  • Big 6 Divas - My Top 100 Singles [86]

Hello there! Coming soon is my countdown of Top 100 Singles by the Big 5 Divas! I have also included Kylie to add some spice and appeal to more of you.

This will start soon, and I promise I will actually see this one through (not my like Year End Charts and my Aaliyah chart!)

I am really looking forward to this, especially because of Madonna, Janet and Kylie (surprised you include her, I thought you don't like her at all).
I am not trying to seduce you... Would you like me to seduce you? Is that what you're trying to tell me?

      Thank you!

I have no problem with Kylie and I think she's a legend. A lot of her music isn't my cup of tea but there's a few sparkly gems in her discography!

It's so hard cutting my list down to 100. I have about 30 extra songs

                      What to expect:

                      - obviously Janet Jackson has the advantage here, and will appear the most. But I have tried to be as varied as possible.
                      - I will only include singles. There may be one or two promo singles or limited releases, but generally, every song in this countdown received a global release and a music video.
                      - Collaborations and features will be included.
                      - For Mariah Carey, some of her remixes will be listed separately
                      - Some of you may have seen this post before I’ve edited it, but I have now decided that I will include any song as long as it was released as a single in some form in any country

                      What not to expect:

                      - I tend to prefer lesser known singles, so don't expect too many big hits and signature songs (as you'll see in the Bubbling Under)

I already wanna edit! It's so hard.

Here's some quick thoughts on my bubbling under:

Frozen - the intro on the album version is so haunting and one of the best pieces of music from any of these women. As for the full song, it's so well produced, but it can get a little boring and I get put off when I think something is so overrated by other people

100% - I absolutely adored this when it came out 9 years ago. It was better than anything on Memoirs and such a moving mid-tempo. I overused it so it lost its appeal over the years, but I just listened to it after a while and I love it all over again

Make It Happen - I really like the verses of this song and it has that funky early 90s vibe

Say Somethin' - quite a unique song in Mariah's discography, but it's fun and sexy

                            Especially For You
                            - the chorus is so lovely

                            True Blue
                            - it's cheesy but I've always had a soft spot for it. I have very early childhood memories of this song because I can vividly recall the blue video

Sexercize - I loved this when it came out! It's so slutty and was a good confidence booster. It's got a bit dull over time though.

Give Me Just a Little More Time - everything about this scream early 90s, in the most fantastic way! One of my favourite songs from her early days.

I Should Be So Lucky - I probably listen to/like this less than the songs preceding it, but it's such a fun classic!

Open Your Heart - for many, many years, I never really liked this and so I overlooked it. However, quite recently, I've begun to appreciate it, especially the pre-chorus. It has that sweet but sassy 80s vibe, similar to 80s Janet.

Taking Chances - I remember her performing it on 'The X Factor' in 2007, and I found it really catchy. It's quite an edgier sound for Celine so if she has any more songs like this, feel free to recommend them.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody - I know it's probably one of the biggest classics from any female artist ever, and I like it, especially when it comes on in a club. But at this point, it's a song I happily listen to but I never choose to listen to it intentionally.

It's All Coming Back To Me Now - I wanted to put this top 100 because I need more Celine in there but it just missed out. Again, I like the dramatic instrumentation here and it builds throughout.

Greatest Love of All - this used to be one of my favourite Whitney songs, especially the chorus. These days, it's a bit too cutesy for me.

I Will Always Love You - well, I said a lot of signature hits wouldn't be top 100! I am sometimes so sick of this song and its overexposure, even 26 years after release, but if I ignore all of that, I remember that it's an amazing ballad.

Get Your Number - hasn't aged very well but still a cool song. The video is really sexy.

I Learned From The Best - a nice little number with a good build-up.

Vogue - another song I consider to be hugely overrated but I cannot deny how cool and timeless it is. Again, I have very early memories of the song and video, so it's a part of my life.

Million Dollar Bill - I didn't like 'I Look To You' but this was a great comeback single, and I'm pleased it did so well for her. Weirdly, I have never added it to my music library, but I love randomly hearing it in bars.

Can't Let Go - sometimes it's a little too breathy for me, but I like it.

You Want This - the only Janet song in my bubbling under! It took a while to grow on me but now I appreciate it's fun, sexy tone.

Hollywood - I really liked this when it was released and I was surprised when it kinda flopped. This is one of my favourite Maddy songs from the 00s.

Run To You - a perfect Whitney ballad!

H.A.T.E. U - I was obsessed with this when I first heard it! I thought it was so unique and experimental. Then the video came out and it really killed the song for me. I know I shouldn't let a tragic video affect the song, but it's hard to dissociate the two sometimes. She also gave some weak performances of it, and it was edited down for radio. So all the initial excitement over this song was reduced. I still like it, but it could have been so much more.

Who's That Girl - this is often overlooked by Maddy fans, despite being a translantic #1. That may be why I support it more.

For the songs which are lucky enough to be Top 100, I'll write commentary for them as I post.

I've decided to include promo singles and limited releases, so I'll add those into my top 100 and post the rest of the bubbling under later.

Oh my. I'll try to go along song by song.

Frozen - agree that it's grossly overrated, as is it's parent album overall, but it's still super low. I'm not as put off by others overrating a song, I guess.

100% - is a bit lifeless for a song that's supposed to be inspirational, but I guess that 'emptiness' is down to it being underproduced.

Make It Happen - I'm okay with it being so low. It has elements of greatness, but doesn't manage to put it all together.

                                Say Somethin' - bleh.

                                True Blue - a gem!

Sexercize - fun, but I overplayed it.

I Should Be So Lucky - okay.

                                Open Your Heart - earnest!

                                Taking Chances - decent.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody - this is supposed to be my first dance song at my wedding. It's one of my favourite tracks ever.

It's All Coming Back to Me Now - one of the finest power ballads ever.

Greatest Love of All - great message and vocals.

I Will Always Love You - no words for this being so low. Just wow!

                                Get Your Number - meh.

I Learned from the Best - so you sack my favourite Whitney Houston song, and my second favourite Whitney Houston song in the bubbling under batch. Cute.

Vogue - and now one of the quintessential gay anthems.

Million Dollar Bill - this has grown on me over the years.

Can't Let Go - gets lost in Mimi's catalogue of excellence, but is still pretty good.

You Want This - not even close to her best.

Hollywood - I like the VMA performance.

Run to You - deserves more attention.

H.A.T.E.U. - a different sound for Mimi. I like it, but it's pretty 'high' here.

Who's That Girl - good stuff.

Frozen - One of Madonna's best songs. Should be way higher.

100% - Love it. Great lyrics.

Make It Happen - Again: great lyrics. Mariah is brilliant at writing a good lyric.

Say Somethin' - Don't like this one, though I do love the dance mix.

Especially For You - I've sung this one so often with my sister. Heard it a bit too much.

True Blue - One of my all time favorite Madonna songs. There are hardly other pop songs that sound like this at all.

Sexercize - Erased it from my mind.

Give Me Just a Little More Time - Boring. Doesn't flow.

I Should Be So Lucky - Such a fun song.

Open Your Heart - A typical Madonna record from the 80s. Love the video.

Taking Chances - I love Celine and I love the Eurythmics, but this one does nothing for me.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody - I loved this song so much back in the day. Bought the 12" to enjoy it even more and it was on radio and tv all the time. I heard it so often, there was a point I didn't really care for it anymore. But over the last year I've grown to love it again.

It's All Coming Back To Me Now - I love the drama Steinman can put into a song. This combined with Celine's voice make it one of her best songs ever.

Greatest Love of All - A classic. Great message.

I Will Always Love You - Such a brilliant intro and such a nice way to always remember us the stunning voice of Whitney. Heard it too often though, so although I do love it, it's not a song I play that often.

Get Your Number - I loved it when it just came out. Great sample.

I Learned From The Best - Love the lyric. One of Whitney's best later ballads.

Vogue - This is my jam. Can't help but striking a pose when this comes on. Best video ever. And don't forget the MTV-awards performance.

Million Dollar Bill - One of the best songs from Whitney's last album.

Can't Let Go - Such a stunning song. Mariah at her best.

You Want This - Never really liked this one.

Hollywood - Love it. Madonna has the most catchy songs ever. No one writes catchy tracks like her.

Run To You - Such a beautiful ballad. Started to appreciate it even more when Glennis Grace sang it at America's Got Talent last year.

H.A.T.E. U - Mariah has so many amazing songs. This is defenitely one of them.

Who's That Girl - Really like this one. Bit in the vein of La Isla Bonita that is even better.

I Don't - I know, probably quite a shocking entry, especially when you'll realise which songs didn't make it! But this has grown on me a lot since it was released 2 years ago. The sample is so good. When it was released, I was not enjoying life, and listening to this song takes me back to that time (I spent a lot of time on UKMIX during that period). While you may think that's a bad thing, I see it differently. Listening to this song reminds me how I've turned things around and tbh, any song which can evoke such vivid memories for me is much more meaningful than one which doesn't have that power.

Exhale (Shoop Shoop) - a pretty ballad. It's very smooth, but is also lacking something. I adore the Waiting To Exhale soundtrack, but this song is a bit bland compared to a lot of the songs on there.

You Give Good Love - this is nice to listen to.

Thank God I Found You - this was hard to rank because sometimes I really like it and it could potentially be higher. But it has to sttle for just missing my top 100 this time around. It's not that popular nor remembered among lambs and casuals alike, which may be why I like it more than some of her other #1 singles and other ballads. It's cute.

                                        Don't Forget About Us
                                        - nice

I Don't - I love this song. Good to see it on your list.

Exhale (Shoop Shoop) - Love the lyrics. Great mid tempo track.

You Give Good Love - Love early Whitney. Her debut is one of the best ever.

Thank God I Found You - It's an okay song. I like it, but it's far from Mariah's best.

Don't Forget About Us - I prefer TGIFY over this one.
