    Does anyone know more about this chart and how it was calculated?

    Presumably it was a (weighted?) average of individual charts from the major markets?

    Thanks for posting the above. I think it may be the first time I've seen the MRIB Worldwide Singles chart as I don't think I bought Sounds as late as 1983.

    I don't know what methodology was used in compiling the chart but I assume it was a weighted average of individual charts from the major markets.

    The only mention I'd seen of this chart prior to your post was a passing comment made by former UKMix poster Dave Taylor in the following post back in 2012

          "Kimini Munekyun Ymo - Alfa" - that's actually a band YMO with Alfa being their record label and a song called "Kimi ni mune kyun"

          I think this chart must be created by size of the market rather than collation of charts - Dolby's song wasn't a hit in Europe and Japanese performers weren't having hits outside their homecountry.

            Thanks - that'll teach me to copy what's printed in Sounds without engaging the brain!

            I agree - it's probably a weighted average of charts.

            I suppose given enough time and trial and error it might be possible to work out the method used from the results....
