I find it surprising that 'Back Seat Of My Car' was a relative flop. All four Beatles got off to a strong start as solo artists but then Paul McCartney released this one and it missed the all-important Radio 1 / BMRB top 30, peaking at #39. Was there a particular reason why this one struggled? It's not his best and does sound more like an album track than a single but it's not that bad.

Yes - it is odd. Not sure if there was a problem with airplay but it's not a particularly suggestive song despite the title.

Even the McCartney songs that did pick up a BBC ban in the early '70s ('Give Ireland Back To The Irish' and 'Hi Hi Hi' ) were much bigger hits...

'Burundi Black' is the record that Malcolm McLaren handed to Adam & The Ants (who he had just started to manage) to listen to when lead singer Stuart Goddard (Adam Ant) and the band turned to McLaren seeking a new musical direction. It was quite an inspiration even if things didn't quite go the way McLaren intended (he persuaded the band to ditch Adam Ant and form a new band with a different singer... welcome to Bow Wow Wow). Adam Ant recruited new band members for the Ants and successfully adopted the musical style.
