MSSA #17 of 2015

Missy doesn't miss #1

Missy Elliott is the comeback artist of the week. The Queen of Urban/Rap/Hip/Hop is back at #1 only that it is her first time at #1 on my albums chart. Her hits compilation is the package to have and spawned several singles entries. The BIG two however, remain untouched in the top 2: Flowers continues to collect consecutive #1 positions with CDML which has now finished its 5th consecutive week at the summit, while Florence strangely couldn't place her 3 previous smash hits, but debuts at #2 with yet another early leak of her soon to be smashing album. Urban Hymns by the legendary The Verve makes huge impact as well, debuting at #2. It is their third overall release to make the top 10 since 2004, as Forth was a huge hit in its original year of release.

I know everybody is on their heels waiting for a forecast of my chart. Is Mariah's new single Infinity going to dethrone Brandon Flowers? Or is Brandon himself, dethroning Brandon? One thing is for sure, only two new songs are on fire this week. The nominees for #1 song of the week are in fact Mariah Carey's Infinity and Brandon's smash in the waiting Lonely Town. With a head start of 1 day Mariah is currently in the lead, but Brandon is gaining more plays than Her right now. Both songs could set a new debut record as the current one for this year stands at 182 spins - set by Can't Deny My Love.

Brandon Flowers is making headlines by breaking into the top 20 of the most Played Artists Of All Times. With his much anticipated new album The Desired Effect, Flowers is believed to rack up the highest ever recorded one week opening during the LastFM era. If the three singles are any indication for the album's fate on the chart, then it could indeed become the first album to enter with 1,000 Scrobbles or better. However, it is still a long way until the release in mid May. So far Flowers collected monstrous singles success. Can't Deny My Love set the record for the biggest opening of 2015 with 182 plays. Its consistent charting at #1 for five consecutive weeks has made the song the biggest single of all times during the LastFM era with 659 Scrobbles (150 plays more than its closest Rival: Robbie Williams' Bullet which sits at #2 with 509 plays). Still want you, the album's second single to debut on the MSSA Chart, peaked at #2 and has amassed 102 plays in its own right. However, it is Lonely Town, the album's third and new single which seems to impact even harder with 78 scrobbles in merely 24 hours. Flowers is no newcomer on the charts. His debut album Flamingo (2010) became the 2nd most successful album of the Most Played Songs and Albums Chart (MPSA) - The decade 2010-today! Flamingo has reached 333 plays during the LastFM era (2011-).

The Queen is defeated, Long live the King!

Brandon Flowers does the unthinkable. He denies a brand new Mariah Carey song to debut at #1. This is definately a first and noteworthy. Also noteworthy is that the #1 song of the week Lonely Town established a new YTD record for the highest number of scrobbles in one week for a single with 215 plays. Again noteworthy is the battle it took to defeat Mariah. Mariah herself, amassed the second highest overall debut total with 201 plays. On the albums chart, Joris takes it away with yet another groundbreaking German language album. It is the overall second album of German language to debut at #1 in 2015. Blur and Josh Groban debut in the top 5 with their new albums, however, they only had 1 day worth of airplay.
