Straight Outta Country

America's formidable vocal judge and country icon Blake Shelton debuts at #1 on the albums chart this week. It is the first time ever that Shelton made it to the MSSA. He even took the Doubple, topping the albums and artists charts. The Lumineers remain in charge on the singles side of things. Walking on Cars are another group-debut who shook some faces pressed this week. Bowing in at #3 on the albums chart, they even overtook chart princes Mark Forster and Nick Jonas. Josef Salvat stays not far behind. Carey's Butterfly surpassed the 1,000 scrobbles mark and flew to douple platinum - her second album to do so since the inception of LastFm.

Walking On Cars take the Triple this week. The Irish Group broke loose this week and smashed. 470 scrobbles in 7 days gives their debut albums one of the biggest 7-days-scrobbles-total ever measured. Boyband Mania

The Boybands are back. The biggest force into girl's underpants since "Carefree" is back this week. The Boyband craze sees a new high with such nostalgic 90's albums as Take That, Boyzone and Backstreet Boys making a formidable comeback. Boyzone take the cake with a pretty amazing #3 debut on the artists chart. However, the biggest act of week 29 is and was Walking on Cars. The Irish legends forced themselves onto a second week atop the Triple - reigning everything from singles, to albums to artists. Another hefty 320 scrobbles in week 3 secure them a second spot on the list of the biggest one-week-totals in the history of the LastFM era. The album has since been certified double platinum for 1,000 scrobbles in total (or better). Also amazing is Phil Collins' sudden return. The R&R HoFamer sees 2 of his biggest and most legendary albums debut on the albums chart top 30. King Phil has amassed a staggering 216 scrobbles and also enters the Top 125 of the most scrobbled artists of all times.

In The Air Tonight Honoary Hall of Fame Induction

He may be the most hated musician who's ever been reviewed. He scores lower than Justin Bieber and that Ketchup Song from 14 years ago. However, Phil Collins is as legendary as one could ever dream of becoming. With close to 20 million albums sold and a staggering 30 million records sold, The Brit is the biggest selling and most impacting overall non-German recording artist in Germany. His appeal? Phil Collins is the definition of talent. He plays more music instrument than anyone could dream of learning. He writes music that comes from the heart. Music with messages. Some hits may have been bit corny. But the classics have become alltime favourites by anyone who's ever been swept away by music itself. In The Air Tonight enriched the cultural canon of humanity. Nobody knows what the song is about. It is mysterious and delightful. The drums production is the equivalent in drums to whatever Billie Jean's baseline was to R&B and Pop music. In the Air Tonight captivates the listener is a breezy state of unconscious head-banging. The synthezizer structure creates a timeless feel of not-belonging and desire. The song is truly outstanding. To its many accolades it can now add the official Hall of Fame induction with honors.

Walking on the Triple

Walking on Cars don't seem to let up. The Domination continues. However, the gap between the Irish newcomers and their competition shrinks. Can they occupy the Triple for a 4th week? German icon Laith Al-Deen returned with his new album "Bleib Unterwegs" which debuts at #4 on the albums chart with 74 scrobbles. His previous album "Was wenn alles gut geht" from 2015 has amassed 170 scrobbles so far. The biggest surprise is the still ongoing Boyband craze, with yet again a new high profile debut - but this week it comes from no other band, but Nsync. Boyzone and Hanson can also be found in the mix.

MPSA/MSSA Hall of Fame



Imagine all the people living life in peace

John Winston Lennon receives an honorary induction into the MPSA/MSSA Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements in music and for his philantrophic work as one of the world's most endearing fighters for peace. John Lennon has proven to be the world's most creative and most important recording artist in the modern era. As part of the legendary Beatles, he shaped the world of pop and rock music. As a solo recording artist he created unforgettable musical moments that are known all over the world. 36 years after his assassination, the king's wise philosophy of peace and brotherhood and sisterhood resonates within the canon of cultural human history and is still as true as it was 30-40 years ago. He taught us to stand up, to fight for what is right and served as the human kind's number one role model in the 1970's. His impact cannot be accurately rated. His hit song "Imagine" is single-handedly the most import musical output since the turn of the 20th century as it creates a perfect world without wars focusing on the unification of the world. Throughout the 1970's he's released genre defining and genre changing music which speaks to the inner core of our souls and hearts. A trail-blazer he was. An icon and an unmatched legend during his lifetime. John taught us how to love and how the road to fullfillment starts by acceptance. With his induction into the Hall of Fame, he is also awarded the MPSA Lifetime Achievement Award to emphasize his status as the most talented and greatest music artist and songwriter in history. He could get away with anything. When I first discovered him, I was fascinated by his artistic integrity and above all his timeless yet experimental sound of music. The closer I got to the person he was, the more I lost myself in him. A working class hero - maybe - my personal hero for sure. If God is a concept by which we measure our pain, I measure mine by the anger I feel over his untimely death. I believe in you, John - now, always and forever.

Mind Games

The legendary HoF inductee John Lennon dominates his week of remembrance and grabs the #1 position on the most scrobbled artists mark. The Lifetime Achievement Award holder came out of nowhere. His entire discography was on blast this week, with several of his legendary albums making the Official Top 30 Albums Chart while others just missed the threshold. Other legendary acts which return to the charts are: The Who, The Beatles and of course The Smitjs. Walking on Cars, however, remain unbeatable on the singles and albums chart.
