The number of acts who reached 100 or more plays since 2011 reached 64 and has increased by a lovely pair of 2. As of this week Michael Bublé can call himself a member of the elite group as his christmas extravaganza brought his plays up to 105. The other one is Beyoncé. Her surprise album release amassed 46 plays so far, lifting her total to 106 - and this is just the beginning. The album is heading for the +100 spins debut - or more! Her self-titled 5th studio album also is her first album which was released during my LastFm era. Her previous release "4" missed the LastFm era by 4 months and was pretty much a cold dead fish my the time of the inauguration.
In celebration of Beyoncé's success - the queen of R&B also leads the Midweek singles and albums chart as of this afternoon, here are the biggest albums by a female artist of 2013 - LastFM YTD chart:
1. Devotion - 340 plays - Jessie Ware*
2. Avril Lavigne - 234 plays - Avril Lavigne
3. Prism - 177 plays - Katy Perry
4. Loved Me Back To Life - 173 plays - Celine Dion
5. Girl On Fire - 171 plays - Alicia Keys*
6. Artpop - 169 plays - Lady Gaga
7. The Spirit Indestructible - 94 plays - Nelly Furtado*
8. Live From The Royal Albert Hall - 87 plays - Emeli Sandé
9. MDNA World Tour - 66 plays - Madonna
10. Britney Jean - 50 plays - Britney Spears
--
13. Beyoncé - 46 plays - BEYONCÉ [1 day airplay]
Katy's sum doesn't contain the majority of spins of her 2 major hits this year as Roar and Walking on Air's plays are credited to the respected singles. Otherwise, Prism would have reached close to Devotion's sum. [Same for Celine, Avril and Lady Gaga].
3.(7) Eminem ft. Rihanna - The Monster
6.(new) Britney Spears - Perfume
9.(4) Mariah Carey - The Art of Letting Go
15.(12) Placebo - Special Needs
17.(new) Britney Spears ft. Will.I.Am - It Should Be Easy
Albums:
4.(7) Britney Spears - Britney Jean
8.(8) One Direction - Midnight Memories
9.(new) Pink Floyd - The Wall
Great re-entry for one of the best albums ever: The Wall!!!
Midweek: As Beyoncé shoots past the 100+ plays barrier on LastFm with her new self-titled 5th studio album, let's see where the individual singles would rank, would the tracking week end today.
01 NE Beyoncé - XO
02 NE Beyoncé - Pretty Hurts
03 NE Beyoncé - Jealous
04 01 Naughty Boy & Emely Sandé - Lifted
05 02 Naughty Boy & Emeli Sandé - Pluto
06 NE Beyoncé - Heaven
07 RE Kings of Leon - Knocked Up
08 05 Eminem - Bad Guy
09 NE Robbie Williams & Jonathan Wilkes - You Got Old
10 06 Britney Spears - Perfume
It is the first time ever for Beyoncé to lead an album and individual tracks to complete domination. The only question is: Can she keep the momentum up? After 3 days of airplay, XO received as many plays as last week's #2. XO is on track to follow in Lifted's footsteos and debut with well over 100 plays in the first week.
Britney finally joins her Dance-Pop Contemporaries by hitting 100+ plays now on LastFm.
Where do UKMIX' fave Dance + Pop Girls rank on my LastFm?
01 - 996 plays - Madonna
02 - 865 plays - Nelly Furtado
03 - 490 plays - Nicki Minaj
04 - 382 plays - Lady Gaga
05 - 379 plays - Katy Perry
06 - 349 plays - Lana Del Rey
07 - 346 plays - Avril Lavigne
08 - 237 plays - Rihanna
09 - 181 plays - Christina
10 - 123 plays - Leona Lewis
11 - 105 plays - Britney Spears
12 - 54 plays - Sia
13 - 49 plays - Kelly Clarkson
14 - 30 plays - Lorde
15 - 30 plays - Lykke Li
If my chart was a country, it would see a tremendous 20% decline in 2013 in comparison to last year. 2012 releases averaged higher amounts of plays than this year. Reasons for the decline do not uncover easily. The amount of major releases between 2012 and 2013 stayed stable, only the faces changed. While The Killers, Nelly Furtado and Robbie Williams ruled the airwaves in 2012, Mariah Carey, Kings of Leon, Timberlake and of course Robbie Williams delivered major releases in 2013. It's the basis which suffered majorly in the past 12 months, a fact the market is now about to correct. New releases by Eminem, Gaga, Celine Dion, One Direction, Beyoncé, Imagine Dragons and Matt Cardle were able to re-build the basis. The market turned back to green numbers in September and continues to shed 4th quarter records. After half a month, it's on December to ease the overall market decline - a feat almost certain to happen.

Beyoncé's surprising new self titled album turns December market to new glory with a + 200 plays debut and therefore enters the chart at #1 this week. The album marks Beyoncé's third #1 album on the chart after Sasha Fierce (2008) and 4/Four (2011). 200+ plays in one week for one album or for one artist in general is almost unheard-of. Only a handful of artists achieved this milestone in the past - among them Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams and Kings of Leon. Therefore, Beyoncé is in huge parts responsible for an overall growing December market which was down by almost 10% in comparison to 2012 before the release. The excitement doesn't end there. Beyoncé also smashed the singles chart and holds 4 out of the top 5 positions this week. XO becomes one of the year's biggest debuts too - with 153 plays in the first week. In the second to last week of 2013 some major acts show healthy stability and increases. Britney Jean is surprisingly strong and pushes even Swings Both Ways out of the top three, while MMLP2 is back in the runner-up position. Last week's #1 Hotel Cabana drops out of the Top 10. That's the price you have to pay when only two songs get significant airplay. However, Lifted has also broken the +100 plays barrier YTD.

Yay for Britney crossing the one hundred plays plateau. She should be closer to one thousand though.
I'm not crazy about Beyoncé's new album but "XO" and "Pretty Hurts" are highlights. Where's "Partition" though? Great to see "'Til It's Gone" enter. It's the best song on Britney Jean, in my opinion.

I'm still mighty obsessed with Bad Guy. The song must be my alltime favourite rap song now. The ending gets me so deep, the rhymes are so raw, emotional, the whole songs is so epic. My latest obsession is Wicked Ways.. i don't what it is, but the production captivates me.
Monther, Beautiful Pain, Headlights, So Far and Love Game remain my absolute faves. It's still that when I play the album I discover new things. And that's what keeps it so fresh.
"Don't go for second best, baby", is a famous line from Madonna's smash hit "Express Yourself", and as of today, the Material Girl materialised herself as the second female solo artist to cross 1,000+ plays on LastFm (sixth overall artist). It was an exciting journey. She made headlines last year when her MDNA album drew in big numbers. The album is listed as the 10th most played album since the inauguration of LastFM in 2011. The album marked the moment when the 1,000 plays threshold seemed to be a reality she would sooner or later pass. "I'm Addicted" - one of the album's unreleased tracks became the biggest hit on the chart, amassing 107 spins on LastFM alone.
