Merry Christmas is on your album chart? Why are you listening to Christmas music in July?

Why is Christmas music charting in July? As you might know, I am living in Germany - in the very North to be exact - and our weather here has been anything but summer-like. Over the past 2,5 weeks, it was incredibly stormy and cold and rainy. The minimum temperature at night was 8° Celsius, the maximum temperature was between 14,5°C - 17,5°C - also very autumn-like.

The sun has not been seen for about 3 weeks now, thick, rainy clouds covering the sky.

In that weather, I cannot pretend that it is actually summer here. It is literally November-weather. I have also put some of my christmas decoration on display as well.

I don't want to break it to you and to all of the world, but climate change really is a hoax. We have suffered the coldest MAY in the history of our weather data earlier in the year. June was kind of OK, but July has been a nightmare so far. I know that the rest of Central Europe and especially also South and East Germany suffered from a heat wave earlier in the month with up to 40°C, but nothing of that came to my region. NOTHING.

I have therefore cancelled summer and will continue to plug Christmas music from here on out.

Orion is the name of their newest album which debuted at #6 on the MSSA Albums chart. After spending the initial first 3 weeks in the top 10 the album dropped to #16 in week 4. It seems like they will be back in the Top 10, according to the midweek chart. Orion has obtained a Gold Award certification today, for surpassing 250 plays. They previously obtained a Gold Award for their 2015 album VHS.

MPSA Music Hall of Fame 2019

The triple year

UKMIX had a good 2 years to decide on which artist to induct next into the Most Played Songs & Albums Music Hall of Fame. Three legends made the cut.

Let's celebrate the greatness of these incredible and outstanding legends in music!


Tina Turner, inductee 2019

It's hard enough to be a woman in this world. It's harder when you are a woman of colour. And it is the hardest thing when you try to succeed in a business which was run by white old men. Nobody has won more hearts from her audience than the legendary Tina Turner. But it was a struggle and a long journey too.

Tina did not live a fairytale life. She had to fight for everything that she has. When she fled from a destructive marriage as a battered woman - she left with only pennies in her pocket, but the determination to fight back. As it so often happens, Tina's solo career was not welcomed by the music industry, especially since she wasn't holding anything back. We knew her story. It had inspired us. But the public's mind is fickle. It tends to forget and wash the news down with contempt.

When she released her legendary albums "Private Dancer" in 1984 the GP took notice again. A shy listen turned into a repeat. Her story was re-told. The constraints of how a female rock singer "should" sound like, should look like were thrown overboard in an enthusiastically general swift. Listening to her again after all these years, seeing her giving her all on stage felt familiar, yes it felt like... coming home. Nobody likes to close their front doors on raw quality and the greatest female rock voice that has ever lived. And suddenly Tina found herself back in the spotlight, stronger than ever.

Over the years Tina Turner - already above 40 at the time of her comeback - continued to build her career on incredible performances all around the world, with timeless music. Her stamina, her voice, her looks, her presence became the fabric of her legacy. She now resides in Switzerland, has re-married and retired from the stage. At the age of 79 she is allowed to reflect on her life and find refuge in her privacy. She has given the world an inspiring story of perseverance, and the all around entertainment to back it up. We don't need another Hero, all we need is you, Tina!
