      • I just saw a clip on Youtube of Thats The Way by KATW that had 19 at the beginning. Just barely at the end, it sounds and looks like Girl I’m Gonna Miss You which means it was 18 instead of 17 that week. So that means I Like It by Dino fell to 17 that week(?)

        • They clearly skipped whatever was between the two vids. This was a couple years before they started doing back to back vids, and had still had VJ segments for each. "Girl..." still could have been #17.

            • I remember Bruce Hornsby being 13 on the reunion weekend in 1990 before Hang In Long Enough was 13. Oddly enough, that video got the short treatment even though it moved two places mostly because of time constrictions regarding the length of the video and the special edition.

One quick note, Robert Cray moved from 15 to 10 instead of the estimated 14 to 10 with Smoking Gun after watching some clip on Google Drive on some Facebook page.

Most likely. I’m not on Facebook anymore, though. I recall I Just Called To Say I Love You and Blue Jean being 20 and 14, respectively, on the VJ reunion edition.

A year after I started watching as much as I could and one week before I turned 11.

Wow. I was just a few weeks into high school when that aired.

Two strange absences from that countdown I never noticed since I guess I missed the intro: no beginning mention of the week's drop-offs ("Crazy" from Seal and "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" from Bryan Adams) and no Prime Mover award given. ("Skat Strut" from MC Skat Kat was given the award despite also just managing a #19 debut.)

One other flashback I remember from that week's countdown was "Love Shack" from the B-52s making its debut 2 years earlier in 1989.

Couple funny things: one of the other countdowns to hit the youtube, the last week of Feb '90, also featured Paula Abdul dropping from the top to #4. (Not to mention MC Skat Kat, who tumbles here after peaking at #12.)

Also, the 3/4 week trajectories of "Promise of a New Day" from Paula Abdul and "Run Around" from Van Halen mirrored those of two videos from 3 years prior:

"Promise of a New Day" went 1-4-10-19 exactly 3 years after "When It's Love" from Van Halen, ironically.

"Run Around" went 3-7-14 3 years after "I Hate Myself for Loving You" from Joan Jett.

Too much free time on my hands, lol.

                    • I remember Mill Vanilli's "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" chart run as 17-14-7-3-2-1-6-12
Katrina and the Waves "That's the Way" 20-19-18
                      Dino's "I Like It" was 18-14-10-18 or 18-14-10-10-18

                      • Dino was #12 on the week of 8/11 (Moscow Music and Peace Festival Edition) and was never listed in the top 10. That must have been his third and highest charting week.

                              • Cool, thanks! Awesome what turns up all of a sudden every now and then! Susanna Hoffs is super adorable as usual.

“Don’t Speak” also spent 3 of its 5 weeks at #1 holding back a former chart topper, in this case future/former Gwen hubby Gavin Rossdale’s Bush with “Swallowed” (only the latter successfully reclaimed the top spot). Live also held the top while TLC was runner up for 3 weeks in spring ‘95.

                                • On that old Icehouse top 20 compilation on Youtube, I barely got number 12 by pausing it a lot and it was Henry Lee Summer moving up 5 places instead of the estimated 13 position.

                                  • Interesting find. Which might mean “Wishing Well” dropped a spot to #13.

Yep, loads and loads of arbitrary rankings, as if MTV felt emboldened to shuffle videos around to boost ratings a bit towards the end given the usual suspects present otherwise. Notably, all but one video in the top 10 on MTV in early Oct. 88 was in there, albeit in mostly inverted rankings with respect to their overall performances.)

                                      P. S. Also early in the days of the new VJ segment setup, where they were getting back to a studio from a green screen from the past 3 years, and when they first started playing instrumental sections from recent videos in the background, something that would creep its way into the top 20 in a couple years.

                                      • I've been wanting to see that MTV 300 list for some time, I knew Def Leppard was #1 but that's about it, the rankings seem a bit different than they should've been though, but I guess they were going by artists that were still popular.
Weird seeing Paradise City as GNR's top rated video.
I wonder how Tom Petty did on the countdown.
This was broadcasted during '91 wasn't it?
