    • Fall Out Boy are predicted to do very well, better even than with their last album. I'll always be happy with that since it's difficult to do these days, even if I don't care for the band.

I know you always have an axe to grind with me, but I'm willing to bet your "Lana Del Rey is now okay because she has a hit" mark ass didn't even know a Daft Punk song pre-Get Lucky, whereas I've been a fan since Discovery.
I have absolutely no problem with you. Actually missed you on here. Don't know why you think contrary?

And, actually, I've been a fan of theirs since "Da Funk" plus I love their live shows! I have, probably, a more eclectic taste in music than you. I don't just listen to NPR.

And I didn't even care for Lana until the SS remix. Check through history on here.

Can we get back to topic now?

Congrats on Meghan staying in the top
I was waiting for Bey to drop so she could show that T&A arent the only ones smashing album SALES!!!

          • YOUR TOP 15, PART TWO: The SPS (Sales Plus Streaming) breakdown finds the week's top sellers adding significantly to their totals thanks to single sales (oh, and streaming), with Maroon 5 getting a particularly nice boost; Mark Ronson and Hozier materialize on the list thanks to their hot tracks. Here's what our gerbil-powered algorithm spit out:*Fall Out Boy (DCD2/Island) 220-230kTaylor Swift (Big Machine) 110-115kMeghan Trainor (Epic) 80-85kEd Sheeran (Atlantic) 65-70k*Joey Bada$$ (Cinematic) 55-60kNicki Minaj (YMCMB/Republic) 50-55kMaroon 5 (222/Interscope) 45-50k*Marilyn Manson (Loma Vista/Concord) 45-50kMark Ronson (RCA) 45-50k*The Decemberists (Capitol) 40-45kSam Smith (Capitol) 40-45k*2015 Grammy Nominees (RCA) 40-45kKidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 40-45k*Lupe Fiasco (Atlantic) 35-40kHozier (Columbia) 35-40kYOUR TOP 15, PART ONE: Six debuts land in next week’s Top 15 on both the Album and SPS charts, including the splashy bow from rockers Fall Out Boy, who are set to follow Meghan Trainor's similar-sized debut last week; both releases are big retail news in the typically quiet month of January. Here’s how the album side looks headed into the weekend:*Fall Out Boy (DCD2/Island) 190-200kTaylor Swift (Big Machine) 80-90kMeghan Trainor (Epic) 50-55k*Joey Bada$$ (Cinematic) 50-55k*Marilyn Manson (Loma Vista/Concord) 40-45k*2015 Grammy Nominees (RCA) 40-45k*The Decemberists (Capitol) 40-45kKidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 40-45k*Lupe Fiasco (Atlantic) 30-35kNicki Minaj (YMCMB/Republic) 30-35kEd Sheeran (Atlantic) 30-35kSam Smith (Capitol) 24-27kJ. • Nice that Bjork debuted higher just from digital sales alone than her last album did as a conventional release that we had months to prepare for.

Glad that Sleater-Kinney made #21, I knew they would see a spike in sales just because of Carrie Brownstein's risen profile thanks to Portlandia.

Disappointed that Belle And Sebastian opened so low as their last album went to #15. Of course, chart rules were changed because you gotta keep the overhyped acts with the big bucks put into promoting them above the small cult acts who drop precipitously after the first week and the biggest fans bought it already.

It is normal, but maybe he expected a lower-than-average drop because of his current hit single. It's not unusual to see albums with current hit singles dropping much less than 70% in week 2, especially if their openings weren't that high from the get-go (= less than 100k),

                                              • 70% (or a bit higher) is the average drop for albums that open up with big numbers; Ronson's didn't, and to add to that as Timmy stated the digital sales that Uptown Funk is continuing to achieve should have saw the album hold up more strongly position-wise. 6-32 isn't good going considering the huge hit he has.

                                                Comment

                                                • I guess I just have zero expectations for the album in the US. The song is selling itself, not the album. Mark's name has barely increased in stature in the US - I wouldn't be surprised if most people saw it as "that Bruno Mars song", barely acknowledging Ronson. That's what happened here when Valerie was huge.

Besides, I don't agree that 71% is only to be expected when an album opens big. There are plenty of albums with small openings that drop by that or more, even with hits. A Great Big World opened with 48k and dropped to 11k the next week, even with Say Something.

Anyway, I'm not saying his sales are good - just that I don't think the percentage drop is any worse than is usual. I don't care about positions, only the sales.

I think the main problem with the album is that it is so all over the map genre-wise that the top 40 pop fans don't know what to do with an album that is largely indie when Imagine Dragons is about as "indie" as most of them are willing to go. I think it's a brilliant album that does a great job playing to both the pop and alternative bases, but I've read lots of whining Amazon reviews about people upset that they wanted more Bruno and instead got a lot of Kevin Parker from Tame Impala, probably not someone on the radar of those who consider Adam Levine their favorite rock star.

Taylor Swift will return to #1 next week as no new release looks to challenge her for the top spot. Here are this week’s top debuts, with likely album and SPS (Sales Plus Streaming) numbers:

                                                            Ne-Yo (Motown) 30-35 sales, 32-37k SPS
                                                            Papa Roach (117R) 21-24k sales, 24-27k SPS
Charlie Wilson (RCA) 20-23k sales, 22-25k SPS
George Ezra (Columbia) 18-21k sales, 20-23k SPS

Speaking of George Ezra, the young troubadour was recently featured in a pretty engaging NPR profile that explains the origin of his album title, Wanted on Voyage, and why he wrote "Budapest."

In other news, we're happy to report that the weather in New York City has been downgraded from "Oh my ******* god it's so ******* cold" to "Jesus Christ, I can't believe how cold it is."

Daft Punk were more of an underground cult before Random Access Memories as well.

Great for Taylor Swift! I expected George Ezra to debut with ~ 20k, so I'm content that my prediction matched.
