instead, they were right at the tail-end of the 'Unforgettable Fire' period.
Tracks like 'Jimmy Mack' could have been popular in Northern Soul clubs?
...But the endurance of Ann Breen's 'Pal' still stumps me! How (and to whom) was it marketed? Was it played in Irish Centres up and down the country? I've seen ladies take the microphone and give heart-tugging renditions of 'Danny Boy' with tears streaming down their faces, and so I can see it's appeal, but somehow 'Pal' doesn't quite seem to be in the same league, I wouldn't have said anyway.

an interesting list and an interesting mix of records which shows that records that continued to sell while outside the top 200 covered more than just the rock or indie genres

Another thing I thought of doing was to subtract [Sum of panel sales per 52 x weekly Top 200] from [Panel sales per EOY Top 1000] to see which charting records had the most p/sales from weeks spent outside of the 200. So here's the Top 50:

It could be. I've tried a number of times to post directly from excel to the forum but nothing I do seems to make a difference.
