‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ Lights Up Top 10 on Billboard’s Album Sales Chart

It’s the sixth-biggest selling holiday album of the Nielsen Music/MRC Data-era (1991-present).
Vince Guaraldi Trio’s ever-popular soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas returns to the top 10 on Billboard’s Album Sales chart (dated Dec. 12), as the set jingles up the list 14-9 (on the chart dated Dec. 12). The album, first released in 1965, sold just over 14,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 3 (up 37%), according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Notably, of that sum, 11,000 were on vinyl LP (up 35%).
With A Charlie Brown Christmas’ 14,000 copies sold in the latest tracking week, its total sales in the Nielsen Music/MRC Data era (1991-present) jump past 4 million, rising to 4.005 million. The soundtrack to the animated TV special, which premiered in 1965 on CBS TV, is the sixth-biggest selling holiday album of the Nielsen Music/MRC Data era.

Mariah and Celine's first albums were both released about a year before soundscan was implemented Celine's Unison in April 1990 and Mariah's Self titled album June 12th 1990 the first billboard 200 for which soundscan was used was dated May 25th 1991 which was Mariah's 48th week on the chart she was #3Leave a comment:

Here's my annual update of the Soundscan Era RTD list based on estimated sales to the end of 2019. Sadly, there were no SoundScan catalog chart leaks in 2019. but we did get offical final numbers for the 4 albums on this list that were released in the 2010-2019 decade. There are no new entries on the list this year, though it looks like it will be the last year in the top 200 for Enya's "Shepherd Moons" as Bruce Springsteen's 1995 released "Greatest Hits" compilation is just a couple of thousand behind, and currently sells at a faster rate.

GARTH BROOKS MADE HISTORY ON SEPT. 28, 1991, when his third album, Ropin' the Wind, debuted atop the Billboard 200: the record became the first country title to bow at No. 1. It also dethroned Metallica's then-five-week-old eponymous album. No small achievement: The latter recording has gone on to become the best-selling album – 16,969,000 million copies – in the United States since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in May 1991.
With 72,375,000 million albums sold in the U.S. since 1991, Brooks is the best-selling artist of the Nielsen era, ahead of runners-up The Beatles, with 69,983,000 million.Leave a comment:

the first chart for which Nielsen Soundscan was used was May 25th 1991 yes most of Whitney's early certs for her first 3 albums were done prior to soundscan for example her debut album was certified 9 x platinum in 1988 her 2nd album was certified 6 x platinum in 1988 also and I'm Your Baby Tonight reached 3 x platinum on May 2nd 1991 same goes for Mariah Carey's self titled debut it was certified 5 x platinum April 29th 1991 also Barbara's had 8 Billboard 200 #1 albums from March 1974 to September 17th 2016 or 42 years 6 monthsLeave a comment:
