        • So they sorted out the DJ Spoony issue (it charted early on compilations)?
I've given it a much longer artist credit on the album schedule (following the sleeve artwork) though i may leave out The Ignition Orchestra and conductor if the single charts.

            • So it seems James will end up at #1. Pretty impressive six years after his victory!

A shame his debut didn't reach #1 on the back of "Impossible", otherwise it would already be his third #1!

                    Very interesting
Kanye invades both charts. Number one albums falling very quickly.

DJ Spoony site error at 90 - it's not new since last Monday. It's down from 35. You can't even go back to the previous week's chart to check - it just reloads the current one. Good job we have it on here!

                      • A potentially good week shaping-up for those of us who like Editors, White Lies and Slow Readers Club! I can understand why the former are ranked so high, but more surprised at the latter's live album doing that well given their low chart profile hitherto. Does anyone know why 'To Lose My Life' is suddenly back in the running? If they were going to issue a ten-year special edition or whatever they're ten months too late!

Does anyone know why 'To Lose My Life' is suddenly back in the running? If they were going to issue a ten-year special edition or whatever they're ten months too late!
I hadn't noticed the 'To Lose My Life' re-entry. I looked on the White Lies wiki page and couldn't see anything but a check on amazon shows it is indeed a 10th anniversary release available on CD, vinyl and a 2 disc deluxe vinyl set, the latter retailing at an eye watering £33.99. It's a great album which I bought many years ago in a Google Play Music mp3 bargain bin sale for £1 or £2.

                            • The White Lies deluxe has been on the album schedule for a couple of months now.

Are they "banning" the X Factor: Celebrity singles from the chart or is Megan McKenna just outside the top 40?
Surprised to see some of them still listed on iTunes chart - Megan at #2 since Sunday. Didn't Cowell/XF always ban them from the iTunes chart as well? Perhaps they later made them visible but still had their sales removed from OCC chart? I can't remember!
Unlike in the past - all the tracks are on streaming and other services outside of iTunes.

'This' by Megan McKenna is just inside the top 75 and is probably charting almost exclusively on downloads. I doubt the track will be inside the top 100 by the end of the week.

Wow. I was expecting you to say no. A #2 download can register that low? YouTube isn't included yet, though so that should help.

It shows how low download sales are these days... YouTube doesn't help much with additional chart sales as most Youtube streams are on the free / ad-funded version.

It seems to help all those GRMDaily artists that invade the charts - unless it's just a springboard for audio streams.

I meant to post yesterday but forgot. Megan McKenna's track has been removed from the charts. Its sales on Tuesday's midweeks were enough to have kept the track (just) inside Wednesday's midweeks top 100 but it wasn't there. Perhaps it charting on Tuesday was done in error as the track was also absent from Monday's update.

                                            • Yes, it did seem strange that we are even allowed to know she's the most popular. They used to have a complete ban on any sales positions - including iTunes. But it's still listed at 49.

It's certainly pushing it to call the Children In Need album an artist album. It's a project / collabroration album featuring various artists. I've looked at the albums chart rules and I think the OCC are being generous here as it's difficult to shoehorn in the album as being an artist album. Under chart rules an artist album can include single orchestra recordings and original cast recordings and original cast performance soundtracks where all performances (inclusive of opening and end credits) are performed by the cast. The album would then be a cast album. But the Children In Need album isn't a cast recording as that rule is for stage and film performances.

The alternative route to a multi-artist album being eligible for the artist album chart is if there is a common link to all tracks, usually a producer or perhaps, as in this case, an orchestra. All tracks feature the BBC Concert Orchestra which makes me wonder if that is where the "BBC Co" part of the artist credit for the album comes from. It's possibly just listed in shorter form on the chart print-out.

The artist name is listed as just BBC Children In Need on Amazon. HMV has it listed as Various Artists.

Just a quick belated thanks for your response Robbie and doing the bit of research I didn't have time to do! £1 or 2 is shocking for such a good album! Think I spent nearer a tenner from good old HMV - actually 20, as I bought a second copy for a friend who I knew liked WL. He looks back on it especially fondly, as it was No 1 when his first child was born on sales of over 28K. Actually all their long-players have been great to my ears, as so many of the tracks could've been written as singles - one of the few bands still rising to the challenge of melody as opposed descending into the bargain bin of beats and noise!
