Here is a Link, to a South African Chart Site, that goes back as far as 1958, with the Top Selling Top 20 Singles of each Year.

Plus, it goes back to 1969, with many other South African Chart Statistics.

Unfortunately South Africa don't have official sales charts (singles/albums) since the late 80s. Also don't have official airplay chart. Only radio stations or votes charts.

The list has no albums charts.

Besides.The lists are a bit unfair since they start in 69 and cts like Bee Gees ,Beatles and Stones hd a lo of hits before 1969.The Bee Gees had 2 numer ones wth Massachuetts and get a mesage plus several top tenners.

So Abba is the biggest?

Thanks, Fresh. I found the South African Site, & had no way to know how the Charts & Statistics on it were created.

A Friend of mine - Chris - helped to create some parts of the Site. I will ask him for more details about it.

The list has a lot of mistakes.Besides the Aussie charts are not the Kent ones or the ones used by the Ian McFarlane in his Encyclopedia of Auatralian ROck and pop.

These lists are good for starters on the internet but not for a serious study.

Jcguzman, I know that the Australian Chart Site does not use the Kent Australian Lists, but it is still interesting to look at. The UK, & USA, Lists on it are Official ones, anyhow.

1) I realise that the South African Site only goes back to 1969. That is the trouble with many Internet Chart Sites - some Countries started their Charts rather late.

2) The Swiss Album Charts did not start until November 6th 1983! So Acts like, The Bee Gees, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, & ABBA, have not done very well - with Statistics - if you look at the Swiss Album Charts. And the Swiss Singles Charts did not start until 2nd January 1968!

3) The German Guy who runs the Charts-Surfer Site, gives Points to every Act's Weekly Album Positions, in the German Album Chart. However, he only gives the Points out Weekly, from about January 1992 onwards.

From 1962 to 1991, he gives Points to every Week that an Act spends at Number 1, in the German Album Chart. If a 1962 to 1991 Album Chart Act did not get to Number 1 with an Album, he just gives Points to the Peak Position that, that Album reached - so if it was a Number 2, or a Number 3 Album etc, he gives just one set of Points for that Position. He ignores all that Album's other Top 10 Positions.

4) This means that only Acts who have had German Hit Albums, from 1992 onwards, get Points for every Position that they have spent in the Top 10. Which is why Robbie Williams has scored so many Points under the Guys Points System - as Robbie has had all his German Hit Albums after 1992.

5) But, Acts like The Beatles, Bee Gees, Rolling Stones, & ABBA, etc, get a lot less Points than they should get - as before 1991, he only gives them Points for their Weeks at Number 1, & Peak Positions of non Number 1 Albums. However, The Beatles spent so long at Number 1, (Albums), in Germany, in the 1960's etc., that they still manage to be one of the Top 5 All Time German Album Acts - despite only getting Points for their Weeks at Number 1 - Based on the Top 10. (They are about 16th based on the entire German Album Chart).

But, ABBA, The Bee Gees, & The Rolling Stones all do not do as well as they should do.

6) However, he does give Points for every Week - every Position - in the German Singles Charts - so all Acts are treated fairly by him, in the 1956 to 2007 German Hit Singles Chart Period.

JCGuzman, I know that you like The Bee Gees. I like them - very much - too.

I wish that ABBA had worked with them, in 1978. It would be good if Agnetha, or Frida, would work with them in the future.

Hi Zeuss.

I like the Bee Gees very much ,its true also I like Abba the Stones and several other groups.

I do really admire ABBA .I am not saying this in order to be nice ,,.They have stood the test of time in spite of being together for such a short period.

Being a tennis freak myself they were like Bjorn Borg ,they won everything and sold millions in 8 years and thats is awesome.

The Bee Gees had a longer carrer and they remained together mainly because they were brothers.

It would have been great if they had worked together back in 78 .They were not friends but the respect was mutual.Barry was very impressed with the success of Abba in the Uk a country not always nice to the brothers specialy in the early 70s.

Its sad many old charts are so difficult to find but I am sure in Countries like Denmark , South Africa Hong Kong to name a few Abba and the Bee Gees were huge .

Hello. As far as I know, the single sales market in South Africa "died" in early 1989. So, no new sales charts were published. But...
I wonder, if there was at least one airplay chart in this country after the single market collapse? Because, according to Chris Kimberley, in Zimbabwe the airplay charts continued during the whole 90s. Can anyone please help in this matter?

Music charts from "5FM Radio" formerly known as "Radio 5" will be very appreciated. Just everything chart related after year 1988 and before Mediaguide in 2013.
