Hall of Fame induction: David Bowie (2015)



Lazarus

David Bowie died on January 10th 2016. His music, however, could never die. David Bowie became the third artist to be inducted into my very own Hall of Fame (established 2013). He has now joining Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. He is the first Brit to be inducted. From the dark ages of my personal chart (1999/2000) to the MPSA (2004-2014) and the MSSA (2015-), his music has always been present. It has shaped music as an artform, it has created trends and built the paths many artists are walking on today. For his creative achievements, but also for his achievements in the Pre MPSA era, MPSA era and MSSA, David Bowie has been given the biggest honor I could possibly award: A spot in my Hall of Fame. His entry preceeds the 2015 inductions.

The cause for that is the relatively late creation of my Hall of Fame. Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston have shaped my existence on so many levels that I couldn't but induct them the first chance I had.

I've always liked Bowie. Thursday's Child was a top 3 song in my world in 1999. He had other songs charting too. Prior to his death Where are We Now and Heroes made the top 20 (2013, 2015). Under Pressure also charted several times (2014, 2015).

MSSA #2 of 2016

Heroes

David Bowie blasts into a very static MSSA week, which sees Mengoni dominating again. It should be noted thoug, that Bowie did not have a full week, as 100% of his airplay dates back to Monday - the day he has passed away. The new Hall of Fame inductee, Bowie, sees three of his albums re-enter the top 20, while Blackstar (song and album) made the Top 10 respectively. Bowie has also become the week's second most played artist. Le Cose Che Non Ho has now been placed at #1 for 6 consecutive weeks which gives Mengoni the longest running #1 album in the MSSA era.

At this point, it has become reductive to give Mengoni a shout out. He reclaims all three #1 positions again. Le Cose has now finished its 8th consecutive week at #1. The alltime record still belongs to TEOM with 17 weeks at the pole (10 consecutively). Céline gets the title of being this week's comeback kid. The Queen of Pop gives us another record. For the time ever, 2 non-English/German albums occupy the #1 and #2 positions. Actually the first 4 positions are occupied by four different languages: Italian, French, English and German. This has never happened before.

MSSA #5 of 2016

Change has come

Coldplay have finally left the runner-up slots. For the 3rd time during the " A Head" era, the band can return to #1 on the singles chart. UP and UP advances two positions and saw its scrobbles double this week. They previously held the #1 position with the lead single Adventure of a Lifetime which debuted at #1 in 2015 and Up&Up (2015). Sia has apparently won the debut-battle with Rihanna. Both singers have released new material, but Sia takes it away with "This is acting", debuting at #2 behind Mengoni who reigns the chart for what we now call the album's 9th consecutive week. With over 350 scrobbles in total, Up and Up has obtained a platinum certification (300 scrobbles or better), becoming their 2nd platinum certified single after Magic. The alltime list is still led by two Brandon Flowers singles, "I can Change" and "Can't Deny my Love" have each obtained a triple platinum award respectively.

At last

Coldplay finally make it to the top with "A Head Full of Stars". On the back of UP&UP and their legendary Superbowl performance Chris and co were finally able to collect the Triple this week. The album has also obtained a triple platinum certification this week for 1,500 scrobbles or better. Looking ahead, there is another storm brewing. German singer-songwriter Bosse has just released what is considered the most anticipated release of Q1, "Engtanz". The album features the #1 single "Steine". Looks like Mengoni, Riri and Sia have a shoe in too.

German singer songwriter Bosse is currently sending some major shockwaves through the MSSA database. Within 30 hours his new album "Engtanz" has amassed 160 scrobbles which would put him on course of a possible debut upwards of 730+ scrobbles by next friday. After Day 2, the German legend is on course to snatch the 2nd biggest debut ever. If he holds on, he could make it. Day 3 saw a mild decline. He is still on course of a +600 debut which would put him somewhere in the top 3. Day 4 and 5 saw him stabilize at around 100 scrobbles each.
