  • Timebomb and On a night like this are both songs that grew on me over time.
I am not trying to seduce you... Would you like me to seduce you? Is that what you're trying to tell me?

    • "On A Night Like This" is great. "Timebomb" is a bit meh to me

That's great! Personally, I think that "Timebomb" was quite instant but sometimes one really needs some time to make a song shine! Glad you like both entries.

I'm glad we can agree on OANLT - "Timebomb" is very instant, catchy and a bit basic (I can totally understand why it's a bit underwhelming for some fans) but it just makes me dance. Love it.

"Timebomb" hooks you right away with that insanely-infectious production, and the entire track is such a fun ride! Incredibly effective use of those cute little "woo"s throughout the chorus (similar to "Raining Glitter" years later). Like you said, it makes NO sense that this was excluded from The Best Of (leaving that compilation without ANY new tracks). If they could squeeze "Better Than Today" onto the Japanese edition, clearly there was space for "Timebomb" on the standard international version SMH.
"On A Night Like This" is another excellent pick! I ranked it similarly high on a Kylie countdown I did a while back. The whole track has such an epic, anthemic feel - and magical indeed!
Personally, I think that "The Abbey Road Sessions" are great to accompany a fancy dinner, haha. At least, I like to put it on when I really invested some energy and time to come up with something extra-ordinary haha. - So I somehow get what you said...it's a special album for special occasions

Oh, tbh, I haven't noticed the similarities in "Raining Glitter" and "Timebomb" - That's interesting! - "Better Than Today" That single killed a "meant-to-be-perfect" era :(

          Glad we agree on OANLT.
What was your Top 10 on your Kylie countdown?

          • #6: "Dancing" (2018)

"Dancing" was released as the lead single of Kylie's latest record "Golden" just more than a year ago but it already secured a special place in my heart. At first, I thought that the single was a bit underwhelming as a comeback single but it has grown on me very fast. Her sound (mixing country with pop) was kinda refreshing and showed a different side of the Pop Goddess. The arrangement stays light and dreamy and serves a euphoric vibe celebrating life which - in my opinion - is why this single will become a future classic! The light and playful arrangement contradicts the thoughtful and meaningful lyrics in which Kylie doesn't face any fear when it's time to pass away. In fact, Kylie herself confirmed that the song is indeed about death. I absolutely love this meaning! Kylie has come so far! Up and Downs, breast cancer, failed relationships, monster hits and flop singles, her unfulfilled desire to become a mother but she always stays positive and she has no regrets! When it's time to leave this world, she wants to go out dancing! - Brilliant songwriting! Tbh, I'm quite disappointed by myself that I couldn't place this amazing track inside my Top 5!

            • #5: "Your Disco Needs You" (2001)

It seems that we will have to go back to to Kylie's album Light Years for a while. "Your Disco Needs You" is the epitome of Kylie. It's euphoric, anthemic, instant, catchy, fun, a bit camp and totally full of glitter and happiness. I was so glad that it got released as an official single in Germany. The song is pop perfection, from its stunning intro (omg the strings and brasses, the male choir!) and that "You are useless at Scrabble" line is one of my favourite ones in pop music ever! WHAT A F*CKING ICON! - Damn, I love this track so much but honestly, it was so difficult to rank my Top 5! - Anyway, (re-)watch the song's music video and enjoy some Kylie bliss! <3

I wouldn't call "Flower" a Kylie essential but it shows a different side of Kylie and it's so intimate and personal. What a tender ballad.
I'm glad we agree on "In My Eyes", "On A Night Like This" and "Dancing", though ;)

But "Your Disco Needs You" is an anthem. How can a Kylie fan not love this? - It's an anthem of a whole generation of LGTBQ+

                    • I couldn't predict 'Your Disco' here, because your music taste is opposite to me. It's my second favourite Kylie's song after "Tears On Pillow". Sadly there is no place for her classic retro hits, but you included "Flower" and "Your Disco" in top 10, so possibly I will see other (third and last) personal favourite from 21st century.

Prediction : "Can't Get Out of My Head" at # 1
My celebrity crushes : Monika Sedziuviene, Kristina Ivanova (YVA).
In my head I like to imagine LastDreamer in the land of Lithuania right now with a suitcase of simcards, a box of chocolates and a wedding ring. It would be a great base for an epic Eurovision fan fiction.

                          • "Your Disco Needs You" is awesome, campy, catchy, fun (it would made my top 20 for sure).
Whereas I just not really into "Dancing" even after some time passed, the only thing I truly liked about it was the emerald green backdrop in the music video.

Brilliant! That album's the perfect soundtrack for occasions like a posh dinner party.

Phew, relieved to hear you're not crazy about "Better Than Today" either.

It was back in 2011, so my list would look somewhat different now (especially since she's dropped some incredibly enjoyable material since then), but my Top 10 at the time:

                              01. "Please Stay"
                              02. "Your Disco Needs You"
                              03. "What Do I Have To Do"
                              04. "Spinning Around"
                              05. "On A Night Like This"
                              06. "Shocked (DNA Mix)"
                              07. "Confide In Me"
                              08. "Love At First Sight"
                              09. "Got To Be Certain"
                              10. "Tightrope"

I'd probably replace "Tightrope" with "The One" (which I had at No. 11) or "All The Lovers" (No. 14), and bump LAFS up a little. I do love Light Years, but having it occupy 4 of my Top 5 was a bit much/imbalanced in retrospect, since I consider Fever my favorite album of hers overall. Thanks for asking!

                              • It seemed like Golden got a bad rap around UKMIX, with a lot of users quick to dismiss/deride the country influence, but I found it really satisfying and packed with heavenly country-pop fusions! Other popstars' recent dabbling in more rock and country-tinged material hasn't worked quite as well for me, but Golden hit me as hard as Kylie's material often has in the past, while still sounding different from anything that she'd tried before. It became my most-played album of 2018 by a sizable margin. The "Dancing" lyrics feel pretty relevant at this point in my life (not that I'm close to death or anything but 30 is kind of a big milestone that makes you reflect on where you've been and where you're headed).
                              • Absolutely THRILLED to see "Your Disco..." inside your Top 5! Although several of Kylie's songs could arguably be considered "gay anthems," I don't think any of them fit the bill better than this disco/pop gem. It does such a brilliant job of leaving you feeling empowered and ready to dance, dance, dance (through all of this...) The fabulous "Casino Radio Mix" was one of the main reasons I sought out the UK Tour Edition of Light Years.

                              • Lately I am falling in love again with her, actually don't know why, she has never been on the top of my chart for long time (but Get Outta My Way and Timebomb) and I always got bored of her very fast. After watching some of her interviews and live shows, I really got impressed by her being so down to Earth and really really nice person with lovey attitude.

Speaking of Timebomb, I really think it's one of the best thing she's ever recorded (and yes I hate with passion Especially for You and I Should Be Lucky, hope non of them are yet to come lol). On A Night like this is fab too! According to my Last.fm, Timebomb is the most played track, with Cupid Boy and Get Outta My Way next.

That's a lovely predicition and very reasonable. I mean, it's one of her biggest hits and somehow defined pop music that year. Let's see if you are correct in the end ;)

I'm surprised to see "Radio On" being so high. That's a huge achievement for an album track from a record which isn't that well-received amongst diehard Kylie fans.

Personally, I think that the country elements are the core of the song ;)

Yeah, "Your Disco Needs You" has aged terribly. Nonetheless, it's an iconic classic and I still enjoy it a lot ;)

Whereas I just not really into "Dancing" even after some time passed, the only thing I truly liked about it was the emerald green backdrop in the music video.
I'm glad that "Your Disco Needs You" is part of your favourite Kylie singles as well. Top 20 is an achievement as well ;)

"Dancing" isn't bad, but I wanted more oomph from it. Probably a case of sky high expectations.

"Better Than Today" is a catchy tune and I do like listening to it but it has never been single material. It killed the era :(

Oh, I wasn't even a member of this forum back in 2011. Thank you for (re)posting your Top 10.
"Please Stay" is a very unusual choice! - I like it, though! I discovered the track because it was part of a Polish compilation titled "Popcorn" back in 2001. I played it quite often without knowing that it was Kylie, haha.

I'm glad that your #2 and #5 have already appeared on my countdown ;)

"The One" is a great track, I would place it higher than "Tightrope" as well. "Light Years" was an excellent album and it's definitely not a crime in the Kylie universe to worship these singles that much

I agree! "Golden" was so refreshing and helped Kylie getting back on track. She was so lost with "Kiss Me Once" which was mediocre and basic as hell (minus very few tracks) but "Golden" was instant yet different and enriched Kylie's discography by adding a new sound.
OMG!!!!!! I feel you! I am about to turn 27 later this week and I'm already "afraid" of getting closer to that 30 milestone. It makes you reflect on your life (not thinking about death or anything).

Hehe, truth told. Kylie does have a few gay anthems under her belt but personally, I think that "Your Disco Needs You" is like the gayest of them all. It's fun, iconic, instant, joyful and a bit shady. I love everything about it!

I need to check out the Casino Radio Mix, though.

Are you sure that her Glastonbury performance didn't cause your desire to listen to her again? - It made me think of her career again and appreciate her artistry. She has so many hits under her belt! What an icon! - I'm glad you're falling in love with her again. She's such a sweetheart and deserves to be loved xd

Yes! Finally someone who agrees on me that "Timebomb" is an excellent pop track.

"Cupid Boy" is my favourite album track on "Aphrodite" (together with "Closer"). I'm glad we can agree on Kylie! That's awesome!

At first, I was a bit disappointed as well because I was expecting Kylie's comeback to be lead by a "disco pop" anthem but in the end, I think that "Dancing" was the perfect choice. More oomph would have probably killed off the uplifting vibe and her "let's reflect on live" attitude. I wouldn't mind her to create another "X", though, to provide us with some more oomph-driven innovative tracks, though.

A Kylie Top countdown wouldn't feel right without "Where The Wild Roses Grow" making the cut. Even though the song itself doesn't appear on any studio album by Kylie, it's an essential masterpiece and part of her artistry and career + it is part of all her best of albums. Even though one might argue that it sounds more like a Nick Cave adn the Bad Seeds song, one should keep in mind that Nick wrote the song with Kylie in mind and Kylie's vocal tone perfectly fits the errie yet hauntingly beautiful sound of the song. The strings, the bells and how the dialogue tells the story of a killer meeting his victims gets the every time.

Brilliant music video, especially when Nick places a perfect rose into Kylie's mouth!

We've finally reached the Top 3 and I think it's a very perfect way to kick it off with "Slow" which is - according to Kylie herself - her favourite song of her entire career and I can see why: It's timeless whilst being inspired by the synthpop sound of the 80s. I admire the minimalist production which provides Kylie the opportunity to shine. She sounds incredibly seductive on this track and is somehow flirting with the listener. It's a captivating as hell: The pulsating beat at the beginning already makes you dive into the song.
