  • People need to stop talking about pre-orders and frontloading. It doesn't matter. 2nd week falls are all still the same.

I'd say that you totally underestimate Gart Brooks' selling power... He was basically the male Taylor Swift in the 90s, of course years have passed, but that only raised interest and strengthened his legacy, anticipation should be immense... I could be totally wrong, but I can actually see his first studio album in years pulling a 500k+ opening.

HITS said this a few weeks ago:

      Foo Fighters 175-225k
Their last album was a Grammy favorite, their new album could have a stronger opening than their last one.

:-? I wanna have your problems....
What do you mean? I'm just happy if an act is successful and doing well on the charts... And aren't you the one who rather tends to be very emotional in such cases, especially when it comes to your favorites?

        • I still don't understand why Garth Brooks did not perform at the CMAs. He is about to drop his comeback album and he didn't make use of 'Country's Biggest Night' to drum up the anticipation even more? Sounds like a big lost opportunity. :x

He performed on GMA today so is doing promo work but not at CMAs? :(

          • Next week belongs to Garth. His tour is breaking records, and his performance of Mom, on Good morning America was amazing.

Seriously that song, is going to be one of his biggest.

Hits is predicting Man Against Machine will sell between 275-300K for its first week,

That is way way too low IMHO.

I think he can push 500K for his first week.

            • ^Almost every album this year has had lower than expected first week sales. I would not expect 500k.

Blake Shelton disappointed. Little Big Town disappointed. Florida Georgia Line disappointed.

Taylor Swift has really been the only surprise.

                    Brantley!

Eric Church's opening was also higher than I expected, the album just didn't match the longevity I hoped it would have... I'm not entirely sure, but I think Miranda Lambert's opening also exceeded my expectations.

The hip hop curse! Too bad that albums like Kendrick's are so rare from a commercial point of view... And Sigh No More-type of slowburners are close to impossible in the world of hip hop, sadly.

                              • WILL THE RACE GO TO THE SWIFT? Taylor Swift's 1989 will unquestionably be #1 again on this week's HITS Album Sales Chart, with a second-week number that's likely to be bigger the year's second-biggest debut. But there's a distinct possibility, particularly given the meteoric rise of second single "Blank Space," that she could take #1 yet again the following week. That week, of course, she'll actually face some competition, in the form of Pearl/RCA Nashville's Garth Brooks and Roswell/RCA's Foo Fighters. According to (very) early reads, Taylor could do around 250k next week, while Garth is looking 250-300k-ish, and Foo estimates are in the 225-250k range. In other Taylor news, the megastar, who graces the cover of our most recent print edition, has re-upped with BMI, her PRO of choice since she was 14. (11/1op)

                                • 250,000 would be terrific. That would be around a 34-38% drop, a much better hold than Red (down 43% in week 3). And way better number than Red, which did ~196,000 week 3, that would be ~165,000 today!! This is just incredible!!!
Black Panther is now the most popular Avenger; even bigger than Iron Man!

                                    • I think they are underpredicting Taylor as usual with the earlier updates. Garth probably will get the #1, but Taylor premiering the Blank Space video will give her a push beyond 250,000.

                                        • What the hell is wrong with hitsdailydouble??

Seriously, they think Garth's first week sales is only going to be 250-300K??

I mean what does this guy have to do for them to predict a big decent number.

Hell hes gone digital for the first time, (with ghosttunes and his own site,) the album has had overwhelming
                                          positive reviews.

The feedback from his performance of the song MOM on good morning america was crazy.

His world tour is smashing records, and lets face it, look at his soundscan numbers.

                                          Garth will push 500K.

As far as I can tell it was The Eminem Show in June 2002. It did 1,322,000 in week 2 and 809,000 in week 3. If you remember, this album was a victim of street day violations, and sold 284,000 in it's first "week", which was really only a dayish. So it sort of, did it in 2 weeks.

Taylor is selling a ton yes. But she would almost certainly be selling more if the market wasn't down.

Yes album sales are down, and I did take note. The industry though has a habit of underestimating Garth.

Judging by the way he is still selling tickets to his tour, he still has a base.

I mean the industry has foofighters between 225-250, if the foofighters are expected to do those types
of numbers, surly you can nearly double it for Garth. Sure it wont be like the 90's for him, but hell he
could push 200K for first week sales in his sleep, despite album sale numbers being down.
