• Highest Grossing Live Acts of All-Time

We have a Las Vegas Residencies database - the best such resource on the net - and I wanted to see if we could achieve the same but this time including all live performance grosses to give us the list of the highest grossing live performance acts of all-time.

We'll have an overall list and three separate lists: males, females and groups.

In here, we'll also include a list of the highest-grossing tours of all-time and some record-breaking box-office grosses also.

A lot of the leg work has already been done by our very own @matheusbelmont - so massive thanks to him.

Some of the data looks to be outdated - not massively - therefore, please bear that in mind when casting your comments. My plan is to look into each act individually and where possible, build a database of each act's numbers.

Note - all forms of live performance count towards the totals of each act, be that residencies, tours or collaboration tours. If you have the numbers ready for your favourite acts, please post them to save me some leg work. If you're making estimations, please make sure they are educated - if I like the look of them, I'll include them in the database.

I'll focus on the women first - for clarity, the format will be:

Year / Tour Name / Total Gross / Total Attendance

I might then also do some detail work behind the averages.

Wayne why do female numbers differ, while males are the same in both charts?
I have received many gifts from God,
but this is the first time I have ever received a gift from a goddess

Dear Wayne you can't just post the breakdown for a few acts, and then random numbers for other artists.

9. Cher – $510 million

These are Cher's available estimated figures which are quite close to exact totals. For older tours with the missing data, the gross is calculated using available reports from Billboard's archives and other news reports collected by og fans on Cher's official message board, you are welcome to visit and browse if you like. Some totals are lowered than the ones usually attributed to the tours' final gross by fans or some of her biographers.

1979-1982 - Cher in Concert Tour - $2,000,000
1979-1982 - Celebration at Caesar’s Palace Residency - $7,000,000
1989-1990 - Heart of Stone Tour - $25,000,000
1992 - Love Hurts Tour - $10,000,000
1999-2000 - Do You Believe Tour - $80,000,000
2002-2005- Living Proof: The Farewell Tour - $235,000,000
2008-2011 - Cher Residency - $97,000,000
2014 - Dressed to Kill Tour - $55,000,000
2017-2019 - Classic Cher Residency - $51,000,000
2018-2019 - Here We Go Again Tour - $110,000,000

Estimated total: 672,000,000
By the way, Forbes reported that 'The Farewell Tour' grossed $250 million several years ago, but the 235 million figure is probably more precise. The reported shows equate to $207 million, and with about 40 shows not reported it definitely grossed above $230 million.

FGS, I’ve already made clear that this is a work in progress, I’m adding the numbers as and when I can and I’m working down the list top to bottom.

Therefore, please don’t tell me what I can and can’t do - I appreciate the input, and please keep providing it. But please read what I have posted around the numbers and the fact they are outdated and incomplete.

^Are you serious? You posted 200k gross for a Celine tour in 1983(?!) but don’t bother to do research for other artists who made millions for their more recent tours?

Even if you just count Cher’s tours from 2002-2019 the total is $548 million, so don’t be so snappy but rather objective and acknowledge other artists success and histories too. This is still a board made for all and not just for a few, well for three to be exact, divas and their fans...

Calm the f down. He created this thread yesterday. It clearly states in the first post that not all numbers are up to date and that he'll update one after the other and it just happens he started with Celine. Instead of bitching you can appreciate the fact that Wayne is doing all this work to provide an overall data base and thread. Provide receipts and numbers and he'll include them surely. Not all has to be about stan wars.

Groan.

The work for Celine is already done, it’s a copy and paste job.

Same for Madonna - hence them being done.

I’m only going to say this one more time - this is still very much a work in progress, it will become more beefed out with more valid figures as I work down the list - at that point, I’m sure Cher’s numbers will change (as you’ve helpfully provided some numbers which I can sense check).

I’m very calm, no need for the f word. When someone wants to provide data and be fair to all in question, the research should be done at least 80% not 20. The thread could have been opened much later with more up-to-date info, this way it gives way to people just copying what’s presented and going along with it and that’s how misinformation starts, in other words, he may get o update other artists’ stats in 8 months and until then this will be a “matter of fact” to some people.

Great thread!

about Highest Average Gross - Tours, we may add Streisand's Timeless tour av. gross, right?... she played 10 dates only but she made 70M USD total so av.g. is 7M USD

oh and the SpiceGirls '19 tour made 78.2M USD and they played 13 dates so 6M av. gross I think

Celine's Courage World Tour has boxscores for 19 dates so far amounting to $33,194,537 [~$1.75M per show], so her career total is around $1.4 billion (and is on track to surpass Madonna with another 103 scheduled arena dates to come).

Celine is at around $1.430 billion without Courage numbers - including them, she's at around $1.463 billion but Madonna has also added to hers quite significantly since she started (need to check by how much). They are neck and neck as far as the ladies go considering the unreported shows Celine has also had, two touring titans!

Ah, I was going off the $1.365Bn number that needs to be updated in the top list, I see you've added breakdowns now. Very nice, seriously impressive numbers for tons of acts.

Elton John also currently passing $2 billion with his current tour and ultimately surpassing Paul McCartney to be the highest-grossing solo male is insanely impressive too. Such an iconic live act
