Kings of Leon did it again. The Nashville rockers complete what I would call one of the strongest weeks of all times by one single act. Looking at the album and singles chart, one could get the impression the band dissolved or someone just died. What started as a nice little comeback with the hit single Supersoaker - which ironically doesn't even chart this week - developed into one of the greatest comebacks in the history of my chart with Wait For Me - the chart topper of the past 3 consecutive weeks. What looked to be Celine's week was completely overshadowed by Knocked Up, the first track on their #2 debut Because of The Times. With 5 albums in the top 10 respectively, Kings of Leon become the first band to have ever achieved this feat. Over on LastFm - my charts soundscan - Kings of Leon have now placed themselves as the 22nd most successful act. In the past 7 days, they broke into 2 new thresholds by surpassing the 300 and also 400 plays barrier. Still in the weeks building up to their new album Mechanical Bull, Kings of Leon might in fact enter my alltime top 10 acts on LastFm. One of the strongest releases of the week - not KOL related - comes from John Mayer. The AA artist was the only force to even slightly compete with KOL, debuting at #1. Mayer continues his streak of consecutive #1 albums, even though the highest charting song of the album - I will be found - only debuts at #3. Mayer also advanced to #13 on my alltime LastFm acts with a real shot of entering the top 10 in the next weeks.


The only act to ever place their complete catalogue in the top 10 in a single week.

How do you calculate your midweeks?
I couldn't find it in the first post.

LIke all my chart, I look how often I played a certain song. I play my music on my notebook with the help of winamp. Winamp is my music media player. And that one has a music library and counts how often you played a song over the course of a week. It's like a play counter.

Since the majority of my music consumption is digital, winamp/lastFm is my main chart generator. But I do play music albums on my stereo system as well. For these cases I have to go by feeling.

Midweek: It's either KIngs of Leon collecting their third consecutive #1 single or Coldplay gets the Hot Shot Debut Honor this week. The fact that a new Coldplay song might indeed have trouble debuting at the top is unprecedented.

Wind of Change

Coldplay make the unthinkable, they dethrone Kings of Leon after 4 consecutive weeks at the top of the singles chart. The new single Atlas received major airplay this week. Although, in the end it was a close fight between the two major bands. Kings of Leon remain the most successful act this week with no less than 9 songs in the top 20 and 3 albums in the top 10. Because of the Times just became their 2nd #1 long-player of 2013 and their overall 4th #1 album in career total. The gigantic comeback of the Nashville rockers is so big, that they could actually enter my alltime top 10 on LastFm with their soon to be released new set of songs, due in 2 weeks.
