It's definitely Run - this is a charity version (for Sport Aid) which was released in May 1986. The Rule version had been a top 5 hit in 1985.

It's a strange one as the single wasn't released until Friday 23 May 1986 (therefore two weeks after the sales period the above chart covers) but it's listed under the Run title on the Gallup chart report. My take is that it's probably the original version that's selling but Gallup is listing the record under the Run title.

Robbie e - incidentally, how you do know it was the Friday of that week that this single was released? I only ask because while we have access to most weekly release lists of the period, in that 1980-'87 period it's hard to know without other sources corroborating it whether the actual day of release was the Monday or Friday of that week (or indeed any other day, although one surmises that it'd normally be one or the other). I tend to find that by late '85 labels are defaulting mostly to the Monday, and by '86 that was the most common day of the week for releases.

EDIT - WIkipedia shows Fri 23 May apparently derived from Record Mirror, but wider question still stands when looking at Music Week release lists - presumably we can't tell if a product was issued Monday or Friday?

Lowly arrival for the underrated 'The Promise You Made' by Cock Robin at 156. Sly Fox rebound to 104 but still two weeks off breaching the 75.

Great to see the excellent 'Quiet Life' by Ray Davies appear at 116, albeit little surprise that it didn't make much more of an inroad into the chart at that time.

Re-issue of The Damned's classic 'New Rose' makes the Top 100. Guess we'll never know if that's better than it managed back in '76...

'The Promise You Made' by Cock Robin is excellent. It should have been a much bigger hit.

I remember hearing 'Crush On You' in 1986 on Capital Radio in London. This is definitely the era where an increasing number of records were having to be re-issued with better promotion in order to become big hits.

Have a look at Falco's weekly sales figures in April and May 1986 with Rock Me Amadeus. Then look at his chart positions. Who would have guessed his highest weekly sales would have been when he was number 3 in the UK chart, and not at number 2 or 1 as he reached in subsequent weeks? Even more surprisingly, as it dropped from 1 to 4 it increased its sales total slightly. It's lowest total in these particular week being the week it spent at number one!!
