HUR, I've just a curiosity: how is Absolute Greatest in Argentina? Is it moving a bit in the market or is it penalized by the fact that the two Greatest Hits have obtained an enormous success?
The second option is the most likely. It is penalized. It debuted at #3 in the weekly chart and ranked at #15 in November 2009 (monthly chart). Both are shipments-based. In the over the counter ranking, it didn't even make the Top 20. If it sold more than 10,000, I would be surprised. It may become a good seller over the years, like it happened with "Platinum Collection" in many markets.

I think that Argentina is indeed their biggest market overall. I wish I could have some further details for other countries but I don't. I would say that towards the second half of the 70's and early 80's, they were equally big in Chile, Argentina and Brazil. But, on the whole, Argentina does have the lead. But there are exceptions; in the early 90's, "Innuendo" sold 150,000 copies in Mexico, for example, better than in Argentina.

Some of the top selling albums of the period between 1993 and 1994. Not all albums are there, but most are.

      Luis Miguel Aries 630,000
      Luis Miguel Segundo Romance 360,000
      Fito Paez Circo Beat 300,000
      Eros Ramazzotti Todo Historias 300,000
      Soundtrack Tango Feroz 300,000
Ace Of Base The Sign 300,000
Patricia Sosa Luz De Mi Vida 270,000
      Los Pericos Big Yuyo 250,000
      Soundtrack/Whitney Houston Bodyguard 240,000
      Aerosmith Get A Grip 180,000
Guns N Roses Spaghetti Incident 120,000
      UB40 Promises And Lies 67,000
      Roxette Crash Band Boom 65,000
Diego Tores Tratar De Estar Mejor 60,000
Joan Manuel Serrat Nadie Es Perfecto 60,000
Pink Floyd The Division Bell 60,000

At that time, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs' "Vasos Vacíos" was released and was certified platinum 7 times over for sales of 420,000 copies. Not sure what it sold, but it will have been there too.

Luis Miguel's "Segundo Romance" had just been released, which means that it went 6 times platinum in about two months. It would eventually go diamond.

Some international acts had some impressive sales, including Aerosmith with "Get A Grip", the first in a trend of consecutive successful albums in Argentina. Plus, Roxette were still doing very well.

That is great. I'm not sure if "Bad" has all its sales in anyway. Higher awards may have been achieved and they just don't show up in the Capif site.

I was waiting for someone to ask for this. Not all peak positions here. There was no singles chart (based on sales), but physical singles were allowed to chart in the main album charts. "Joyride" was number one.

                        Roxette

                        Joyride 420,000

                        Have A Nice Day 20,000

In the magazine Noticias, they reported the following sales in early 1992, before their concert:

De Suecia con amor ROXETTE ? VENTA DE DISCOS ARGENTINA
                        The look (maxi) 7.000 copias

10 (-) USE YOUR ILLUSION II, Guns N’ Roses.

                        My estimations:

There is not an official singles chart. All I can tell you is that ROXETTE was huge in Argentina between 1989 and 1995. Several hits topped the radios charts... actually there were a couple of Airplay charts using the information provided by the main radio stations but still not official.

The Top 100 singles is probably a combination of the main radio stations charts (Top Airplay)... which could be a kind of reliable source but still not official

What about Madonna? Have we got any exact sales? I once read she is the best selling female international artist there. Is that true?

                                                These are some known certifications:

                                                True Blue: 4x Platinum (160,000)
                                                You Can Dance: Gold (20,000)
                                                Like a Prayer: Platinum (40,000)
The Immaculate Collection: 5x Platinum (200,000)
                                                Erotica: Platinum (40,000)
                                                Bedtime Stories: Gold (20,000)
                                                Something to Remember: Platinum (40,000)
                                                Evita: Platinum (40,000)
                                                Ray of Light: Platinum (40,000)
                                                Music: Platinum (40,000)
                                                GHV2: Gold (20,000)
                                                American Life: Gold (20,000)
                                                Confessions on a Dancefloor: 2x Platinum (80,000)
                                                The Confessions Tour: Platinum (40,000)
                                                Hard Candy: Platinum (40,000)
                                                Celebration: Gold (20,000)

                                                + Revolver: Platinum (40,000)

I guess Like a Virgin is at multi-Platinum, but it has not been certified (maybe because it's such an old album). And her debut has probably done Platinum sales?

If I remember MJD's estimations correctly, he had her sales way higher in Argentina.

Anyway, have we got any precise figures, because I only posted shipments based on the exact certifications. ;)

Sorry, I have another question. Have we got any figures for Mariah?

                                                  She has the following certifications:

                                                  #1s: Gold (20,000)
                                                  Rainbow: Gold (20,000)

I assume her sales are much higher?

I don't have that info, maybe HUR..but surely her best selling album is "Music box" followed by "Daydreaming". MB must be platinum at least!

And Madonna: YES she is the best selling female in Argentina
