You made a mistake with Paula’s venue. It’s not Zappos Theater.

It's "Total Sold/Total Capacity". My bad.

There’s two things here in my mind that are relevant.

Firstly, it is no more competitive now than it has ever been - there might be more acts but the number of shows occurring is broadly the same. What’s different is the ability for today’s Vegas acts to shift tickets - what you are seeing in Vegas is broadly replicated with world tours (the acts that shift the most tickets are established live acts or veteran names).

Secondly, the numbers above will significantly improve the closer to the shows you get - it is long established that a significant number of show tickets in Vegas are sold for a lot of acts in the run up to show time.

This is something I have noticed, especially when I was there as there are so many places that offer last minute cheap tickets on the strip, to be honest I only started paying attention when the Xperience was announced but it's interesting for all artists.

Surely there are more high profile people performing there than ever though.

But probably fewer overall shows than ever before as artists now perform mini residencies or shorter residencies, as opposed to lengthier ones (the model has shifted somewhat).

                                It’s quite telling.

To get a fairer picture of the magnitude of this - below is that same list of acts and for how many shows they achieved 100% before their first non sell-out occurred (it's based on legs rather than individual shows - so if a leg had 4/5 sell-outs, that isn't included as it's not possible to verify when that first non sell-out occurred).

                                    1. Celine Dion - A New Day...Live in Las Vegas: $120,937,620 - 886,091 tickets sold - 219 shows
                                    2. Elton John - The Red Piano: $105,631,100 - 600,697 tickets sold - 151 shows

                                      • I don't like Gwen shows' grossing amounts. Like that $345K average is low.

Anyways, she's done more than 30 shows in Vegas by now and she's been there as an Act for a year already, so it was obvious that she was going to decline over time considering the first few legs are always the strongest ones.

                                            • Def Leppard Launches Vegas Residency

LAS VEGAS (CelebrityAccess) — British rock legends Def Leppard kicked off their headlining Las Vegas residency “Def Leppard Hits Vegas: The Sin City Residency,” to a sold-out crowd at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Wednesday night.

Produced by Live Nation and Caesars Entertainment, the show features the veteran rockers mining their catalog to perform fan favorites such as “Love Bites”, “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Animal.”

As well, for their opening show, the band performed an acoustic set that included material the band has never performed in front of a live audience.

While Vegas was once seen as the venue of last resort for touring artists, numerous high profile acts have performed residencies there in recent years, following the success of Canadian singer Celine Dion’s decade-long Vegas run. Zappos has hosted residencies by Sheryl Crow, The Backstreet Boys, Gwen Stefani, J-Lo, Florida Georgia Line, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Pitbull among others.

Def Leppard are slated to perform 10 shows at the venue through September 7th.

                                                • So, if my maths aren't wrong, for this 2nd leg:

                                                  $8,859,220‬
                                                  51,875/62,400 (83,13%)

                                                  Average attendance: 4,323
                                                  Average gross: $738,268
                                                  Average ticket price: $171

                                                  Residency final numbers (18 shows)

                                                  Total gross: $12,999,856
                                                  Total attendance: 76,813/93,452 (82,2%)
                                                  Average gross: $722,214
                                                  Average attendance: 4,267
                                                  Average ticket price: $169

As discussed before, gross is great, average ticket price too… but wrong venue, imo. Average of 1,000 unsold tickets every night. Could have been sold out in a smaller venue.

Anyway, I hope she extends it and announces more dates, as it's been a successful residency in the end.

I think they are the only artists with George Strait, Lady Gaga and Aerosmith to gross over $1 million in a opening run (average).

                                                      • I think from now on more and more artists will start to pull +$1million per night with more ease at Vegas. That industry has developed and grew a lot in recent years and economy has changed too, it's not the same tickets prices from years ago to the current prices in 2019 and upcoming prices in 2020 and the viability of the Vegas concept improved too.

I feel like years ago Vegas was like when itunes was new, at first it was just about small numbers with just a few people pulling good downloads until then Gwen Stefani came with "Hollaback Girl" and broke records with being the first song to sell 1million units on itunes in US to then exploding with everyone doing great on itunes and having million and multi-million songs right, left and center. Same thing happens when some industry, platform, or format grows and explodes and will happen to Vegas, there will be a point where grossing $1M and even $2M per show will be the NORMAL and standard thing there and everyone will be beating everyone's records.

Vegas hasn't reached it's peak yet.

Capacity has also increased to 4,470 (from 4,296) which will mean grosses will be slightly higher.
