I wonder how the Beatles will do. That is a pretty hefty boxset, 13 discs or so. Even for big Beatles fans that's quite an investment considering they probably have some of the albums already. At $170 it is not really gonna sell to people making impulse buys.

      Yay, new topic!

      Nothing major this week.

Don't expect much for the new Beatles release, be interesting to see how HITS pegs it. Boxsets are difficult to predict, and the Beatles one is bound to be priced high.

Could A Great Big World open with 50k+? It's really good timing for the album with Say Something being at its peak right now

You know the Grammy's are this weekend and none of the nominees are promoting it, what's going on? I saw Sara Barellies on the View but that's it. CBS isn't even running any commercials about it. How are the nominees gonna get a sales buildup and boost? C'mon people!

Frozen looks to be the first movie soundtrack in over a decade to rule for 3 weeks. Though TV soundtrack High School Musical 2 did it.

People are gonna watch the Grammys just cuz it's the Grammys if they're gonna bother to watch. Promo for something like that shouldn't make a big diff.

YOUR NEW RELEASES: Frozen will most likely move back into the #1 spot next week. Top 5 contenders include Beyoncé and new releases from A Great Big World and the 2014 Grammy Nominees compilation. Here are this week's key debuts:

                  A Great Big World (Black Magnetic/Epic) 45-50k
                  2014 Grammy Nominees (Atlantic) 40-45k
Young The Giant (Fueled By Ramen) 30-35k

Speaking of the Grammys, a knockout performance by Lorde on Sunday night could give her a shot at the Top 5 as well. (1/22p)

I believe that in these conditions, if any of the performers achieve to stun with a mesmerizing performance at the Grammys a #1 is in the bag for them!

I don't know what Frozen is still going to reach but I'd love to see it becoming the next big soundtrack. This century we've had some successful soundtracks but if you ask me, none came close to the Grease, Dirty Dancing or Lion King soundtrack and I'd love to see something like this happening again .

all of those soundtracks had timess classic hits on them. I doubt Frozen can be as successful as those were. In adjusted sales, the soundtrack might need to scan at least 5m copies to be even remotely considered among their ranks. That would be Adele-esque impact and success.

Yep that's always in the cards. Well, the best would be if the 2 combine on an artist... I'm looking at Lordé & maybe Bruno but UJ already sold loads

Yeah, Lorde could achieve what Mumford & Sons already reached in early 2011 . You are right saying that Bruno Mars' album has already sold a lot but not too much to make another rebound impossible... Since Ellie Goulding's Halcyon in the UK I believe in every album being able to experience a late rebound anyway .

Damn, they would storm to #1 if the charts were built according to revenue like in Germany

In a related story, Richard Sherman yelled at an interviewer not to mention Olaf's name, adding, "I'M the most adorable snowman in the kingdom." (1/23p)

Frozen is doing amazing, but so is Beyoncé, 2x Platinum very soon

                                  Bruce... that was expected.

%-wise, that's a really big gap between #1 & #2 (at least 70%) esp for an album in its, what, 7th week?

In which way was it expected? I consider the drop quite big, especially looking at how the album performed everywhere else so far.

85/50=170%. Thus, Frozen is expected to sell at least 70% more than Beyonce.

Wow, a revenue-based charts system sounds really difficult to keep track of.

It would be interesting though, given how many times people will complain "w/e, its sales are only up/big cuz of discounts." But if it still made more $ than any other album that week even given discounts, complaints would be lessened...
