    • Guardians of the Galaxy better stay at No. 1, Wiz Khalifa has become such a random act in terms of commercial power lately. And this although his first era promised much...

        • YOUR TOP 15: Wiz Khalifa takes a substantial lead today over Hollywood's Guardians of the Galaxy ST, giving it a clear win for #1. And can we get a "Yeeeeee haw," 'cause set to debut in the Top 5 are Chase Rice's latest LP and Big Machine's Motley Crue tribute, featuring covers from Rascal Flatts, Florida Georgia Line, LeAnn Rimes, Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, Cassadee Pope, Darius Rucker, Big & Rich and more. Here's how it all looks headed into the weekend:

          * Wiz Khalifa (Atlantic) 75-80k
          Guardians of the Galaxy (Hollywood) 63-68k
          * Chase Rice (Dack Janiels/Thirty Tigers/Columbia Nashville) 37-42k
          Now 51 (NOW) 30-35k
          * Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute to Motley Crue (Big Machine) 27-30k
          Frozen (Walt Disney) 24-27k
          5 Seconds of Summer (Capitol) 21-24k
          Sam Smith (Capitol) 21-24k
          * Ace Frehley (eOne) 17-20k
          Ed Sheeran (Atlantic) 14-17k

                    It's always better if an album makes it to No. 1 with low sales (=less than 100k) in a later week than a new album because the latter one is only going to have a dire chart performance and will be reminded for having reached No. 1 but having dropped in the nowhere since. I don't have to remind you of Q1 2011, do I?

                        I hope they underestimate Guardians of the Galaxy like they did last week. I'm somehow not fine with the idea of Wiz Khalifa making it to No. 1: I fear that he could pull a Sia in the end :-? ...
                        What would that change for the music industry?
                        It's always better if an album makes it to No. 1 with low sales (=less than 100k) in a later week than a new album because the latter one is only going to have a dire chart performance and will be reminded for having reached No. 1 but having dropped in the nowhere since. I don't have to remind you of Q1 2011, do I?
                        None of this makes ANY sense to the industry. And isurrender's question has yet to be answered. Probably because there is no answer.
                        I was waiting for Bey to drop so she could show that T&A arent the only ones smashing album SALES!!!

                          • @danbarj: Well, what's the answer you'd like to hear? Technically no single album can save the industry, it'll always be the outstanding one instead of the representative. It's still better for the industry if it manages to have albums that prevent what doesn't want to be seen (= albums returning to the top instead of albums debuting at that position with low sales, albums with great longevity and albums selling a certain minimum of copies at significant positions).

                            @thebigham: Such posts aren't needed and only lead to trouble within the forum.

                                I don't know whether you're making it easy for yourself with such an answer, I think there is much more behind than that to be honest.

                                  Am glad Wiz Khalifa got to the top spot. Sales aren't completely wack like they were for Cake, for example, so that's all good.

                                    Agreed with both statements. But definitely glad Wiz got the #1 position!

                                      YOUR NEW RELEASES: Ariana Grande will notch her second #1 debut next week, and there will be go-go dancing throughout the land. Here are this week’s key debuts:

                                      Ariana Grande (Republic) 150-170k
                                      Brad Paisley (Arista Nashville) 50-60k
                                      KEM (Motown) 35-40k
                                      Avenged Sevenfold re-release(Hopeless) 20-25k
                                      G-Unit (G-Unit) 10-12k
                                      Royal Blood (Warner Bros.) 9-11k

                                      Avenged Sevenfold’s release, it should be noted, is the deluxe re-issue of their second studio album, Waking the Fallen. In other rock news, we’re keeping an eye on Brit duo Royal Blood, which is seriously buzzing among fans of alt-rock riffage. (8/27a)

                                        +1 And I agree about sales not being THAT bad. Whew... that was ONE miserable week. Rather have a 90k selling album topping the charts with 3.95 million albums sold altogether than a 44k selling album topping the charts with over 4 million.

                                        • I could care less about a #1 if the whole industry is still sucky. That doesn't make sense.

                                          Even when they announce "national health of finance" reports they don't say Wal Mart made X and act as if the sales/revenue at Target, Best Buy, KMart, etc. don't count. Selling Y at #1 shows the strength of that album to everyone else, NOT the health of the industry.

                                          Anyways, congrats Arianna on a (projected) healthy #1 debut! To have her first 2 albums debut at the top will be amazing! Along with the hit singles she's churning.

                                              But I'm shocked about Brad Paisley's low prediction. His last album Wheelhouse, release last year, opened with 100k, his new album might only do half of that. His popularity is dropping very fast: This Is Country Music (2011) opened with 150k! At least it could be enough for another No. 2 peak (which would be his 5th album to do so ).

                                                        The Billboard 200's new top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

                                                        The new album, which was released on Aug. 25, is the follow-up to Grande's first album, Yours Truly, which was released on Sept. 2, 2013. It debuted atop the Billboard 200, selling 138,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It has sold 487,000 in total.

                                                        My Everything boasts three top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100: "Problem," featuring Iggy Azalea (which peaked at No. 2); "Break Free," featuring Zedd (No. 4); and her collaboration with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, "Bang Bang" (No. 6). On the Hot 100 chart dated Aug. 30, all three of those songs were in the top 10 at the same time, making Grande only the second lead female artist to have three concurrent top 10 hits. (Only Adele, among lead-billed women, had done it previously.)

                                                        As for other notable debuts next week, watch for Brad Paisley's Moonshine in the Trunk to sell around 50,000 and Kem's Promise to Love to move about 40,000.
