It will be interesting to see by how much the streaming market shrinks this week and whether any tracks currently on ACR can outperform it by 25% or more to move back to SCR from Friday. The most likely to do so is 'Dance Monkey'.

Well it's nice to see some new stuff getting a chance but we don't need the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Tones And I returning. I was hoping to see Sigala finally up there, hopefully they're not too far out.

As someone at BuzzJack has observed: all the Motion Picture Cast Recordings albums that charted on the main album chart last week ('The Greatest Showman', 'A Star Is Born' and 'Cats') are missing from the midweek Album charts published today. Has there been an unannounced rule change that now excludes them from the main album chart?

"Suddenly"? She was at 8 yesterday. The drop is consistent.

Didn't notice the Cast albums missing! I'd be happy to see the back of TGS.

So many tracks have have an automatic reset back to SCR from Friday that the only track inside today's midweeks top 40 is 'Dance Monkey' ('Memories' by Maroon 5 has had a manual reset which would require a request from the record label). And 'Dance Monkey' almost had a reset to SCR too, it was less than 0.5% away from reaching the "outperforming the streaming market as a whole by at least 25%" threshold.

Had 'Dance Monkey' been reset it would be at number 1 today and not at number 5.

This random nonsense is why I have lost all interest in the singles chart.

The need for streams to equate to sales was necessary and it's a largely temporary measure until sales dwindle to next to nothing.

However, these arbitrary rules about 3 tracks, ACR etc are not in keeping with the principle that the most consumed tracks get the highest placings.

Yeah, I am an old fuddy-duddy but this isn't great. Chart positions are now being determined by rules and not popularity. I used to look at the US charts and reflect how much better the UK charts were with their clear methodology. Those days are gone

Honestly what is the point anymore? I made a comment yesterday about the irony of calling it "new music Friday" when barely any new songs enter the top 40 - only nondescript grime or rap music which tends to benefit from YouTube video streams.

                                    I mean, Shotgun?

Just to clarify as my post didn't quite make sense. I meant to post that the only track on ACR inside today's midweeks top 40 is 'Dance Monkey'. Everything else is either still on SCR or has had a reset back to SCR from last Friday.

It's still incredibly pointless. Dance monkey is still the #1 streamed song whilst everything else got a natural boost as the christmas songs disappeared, plus people playing 2019 hits playlists possibly too. It feels as if the OCC are penalising Tones and I just so that it doesn't go back to #1 for more weeks, rather than the song decreasing whilst everything else increased.

About as artificial as Ellie Goulding being #1 last week with a song nobody asked Alexa to play.
