        • What's up with these album certifications that get added after certifications that have a later certification date?

E.g. The Demi Lovato or Camila Cabello records in early January or the Miles Davis and NF records that were certified January 28th, but I think were added just today.

In the other news, we're down from 7 to now just 1 album tagged as 'digital', whatever that meant in the first place

This was a live album released in 2018, that failed to chart on Billboard 200.

HOW is it 4x Platinum? There's been cases of corporations bulk buying albums for 1x Platinum (Rihanna, Jay-Z) but 4x Platinum??

                        He comes off desperate.

                        • ^It was probably in a boxset or bundled with a concert ticket purchase.

Garth knows how to play the RIAA game very well.

He once said he wanted to pass Elvis for RIAA album sales He has.

Garth is 27xP away from the Beatles. The Beatles are very under-certified.

                          • As the name implies, it's a triple-disc album which the RIAA of course counts as 3 units.
And then it's part of two different box sets ("The Anthology Part III: LIVE" and "Legacy"), although neither has charted particularily well.

There only have been 2 months between the 1xP and 4xP certifications, I do wonder what's up with that.

                            • Garth explained here:

                              https://themusicuniverse.com/garth-b...diamond-award/

Each of the new certified albums are part of Brooks’ new Legacy vinyl collection that was released in November 2019. The project sold 420,000 in 18 hours during the first pre-sale window in February 2019, and has moved over one million units of the 14 disc box set containing seven vinyl records and three CDs.

How did it sell 420k in less than 1 day but not chart?

Also I doubt he could sell 420k with a new studio album in a day (let alone a week), so how did this live album do it?? Was it bundled (if so, the question is again how did it not chart)?

Anything sold via his homepage, i.e. webstore and, formerly, his digital store is not reported to nielsen.
Also, I'm not even sure whether Amazon is allowed to disclose his sales to nielsen and other chart compilers. My educated guess is no.

                                  • Technically it did chart, but only on the sales of stores reporting to Nielsen/RollingStone, which does not include all the pre-orders. Upon debut the Legacy collection did not hit BB200, hit Country Albums at 42 and vinyl albums at 2 (as "legacy") and 15 (as "The Legacy Collection) (Either some funny rules preventing combining, or BB just messing up). And then a few weeks later it hit it's BB200 peak of 149 in a 3 week run peaking country at 18 and vinyl sales at 4. On RS200 it hit #44 with 16k units made up of 8k sales that count double and then #148 and #167 with half those totals over the same 3 week tracking period.

Then the 420k and 1 million figures seem to refer to vinyl sales, which would put box sales at 60k and just over 140k respectively.

Lastly, all 500k copies of the box set seem to have shipped: https://garthbrooks.com/vinyl
And as the Triple Live album is in there with 6 discs (3 CD + 3 Vinyl) that'd probably account for the 1xP > 4xP jump within 2 months, which probably means the Anthology III box set must've shipped 333k+, mostly untracked, units for that first 1P.

At the end of the day it's just a course on 'how to win the RIAA' by selling box sets containing 14 discs for $50-$75 a piece. Or get all three versions, 42 discs, for under $150!

                                      • Geez, “No Fences” probably has the most inflated RIAA certification. The Soundscan numbers have it close to 9.5 million and it may Diamond at best. Can’t really say this strategy is manipulation, given there is no policy regarding price points, but this a far stretch of the truth...
