KHALID
LIL NAS X
LIZZO
MARIAH CAREY
POST MALONE

History:

First time in this category for Khalid, Lil Nas X and Lizzo. Only Khalid had a previous nomination for this awards, back in 2017 for Best New Artist but lost to Dua Lipa.
Both Mariah and Post Malone were candidates last year for this award, which Mimi took home! Will she repeat the achievement?

History:

First time again for Lil Nas X and Lizzo, and also for Billy Ray Cyrus, Ty Dolla $ign and Mariah Carey!
So Post Malone is the only artist repeating nomination in this field. Interesting that he was finalist both in 2017 and 2018 with the same song (Rockstar) but eventually lost to Rihanna's Love on the Brain and Bruno Mars & Cardi B's Finesse. Will this be his time?

POST MALONE - HOLLYWOOD'S BLEEDING

History:

First time once again for Lil Nas X and Lizzo, but also for Emeli Sandé.
Post Malone was a nominee last year with Beerbongs & Bentleys but eventually lost to no other than Mariah Carey's Caution! So will Mimi repeat the same award with the same album or she'll give space por some competition?

Elton John is definetly the biggest surprise here, his nomination fueled by Rocketman pushing some of his songs inside the top300!
First nominations for Foals, Kodaline and Tool. Harry, on the other hand, not only was nominated here in 2017 but also won the award!

I wouldn't say Harry is alt-rock anymore. He was on the first album. This album is more or less a pop album, albeit a diverse one. He probably can't be pigeon-holed. The third album will be something else again! (hang on, that's the definition of alternative )

Don't get me started on Kodaline...

Yay Wild Roses.

I spend some time debating this alone in my livingroom lol

What I do to decide someone's genre, which I think it is harder and harder to define and that's good, but for dun reasons I still like to "label" songs/artists, is first to write "Harry Styles genre" in google and see what comes up. In this case: Pop, Britpop, soft Rock and Rock. As it was a tie I went to Wikipedia, where the album is classified as Pop, PopRock and Rock... so another tie, so I just decided to stick him in the Rock world...

Kodaline was easier, although I can see your point of view. In google it says: Indie Folk , Indi Pop, Indie Rock and Alt Rock. So 3 out of 4 classifications were linked to the Alt-Rock category.

Kodaline and The Script are just - to me - fake rock bands. Quite why Radio X used to playlist them is beyond me. Though The Script seem to have been banished to Pop like Maroon 5 now.

Alan Walker is also new in the Album category, but he has had three precious noms: 2016 Dance Artist, 2016 Dance Song (Faded) and 2017 Dance Artist.
Chainsmokers have a LONG history of nominations: 22 between 2016 and 2018!Unfortunately, they only won 1: 2016 Dance Artist. They competed in 2016/17/18 for Best Dance Album, with both Collage EP and Memories.
Clean Bandit won this award last year with What Is Love? so they'll try to repeat the win with the same album!

All newcomers in this category except Jason Aldean, who gets his 4th consecutive nomination in a row, meaing he has been nominated all years in which this category has been active. He lost all three times: 2016 vs Carrie Underwood, 2017 vs Sam Hunt and 2018 vs Kacey Musrgaves.

BLAKE SHELTON - GOD'S COUNTRY

First time here for all except, once again, Jason. He was a finalist in 2016 with They Don't Know and again in 2017 with the same album, but in that case he took home the award. In 2018 he was a finalist with Rearview Town and this year is nominee once again, so maybe second times give him luck!

History:
We weolcome back this category as in 2018 there were not 5 recurrent hits amongst the top300. For a song to be Re-Current it should have been released more than 5 years prior to the year in course.
We only had this category in 2016 with names such as Amy Studt, Scott Walker, Nena and the winner Prince, and in 2017 with Paul Simon, Zac Brown Band, Scott Walker (again) and the winner Geri Haliwell.
All nominees this year are newcomers in this category!

I'm confused. Is this a Personal Chart or a Game? Shouldn't it be in Games or Year-End Personal Charts? Are people already voting in this? Is it based on UKMix Parade's YE list? If so, Kacey Musgraves had more hits than any other country act, didn't she?

It's based on CZB's "UkmixPARADE Year-End chart" (see opening post).
It's not a game per se. When all the categories are unveiled the voting starts. Here is the 2018 edition.
I'd rather have this thread in the General Music Discussion forum but I will not oppose to Leo's decision to have it in Personal Charts.
I believe the first five artists of each genre that appear highest in the Top 200 get a nomination.

Some great nominations so far! I‘ll definitely vote!

Though I‘m also surprised Maren got no nominations at all, also not for her album...

trebor explained quite well but here are my insights:

- for the last 5 years, once the YEC of UKmixPARADE is presented, I prepare the nominations for this awards. Then members vote and winners are annoucned. It is like a People's Choice Awards but based on UKmixPARADE.

- For Songs categories: I assign a genre to each song and nominations are the 5 best ranked songs of each genre in the YEC.

- For Albums, I check to which album each song belongs and then do a special rank of albums. i.e. Madame X points are the result of points awarded to all songs that belong to the album (Medellin, God Control, etc). Then I come up with noms following the same rule as songs, top 5 of each genre.

- For Artists there are some adjustments. If a song is performed by a solo artist, 100% points go to that artist. If it is a feat, 75% goes to lead artist and 25% goes to feat, and that is divided equally amongst all feats. i.e if there is A feat. B & C, A gets 75%, B 12.5% and C 12.5%. Then I sum up points of each artist, generate the rank and again noms are the top 5 artists per genre.

- There are special categories: Collab, Re-Current, Song for Movie. In those cases it is the top 5 songs ranked in the YEC chart that stick to the category.

- Then there'll be some general categories: Female, Male, Group, New Artist, Song, Album and Artist of the year. All top 5 in the respective chart that stick to the criteria of the field.

PRevious years I presented this thread in the General Music forum, so we were aligned with trebor there. This year I thought it made sense to put it in Personal chart as it is where UKmixPARADE is... IT may get more visibility if members only coming to the Personal Chart see this awards. But trebor, as a mod I am 100% ok with any decision being made! Just let me know through PM so I don't feel the thread was deleted...

People still cannot vote as some categories are pending to be announced. Yesterday it was late. Today I'll try to post all and then update the VOTING BALLOT so people can start sending their choices. I've had 21 votes last year, and 2 years before that around 31. Then I present winners in a special ceremony. You can search previous ceremonies in the General Music thread!

Regarding Country, as trebor said, there is no Marren or Kacey because in the YEC their songs are not popular. Instead of that, Jason Aldean, Logan, Blake, etc are the top aritsts/albums/songs!

I think it makes sense in this section since it comes from people who have participated in this part of the forum, but if you wanted outside voters, general music might get some extra voters?

Also didn't realize the amount of work it took to come up with the noms?
