Flowers does it again
One week before the much anticipated release of Brandon Flowers' new album The Desired Effect, the Las Vegas crooner continues to dominate the singles chart. Lonely Town only lost 7 spins in comparison to last week and grabs the record for the second highest number of spins, pushing Infinity's debut number of last week down to #3 on the YTD records list. However, his new single I Can Change isn't much less legendary, bowing in at #2 with an outstanding 163 scrobbles in its own rights. Over on the album's chart, Mumford & Sons grab their third career #1 album with Wilder Mind while Josh Groban and Blur more than doubled their debuting numbers in week 2. At this time next week, The Desired Effect will be upon us and if Brandon's current success is any indication, this album will become the most scrobbled album during a 7 days rolling period, establishing unheard-of records along the way.

Brandon Flowers completes the unthinkable. Due to an early leak his new album The Desired Effect debuts straight at #1 on the chart with only 1 day worth of airplay. However, the leak has now robbed him the chance to amass the biggest ever debut of all times. The Desired Effect is expected to reach 1,000 scrobbles in its full first week. On the singles chart, Brandon collects his third consecutive #1 single with I Can Change, a song which now ranks 20th as the most scrobbled single of all times. His previous two #1 singles: Can't Deny My Love and Lonely Town rank first and third respectively on the alltime chart. The last time someone amassed equally outstanding numbers was when Alicia Keys ruled with The Element of Freedom, which spawned no less than 4 #1 singles to date.

Brandon Flowers is the epitome of charts slayer. In his second week he amassed 791 scrobbles for his album The Desired Domination, which sets a new record for highest ever measured amount of plays for a single album in a single week. Not only does his album smash on all compartments with unheard-of ease, he also takes home all of the top 11 singles positions with his songs, making him the first artist on the new chart to ever achieve this feat. Mariah has to settle for #2. The Chanteuse released a new compilation album which did create some shock waves. Two hundred scrobbles is a good result for that release. Lena Meyer Landrut bows in at #3. The German ESC winner from 2010 falls shy of overtaking Mariah. However, she did not have a full week of airplay. So all eyes will be placed on her. Can she dethrone Brandon Flowers next week?

I like several songs from the Brandon Flowers album. 791 plays for one album in a week isn't really all that high; my record is 1,435 (I DO listen basically non stop when I'm not sleeping or watching TV/movies). Been almost two years since one artist had my entire top 10 though.Comment
